“I’ve never taken one.”
“Would you consider taking one now?” he asked.
“I’d have to think about it,” she said slowly. “Yes!”
“I love a woman who thinks fast.” He kissed her.
“You love fast women,” she retorted.
“I love you.”
The next kiss was so hot, Sadie felt she needed dousing with a bucket of cold water. “Okay, I think the wild-sex part of your plan is going to work out just fine,” she panted. “But where do you see us sowing these oats?”
“That nine-month landscape-design course run out of the historic botanical garden in Massachusetts,” he said. “The one you found in the magazine.”
Sadie gaped. “I was thinking Vegas, the south of France, Paris…and you want to run wild in Massachusetts?”
His grin was sheepish. “Turns out it’s who you’re with that matters when it comes to wild. I realized you’re right about me and gardens. I don’t much like the retail side, but I really want to be a landscape designer.”
“So you’re saying I was right and you were wrong,” she crowed.
He muttered something that might have been “Know-it-all.”
“But you want to coach football,” Sadie said. “You could still do that.”
“I was having trouble letting go of the football career I supposedly sacrificed,” he said. “Who knows, maybe I would have made it to the NFL. But life didn’t turn out that way, so there’s no point trying to make it happen.”
“A botanical garden,” she mused. “That might be just the inspiration I need to start my antioxidant research. And if it doesn’t work out…you don’t mind if I commit professional suicide, do you?”
“I’ll be with you all the way, cupcake.”
His kiss was sweet and long and giving and taking.
“I may have lost track,” he said, “but by my reckoning you haven’t told me you love me yet.”
“I told you back in Hot Springs. I’m way ahead of you, buster.”
“True.” He rubbed his chin. “I was hoping to hear it again, at least a million times.”
“I love you, Trey,” she said. “I always will.”
He grinned. “How embarrassing is it that I was hung up on getting away to run wild, and it turns out the hottest woman I know is the geek next door.”
“Pretty embarrassing,” Sadie said smugly, and turned her mouth up to his.
