I clung a little tighter to Olezka, pressing my forehead against his and silently apologizing.
“YA lyublyu vas.” Olezka leaned forward, pressing his lips lightly against mine.
“I don’t mean to interrupt, but we have my mate yet to find, and there has been a sighting of your brother in the Light Kingdom,” Erebus said. The King looked terrible, or as bad as a High fae King could look. His hair stuck up at odd angles as if he’d run his hand through it about a hundred times.
“What’s Timur doing there?” I asked innocently.
“Not that brother,” Olezka growled.
“But… Roman doesn’t come to this realm.”
“Not him, either,” Olezka grumbled, looking ashamed.
“Oh, you must be referring to your secret twin that you somehow forgot to mention.” Just like that, all of the reasons why things felt so rocky to me came surging to the surface.
“I fear that was my doing, Sixx,” Erebus spoke up.
“Nyet, it was not. My brother went missing some time ago. He and I had an arrangement, but he disappeared before he could fulfill his promise. I was hoping it was something we wouldn’t need to discuss.”
“I think I know where he is, and I think there’s more going on with Dreamscape than we originally thought.” I told them everything I learned while I was being held captive by the Light fae. As I spoke, Erebus’s expression turned downright stormy.
“We need to get Ana back,” I said.
“And I will.”
“But I’m not leaving this world until I know she’s safe,” I declared.
“Bold words for a human,” Erebus chided.
“Look – I’ve seen more than enough of this world. It’s time for us to return home. I only pray Ana will speak to me after I left her behind.”
Seeing that he wasn’t the only one who shouldered guilt over Ana’s disappearance, Erebus calmed down. “She will; don’t worry. I already have plans in place to get her out. If she’d waited for me before she went tearing after you, none of this would have happened in the first place.” Erebus shook his head then said a quick goodbye before leaving Olezka and me alone.
Only after the door clicked shut did I turn back to Olezka with shame brushing over my cheeks. “Olezka, I’m so sorry about... I didn’t want to have any regrets about our first time together. I know it’s stupid,” I rushed to explain.
“Nyet, if it is important to you, it is important to me. I understand this, but you spoke in your sleep.”
My cheeks burned. I didn’t know what he knew – whether I talked in my sleep about Cyril or about the humans I’d seen beaten and abused. I would tell him everything but in my own time. Olezka wrapped his arms around me and held me close.
“What are we going to do about Ana?”
“Nothing, my Sixx. Not yet. It is late, and you need to rest.”
“Tomorrow.” I yawned. “Promise me.”
“Da, pchelka. Tomorrow we will begin the search for Ana.”
