Thanks
This is the spot in the book where I get to thank all the people that helped me get to the finish line. It was a task that petrified me because I knew with cold certainty that I would leave one of them out. So, rather than risk a hurtful omission, I’ve decided to offend everyone equally and leave all of them out. Yes, I am a coward.
There is one individual though that absolutely has to be acknowledged or I couldn’t live with myself; Gary Imlach, the editor of this book and my mentor for the painful 2.5 years it took to finish. Incapable of doing anything ‘a bit’, Gary put his heart and soul into the project, holding me to account for fudging facts (it was not uncommon to get an annotated draft back with the words ‘you lying bastard’ in the margins), helping me discover a unified writing style and steering me away from rambling jokes that only I thought were funny. It wasn’t an easy working relationship but I’ve never been in a worthwhile partnership that was. I’m deeply grateful for his guidance. Ta La.
