“Yep. I can’t wait. Love you, Trina.”

  “Love you too, Monnie.”

We said our good-byes and I crawled back into my bed. I snuggled up against my husband of two months, and pulled the mosquito net back around us.

As I fell back asleep, all I could think of was the scripture that had proven so true in both me and my best friend’s lives. Everything that Satan had meant for evil, God had turned for good.

Gabe rolled over and pulled me into his arms. I nestled into his chest.

  Better than good.

  The end

  Readers’ Group Questions

  1. Monica says that Trina makes her feel like she’s not a real Christian because she doesn’t want to go to Africa and is not concerned about helping the less fortunate. Does that make her less of a Christian?

  2. When watching the news report about the molestations that occurred in Bishop Walker’s church, Moms says that’s why she doesn’t go to church. How do church scandals, especially those involving pastors and leaders, affect the unsaved?

  3. Trina mentions being afraid that Moms and Tiffany are going to talk them out of the miracle they need with their doubt and unbelief. How do people’s words affect the power of God?

  4. When Bishop Walker makes his threat to tell the press about Kevin’s history, Trina decides that she has to continue working with him to protect Monica at all costs. Was this the right conclusion to come to?

  5. How is it possible that Trina got saved under Bishop Walker’s ministry, and he didn’t even believe in God?

  6. Trina is angry that God has let Bishop Walker get away with being an atheist while pastoring one of the largest churches in the city. She contrasts that with her mother, who is a good person, having cancer, and initially decided that God isn’t fair. Is God fair?

  7. Monica tells Trina she has a pride problem and that she should have asked her and Kevin to borrow money rather than work with Bishop Walker. Gabe later states that she should have called him to ask for the money rather than work with Bishop Walker. What should Trina have done about her financial situation when she returned from Mozambique?

  8. Moms tells Trina that she can’t understand why Trina would believe that God would heal her, but couldn’t believe Him to provide for her so she wouldn’t have to work with Bishop Walker. Is she right to question Trina’s faith?

  9. Ms. Turner states that she’s worried about what will happen to all the members of Bishop Walker’s church when the truth about him comes out. She says that for many of them, Bishop is their God. What does she mean by this, and what is the danger in this?

  10. How did Moms’s relationships with the girls’s father and with other men affect Trina’s and Tiffany’s relationships with men?
