“Sabella,” he said, “you know I give you a lot of leeway. You run a good class, the work is tough, the kids have to pay attention to pass, and you’re a decent professor. But falling asleep in class? Dating a student?” The dean just looked at her for a moment. “What are you doing?”
“What do you mean, George?” Sabella said, her brows knitting together. “Falling asleep, I know. It was stupid, but I stayed up late grading and then I didn’t have time to grab a coffee. I’ll make sure it never happens again. But…dating a student?”
How had he found out? And how much did he know? Sabella wouldn’t give anything away until she had more information.
“You’re putting us in a weird position. If the student you’re dating decides to make waves, you could lose your job,” George told her bluntly. “I can’t protect you if you violate the rules, and while I could slap your hand on the wrist now, or suspend you, I don’t think that would do any good, would it?”
“No, probably not. Who told you I was dating a student?”
“Well, are you?” he asked, his brows raised.
Sabella shrugged, refusing to commit to an answer.
“I need you to consider if working here long-term is worth this relationship you’re getting yourself into, and if your reputation being put on the line is worth any blow up that might happen.”
“Would you like me to quit?” Sabella asked him. She wasn’t sure what he wanted from her.
“No, I don’t want you to quit. Ideally, you’d stop dating the student, transfer the person out of your class, and we’d move on.” George rubbed his chin and stared at her for a moment before he sighed. “You won’t do any of that, will you?”
“No. She’s in need of this class to graduate. You could fire me and hire a new professor, but I bet you couldn’t find someone as perfect as me for this job. It’s a tedious, boring class. I do my best to make it interesting for my students, but it’s boring. It’s a lot of memorization and lab work, and it really only speaks to those who truly love science. Boring science, not the fun science,” Sabella reminded him. She personally wasn’t into this kind of science herself exactly, but it paid the bills and she was great at teaching it. She put in the time and mustered up the enthusiasm to make it interesting.
“The student is a woman?” George choked out.
Sabella’s brows shot up at the strangled sound he made when he asked that. “Yes. I’m dating a woman, is that also not allowed? Should I be slapped on the wrist for that one, too?”
“No, but you really need to be careful.” He sighed. “Go on, get out of here, just know that if this blows up in your face, I won’t have your back on this issue. There’s a lot of things I’d support you on, but not dating a student.”
“Don’t worry, I can watch my own back,” Sabella said, and smirked. She had resources if she needed them. Flouncing out of George’s office, she went to the lab to work with Lilly.
***
Lilly was already in the lab waiting for her. She was scratching notes down out of a book and looking at some of the beakers in confusion.
“I wouldn’t mix those two if I were you,” Sabella said. She walked over and pushed the red liquid away from the green liquid carefully. “You want to use the pink liquid there. Read the labels. Red is bad—if you mix this red and green together, you’ll make a smoke bomb so bad you’ll chase us both out of here, and that’s if it doesn’t explode while you’re at it.”
“Okay then,” Lilly said. She took the red jar back to the chemical cabinet and searched for the pink liquid she needed. Finding it, she checked the label three times to make sure it was the right one and brought it back to the table, under Sabella’s watchful eyes.
She could feel Sabella watching her. Every now and then she’d glance over at Sabella, who’d give her an encouraging smile. It made Lilly feel powerful, and wanted, and loved.
“Careful now, when you heat this part and add this chemical, you need to do it a couple drops at a time, gently. Here, like this.” Sabella walked up behind Lilly, and Lilly felt Sabella’s heat pressing against her back. Sabella reached around and put her hand over Lilly’s, helping her tip the glass over the others, putting a few drops into the beaker.
Lilly could feel Sabella’s breasts against her back. They were pressing into her shoulder blades and she had to close her eyes and try to focus on what Sabella was teaching her. She felt herself grow wet. Eventually she sighed and put everything down on the table. Turning to look at Sabella, she pressed her mouth to Sabella’s.
“Lilly, we are on school property,” Sabella said between kisses. “I am always up for you, you know that, but I’m already on thin ice with the dean. He found out that I’m dating a student.”
“How did he find that out?” Lilly said, completely shocked. “I haven’t told anyone, except sort of my dad.”
“You told your dad about us?” Sabella’s eyes got wide and then she let out a half chuckle. “I’m guessing that conversation didn’t go as well as you’d probably hoped.”
“No, it didn’t, and speaking of my dad, he’s insisting that you come over for dinner in a couple nights. I was going to try to soften you up with a couple orgasms before asking but…” Lilly laughed and shrugged. She wanted Sabella to say yes, because she wanted the two most important people in her life to get along. She loved them both, and this was important to her. “The orgasms are optional.”
“Are you trying to seduce me, Lilly?” Sabella said, her mouth quirking up in a smile as she traced her fingers gently against Lilly’s cheek bone. “Promising me pleasure right after telling me I need to go have dinner with your father?”
“Well, if I can convince my father that the two of us are serious, he’ll stop giving me a hard time about dating you.” Lilly shrugged. “Finding out I was dating a woman was one thing, but finding out that woman was you…well that was another matter entirely. He was not happy. I told him you’re a good professor, and that you’ve grown up to be a sexy, intelligent woman.”
“You feel that way about me huh?” Sabella looked surprised.
“You think I’d be taking you home to my dad if I wasn’t serious about you?” Lilly was a little surprised that Sabella didn’t realize how she felt. “I more than just like you, and you trusted me with your secrets. The kind of secrets that could destroy lives, your life, or others if people knew the truth. I assumed that you realized how much I wanted you, wanted to be involved, wanted to know you. I don’t want any secrets; I want to know everything about you. The good, the bad, the ugly, the beautiful. I want to be inside your heart, your soul, and I want every inch of you revealed to me.” Lilly punctuated her words while she touched Sabella. Stroking down Sabella’s shoulders, she massaged her breasts and nipples through Sabella’s clothes.
Sabella didn’t stop her. Instead she sat there, her breath coming in ragged little gasps as Lilly tweaked her nipples with her fingers. Lilly backed Sabella up against the wall, and reached out to lock the lab door and pull the shade over the glass so no one could look in.
“I want you, Sabella. I want everything. I want you to belong to me,” Lilly told her as she lowered her hands and worked on the button and zipper of Sabella’s pencil skirt. Pulling it down, she then worked on rolling the pantyhose Sabella wore down her legs. Sabella’s clothes fell to the floor in a heap, and Lilly cupped Sabella’s crotch with her hand. The red lace panties felt rough against her fingers and she stroked the lips that were so, so warm through the fabric.
“You are so naughty, Lilly.” Sabella hissed and dug her nails into the wall as she braced herself. She kicked her shoes off, and then kicked her skirt and what was left of her balled up hosiery off to the side. Sabella unbuttoned her blouse and exposed herself to Lilly. Her bra clasped in the front, so she unhooked it and stood there, half naked, with her breasts hanging out.
“Fine piece of pussy,” Lilly muttered and grinned at her pun. Leaning forward, she kissed Sabella. Pushing her hard against the wall, she reached
up and jammed her fingers under the panties until she found the growing wetness between Sabella’s thighs. Stroking her with her fingers until Sabella’s hips were thrusting against her hand and her head was falling to the side and she was letting out little moans, Lilly was content. She liked watching Sabella get all excited, hot and wet for her.
Sabella reached up and played with her breasts while Lilly touched her. She tweaked her nipples and cupped them, squeezing them with her hands and moaning. Lilly ducked her head down and took a perky nipple into her mouth, rolling her tongue around the tip. Nibbling and sucking, she worked the flesh into a tight bud before switching to the other breast and repeating the process.
Lilly kissed Sabella’s stomach and slowly worked her way lower, her tongue and lips pressing against the Sabella’s flesh. Using her hands, she hooked the fabric over her thumbs and yanked the red lace to her ankles and kneeled down between her legs. She moved her hand back between Sabella’s legs and insert two fingers roughly between the wet lips. When Sabella moaned loudly and spread her legs wider to give Lilly easier access, Lilly buried her face against her mound until her lips and tongue found the small, engorged nub that would send Sabella into an epic climax.
Rubbing her tongue back and forth in between sucking the nub until it was swollen and further engorged with her excitement, Lilly kept twisting her fingers inside of Sabella. Lilly could feel the muscles squeezing her hand as she’d push them inside, then pull them back out.
“Oh god yes, just like that Lilly, just a little more, please,” Sabella begged. She brought her hands down to Lilly’s head and buried her fingers in her hair, gripping handfuls of hair that twisted around her fingers. She used the leverage to help control Lilly’s tongue to touch just the right spot. Bringing one leg up, she wrapped it over the back of Lilly’s neck and pinned her against her crotch.
Lilly smiled against her flesh, enjoying watching her squirm and beg for orgasms. Lilly pushed her tongue hard against the little nub until Sabella let out a loud scream, and her knees sagged and she almost sunk to the floor. Lilly smiled in conquest. She’d done what she’d set out to do—bring Sabella to her knees.
“You are a naughty little minx, aren’t you?” Sabella asked with a ragged breath.
“Well, I wanted to make sure you knew what kind of reward would be waiting for you after dinner the other night with my dad. The kind that’s worth earning. The kind that involves toys. I bought something for you, but you’ll have to wait to see what it is,” Lilly promised, winking.
Sabella groaned. “Lilly, that’s not fair, you can’t tease me like that.”
“Sure I can, I just did.” Lilly laughed and handed Sabella her clothes, and helped her get dressed. When Sabella reached for Lilly to return the favor, Lilly shook her head.
“Nope. You can’t touch me until after the dinner date with my dad. But just know exactly how wet and hot that made me to do that to you. I’m going to go home tonight and touch myself while I imagine licking your perfect little pussy in the lab room,” Lilly whispered to her.
Both of them jumped when a loud bang came from the lab door and the knob rattled.
“Looks like our time in here is up.” Sabella said and straightened out her skirt once more. “Dinner, huh? I’ll be there.”
“That’s what I figured,” Lilly said and walked over to unlock the door. The janitor standing there gave her and Sabella a funny look as they left the lab. Neither of them said anything, but both of them cracked up as they walked down the hallway.
***
Sabella sat in Lilly’s car. Her nerves were tight and she was tense. If she was in her cat form, her tail would be puffy, her ears would be down, and she’d probably have every inch of her fur standing up on edge. For the moment, she was grateful that she was able to control her shift. Part of her instincts had her wanting to shift and run away and hide.
She hadn’t seen Lilly’s father in years. The young teenager she’d been had been a thief and a trouble maker, and she’d fought the authority when they’d wanted to put her in tactical situations. She hadn’t been cut out to be a spy for the government. She’d just wanted to be a girl, grow up into a woman, and be the kind of woman who could be happy and have a life that belonged to herself.
Her lack of cooperation had probably contributed to the defunding of the project, and had probably caused Lilly’s dad to lose his job. He hadn’t seemed to suffer much, though. Lilly had been raised right, and she’d gotten into a good college.
Sabella thought it had been fate. She was destined to have her life, her future, and everything intertwined with this family. She’d known it when she was younger, but she’d never realized that it was because Lilly, the daughter, would be her mate. Sabella looked over at Lilly, who was driving her dad’s car. She seemed fairly relaxed, and the only tell that gave away her nerves was her knuckles. They were white from gripping the steering wheel so hard.
“You ready for this, sweetie?” Sabella reached over and put a comforting hand on Lilly’s leg.
Lilly nodded and gave Sabella a small smile. “It’s not that I’m not ready, I just know my dad and I don’t always see eye to eye, and I love you, Sabella. I won’t let him come between us.”
“You love me?” Sabella whispered, shocked. She knew their relationship was growing and was a lot more than just sex, but hearing Lilly say those three little words had her heart slamming in her chest.
“You haven’t figured that out by now?” Lilly laughed softly. “You’re quite the character. You’ve been through so much, and yet, you’ve retained your spunk and personality, and you’re probably the only real shifter in the world and I get the pleasure of being with you. Even if you sometimes turn into a cat to avoid an argument.”
“Yeah well…” Sabella muttered and chuckled. “I owe your dad a lot, actually. He kept me safe. They probably would have dissected me when they realized I wasn’t the super soldier spy they were hoping for.”
“My father said he’s not allowed to talk about it much. That he has to be careful what he says about his time spent with you.” Lilly gave Sabella a questioning look. “Did you have to sign papers stating you couldn’t talk about it, too?”
“I was supposed to. I never signed them.” Sabella grinned. “I’m not very good at doing what I’m told.”
“I’ve noticed,” Lilly said with a laugh.
Sabella laughed, too. She loved that she always managed to make Lilly smile, and Lilly could make her laugh, too.
Lilly pulled into the driveway of a modest, two-story home. Sabella recognized it instantly—it was the same house she’d sneaked into as a cat in order to steal Lilly’s necklace.
“You know, I think we need to get you your own car soon,” Sabella said. “If your dad gets mad, he could tell you that you can’t drive his car anymore.”
“Okay,” Lilly said nodding.
“One other thing. I want you to move in with me, which is why you should have your own car instead of your dad’s.” Instead of waiting for Lilly’s answer, Sabella got out of the car and shut the door. Lilly just sat there blinking at Sabella through the windshield for a moment before getting out of the car.
“Are you serious?” Lilly whispered as she walked up to the front door.
Sabella smiled. “Very serious.”
Lilly opened the door for them, and gestured Sabella inside. The scent of pot roast made Sabella’s mouth water instantly.
“Hi Lilly, Sabella,” Lilly’s father said. He had an apron on and an oven mitt on one hand. “Welcome to my home.”
“Glad to be here, John. Thank you for inviting me,” Sabella said. She smiled fondly as she remembered him from when she was a girl, although her smile faded when she saw the look on his face. He definitely did not look happy that she was here. “It’s, uh, it’s been a long time. Since we saw each other last.”
“Lilly,” John said, “can you go upstairs for a minute and find my cell phone? I think I left it on my nightstand.”

; Lilly sent a questioning look to Sabella, who smiled back at her. “I’ll be fine,” Sabella mouthed.
As soon as Lilly left the room, John jerked his head toward the kitchen and gave Sabella a stern look, one that said get in here, now.
Sabella walked in front of him, her heart pounding. She wouldn’t do anything bad to John because it would make Lilly sad, but the urge to bite him for being so pushy with her definitely sat in her gut.
“How dare you date my daughter? What is wrong with you?” John asked in a hushed, angry tone.
“Because your daughter is an adult who can make her own decisions, and I happen to love her. And believe it or not, she happens to love me. You used to care about me, John. What happened to you?” Sabella knew he hadn’t been happy about this entirely, but she didn’t expect him to be quite so openly hostile toward her.
“She’s my baby girl, and you…you’re not even human.” He glared at her. “You’re not a parent, so you wouldn’t understand.”
“I wouldn’t understand what?” Sabella asked.
“A parent’s urge to protect his daughter,” he retorted. “She can’t get involved with you, don’t you see?”
Sabella shook her head. This was going really terribly. She hoped Lilly stayed upstairs for a few minutes longer, searching for the phone she was sure wasn’t up there.
John continued, “If the government ever decides to reactivate their programs, you belong to them. You are their property, and you’re still alive because I was able to convince them not to terminate you. What happens if they decide you’re a liability, even all these years later? What do you think that would do to Lilly if she really does love you, and something bad happened to you? Or worse, what if she’s caught in the crossfire? Could you be okay with her being harmed because of you?”
Sabella’s heart revolted against the very idea of Lilly coming to harm, whether it was because of Sabella’s past or something else entirely. But love came first—it had to come before fear. If nothing else, being with Lilly had taught her that.
