Paine had punched him in the arm and smiled, something Wrath was glad to see him doing more often, and walked off.

After that Wrath could not get to his dwelling fast enough. He was eager to wrap his naked body around his wife’s naked body and... the thought of what they would share grew him hard and he hurried his steps.

He opened the door shocked to see his wife standing on the other side of the fire pit, running a wet cloth down the front of her naked body. Her lovely skin appeared golden through the flame’s flickering light.

“Hurry and shut the door, the cold chills me.”

Wrath quickly did as she asked, seeing that her nipples had puckered even tighter from the cold than they had been. He dropped his cloak on the bench that sat by the door and hastily shed his garments before going to his wife and taking the cloth from her.

  “I need to finish—”

“I will do it for you,” he said and placed a light kiss on her lips.

Verity laughed softly. “It is not washing you will do to me with that wicked glint in your eyes.”

“I promise I will wash you first.”

She rested a tender hand to his cheek. “Since you always keep your promises to me, I will let you wash me.” She laughed again. “Though, I think you punish yourself.”

“Then take mercy on me, wife.” He kissed her palm lightly and she shivered. “And on yourself.”

  “Be quick,” she pleaded.

He was all too willing to comply. He was relieved to see that the rope burn on her neck had faded considerably and would be completely gone eventually. The scar along her jaw had healed better than Bethia had expected, but that was due to Hemera’s care. She had made her sister keep a cloth against the wound with some sort of mixture in it. She refreshed the mixture now and then and each time she did the wound looked much better. The scar had now faded to a thin line, the redness gone. All her bruises had healed and her body was fuller now with more tempting curves and plumper breasts.

He had always thought her beautiful, but now... “You are more beautiful than ever, wife.”

“And more fortunate than I ever thought I would be, to have such a wonderful, caring, and patient man for a husband.”

“Patient?” he asked with a smile that tempted.

“Much too patient,” she whispered and kissed him.

Wrath dropped the cloth, scooped her up in his arms, and carried her to the sleeping pallet, the heat of his body chasing the chill from hers. They kissed, they touched, and they joined together as one and whispered the one word to each other that came naturally to their lips before sleep each and every night.
