Love in Disguise Page 21

by Lyssa Cole

I need to get it together and focus on this job. It took some time getting here but I finally made it. I’ve got to keep my head on straight and stay focused.

We stop in front of my office, the tour over. The attraction pulses through me, hot and fiery. I pause, my eyes lingering on her. I look away quickly and remind myself. I’ve got 99 problems, but a woman isn’t one.

I smirk. My eyes flash and a look of annoyance crosses Emma’s face. Shit, rein in the asshole, Knox. I don’t want her to know the effect she’s having on me. That’s when the trouble begins.

“Thanks for the tour,” I say, flicking my gaze behind her then back to her gorgeous face. “I guess I’ll be seeing you around the office, then?”

Emma nods. My eyes dart down to her cleavage, a nice small dip between her tits. Great tits. I want to… never mind, Knox.

“If you ever need any help with your patients, let me know,” I blurt out.

Emma crosses her arms, her lips pressing into a thin line. “Help with my patients? Why would I need help with my patients? I’m doing fine, thank you.” Her eyes narrow into slits, piercing me. I think my balls shriveled up into my body. Damn.

I back up, my hands held up in protection. “I’m only saying. You never know.” I shrug and walk away.

I shut the door to my new office, my heart picking up speed. I pace back and forth, my fists clenching, my breaths coming out in pants. Fuck, too much dickhead, Knox. Way to go.

There’s no control over it around women. My mind takes over and next thing I know; I’m spewing shit meaner than the old witch neighbor we grew up next to as kids.

Not all women are bad. But I’m still sticking to my motto, ‘Have fun. Get in and get out…literally.’

My therapist brain kicks in on overdrive, analyzing the ten minutes together and coming up empty. I decide I am going to check out the break room and see if they have any decent coffee. I could use the caffeine kick.

I walk out of my office, hoping I see Emma, and praying I don’t. I don’t want to make a worse impression on her. But I’m worried I will rip her clothes off her body and bang her, against any hard surface.
