Ra' van (Book Three of the Items Trilogy) Page 57

by H. Lee Morgan, Jr

“Not in the slightest. Yesterday I sent a covert agent and she made sure that they were not only legitimate, but also that each one of them weren’t under any kind of control. Have fun and enjoy our ever expanding pack.” Crest’s eyes narrowed in a meaningful way, but Alex didn’t understand.

Krum whooped “Alright children I will go hide somewhere. Track me as best you can.” and dropped from Shade’s back and began fleeing towards the trees.

The kids understood the task, but the three large pups bent to chase till their father stepped in their path. “Give him a few minutes to evade you in any way he wishes. Come everyone let’s go over and rest in the trees. There isn’t honor in tracking when you can still see the prey.”

Early the next morning Alex and the others returned to the farm and were supplied with a great feast by the jubilant family. Pablo and the women said he needed to do a few things before selling his property.

On the trip back to the city Lily stopped Crest and everyone also stopped. She then smiled and admitted “Alex, what you did has been the second greatest gift you have ever given me. You’ve reunited me with my parents when I believed that they’d never be found.”

“Second?” he queried. “I thought that gift would be best.”

She smiled knowingly and met Niranene’s gaze. “My friend, it looks as if I’ve lost the wager.”

In a moment Marlin laughed, Niranene squealed in delight and Alex became dumbfounded. Niranene dismounted and rushed over with her oval item out and ready. Crest lowered herself and allowed Lily to stand. The healer placed the item on Lily chest and yelled happily “I WON!!! And I didn’t cheat!” met Lily’s defeated yet joyous expression. “I intend to collect one day.”

Faster than the blink of an eye Lily found herself being twirled in the air by strong arms attached to a laughing voice. He stopped and glued his eyes on hers with a questioning eyebrow.

Lily rubbed her lower abdomen and grinned. “It is true… I’m carrying your greatest gift to me, within me.”

Crest went over and told Shade the news she’s been hiding and Alex finally realized the looks the two of them meant yesterday.

The Pack had grown again and none could have been more hopeful for the future than the father to be.
