Without making eye contact, he left the same way he came, implying there were four prisoners. Were the others witches? And were any of the prisoners at the other end dragons?

She glanced down at her food. The porridge looked bland, but the bowl of vegetables was appealing. The problem was she didn’t trust they wouldn’t drug her again. For the time being, she’d go hungry.

Dropping onto her cot once more, she closed her eyes for a moment and allowed her mind to wander to Finn McKinnon—her safe haven each night. Even though she’d only connected with him in her dreams, he’d given her great solace. Finn, a werewolf, was from the Earth realm who she’d been dream-walking with for a while. He was her mate!

Over the last few weeks, their minds had grown into one, communicating and feeling so intensely, she almost felt as if they were in the same room. When she dream-walked with him, they’d been intimate too. For her, love had bloomed. But she’d been careful not to scare him. Telling him they were mates—or that she was a dragon—might have caused him to shut her out. And she couldn’t chance that.

As much as she wanted to stay awake to figure out some kind of escape plan, her best hope might be to have Finn help her—a man who’d didn’t know Tarradon existed. Hell, he’d questioned her many times whether she was real. Promising him that someday they’d meet didn’t seem to be enough for him. Well, the time might be closer than he realized. To contact him, however, she needed to dream. That meant she had to fall asleep, and the damn lumpy cot wasn’t going to make that chore easy.

Finn tossed and turned. Normally when Kaleena came to him in his dreams, her brightness soothed his soul and excited his wolf. Not tonight though. Everything was different—darker, somber, and even frightening. While her face was always blurry and her long, red hair was swept behind her back, her body was in shadows this time.

“Finn?” Kaleena called as if she were very far away.

“What’s wrong?” He’d become accustomed to her coy and flirtatious tone. She often shared some things about herself, while holding back at the same time, but this time was different.

“I need your help,” she pleaded.

From the way her voice cracked, she wasn’t used to asking for aid. In his dream world, Finn was invincible and capable of doing anything. “What can I do?”

“I’m being held prisoner. I need you to come to Tarradon.”

He wondered why his imaginary woman had chosen this scenario to play out with him. “Why of course. I’ll ride in on a white steed and save you.”

“Finn, this is no joking matter. I’m real. You have to believe me. I need you.”

Finn rolled over, his mind in a confused dream state. At times he wanted to believe that the woman in his head was alive, and that they’d even met at one time, but how could she be flesh and blood? Kaleena only appeared when he slept.

Because she sounded so desperate, he agreed to play along. “Okay, I believe you. You said you live in Tarradon? Where is that exactly? And how can I reach you?”

“Tarradon is a different realm from Earth. My best guess is that I’m still in Edendale, which is a town in the province of Avonbelle. Getting here will be tricky. You have to find a portal in order to come.”

“A different realm? I don’t even know how portals work.”

“Someone must know. Ask a white lighter.”

“A white lighter?” He could guess what she meant by the meaning, but he wanted to be sure.

  “You call them witches.”

The fact she used a name he wasn’t familiar with gave credence to the fact she was real. “I’ll try.”

“If you don’t help me, I might die.”

Not only do I love to read, write, and dream, I’m an extrovert. I enjoy being around people and am always trying to understand what makes them tick. Not only must my books have a happily ever after, I need characters I can relate to. My men are wonderful, dynamic, smart, strong, and the best lovers in the world (of course).

I believe I am the luckiest woman. I do what I love and I have a wonderful, supportive husband, who happens to be hot!

  Fun facts about me
