“He's told me so many times that no matter how it looks, he's always here with me. Emma tried to get me to believe him and she believes most guys to be assholes. So she's got more faith then I do when it comes to him. I hope this time, it's not misplaced.”
“This time?” I ask gently, not wanting to push her but wondering just how many times she's called to him in the past.
“I tried to do this once before. A couple of days ago. I was having a hard time sleeping and before he’d been able to block out the voices for me and help me do that. I figured I'd give him one more try. Turns out, it was a waste of time because he didn't show.”
I’m not entirely sure what to say. Gabriel failing in his care of her makes me happy because it means he left her wide open, but at the same time, it’s evident that in not showing up when she called, it hurt her and I don’t like anything that causes her pain.
“I'm not sure what to say, except, things aren’t always the way they first appear. There might be a pretty big reason why he didn't show the last time. I just hope that for your sake, this time he does.”
“Why do you hope for my sake?”
“Because it's obvious that despite the ways he's let you down, you care for him a lot. I don't want those feelings to be wasted. You deserve better than to be deceived and lied to. I'm only sorry I didn't realize that before doing the same thing myself.”
“You told me the truth Ryan, that's all that matters. Gabriel, despite having been with me every single night for the past month still hasn't done that. You're nothing like him, so please don't think you are.”
