In The Spur of Heath (The Spur Series Book 1) Page 7

by Sydney Ledger

“Ha! Ha! You’re hilarious.” I got up and he watched me with a malicious grin. “See you in class later.” He said inertly as he buried his head back into his book.

Well that went well, I thought to myself as I strode up to Heath. Speaking of Heath, he had the most uneasy look on his face, his arms folded. “What’s wrong with you?” I asked as I sat down.

“I could ask you the same, are you bipolar? One minute you’re so distracted and ‘sick’, then you come back smiling after talking to Mr. Cavanaugh?” What the fuck? Is he for real? Was it that obvious, was our relationship that apparent? I think I’m gonna be sick. I could hear Heath rambling and Lawless by Zola Jesus playing in the background.

  “Reese?”

  “Huh?”

“There you go again. What’s wrong with you? Are you worried about your acting?” Oh, thank God he thought it was about the indie film.

“I was, but I’m good now. Everything’s cleared up.” I glanced back at Jake and then back to Heath.

“Number 37.” The girl behind the counter announced.

“That’s us.” Heath looked down at the receipt. He got up. I could hear Jake’s chair screech as he got up too. Everything just slowed down in that moment, I was just sitting there motionless. The music pounding loudly in my ears, feeling my heart racing in my chest.

Jake strode past us, nodded at Heath just as Heath was about to turn toward the counter. Heath nodded back and went about his way. I gazed at Jake as he continued up to the entrance. The navy blue jacket of his suit flailing behind him. He pushed the glass door open, book in hand and stepped out. He slicked back his hair and then he was gone – out of sight.

Phew! I could breathe again. Seeing both of them interact was suffocating to me; the one I love and the one I’m with. Too intense. When Jake left, everything felt normal again. How was I going to function when Heath and I have Jake’s class together? I needed to get over this.

I could see Heath staring directly at me like if he was trying to solve a puzzle. I didn’t even notice when he came back. “Sorry.” I flushed.

“Just eat, Reesie.” He said sombrely.

After breakfast, we had Mr. Sampson’s class, totally distracted by the anxiety building inside me because we had Jake’s class later that evening, Heath was beginning to get really bothered.

When we were on our way to Jake’s class, Heath stopped me. “Reese, this is really getting annoying now, what is wrong? You say you’re fine about the indie, but now you’re still acting strange. You look really nervous. Are you on drugs?”

“Drugs, Heath, really?” I deadpanned. He shrugged his shoulders and fixed the strap of his messenger bag, anticipating an answer.

“I think I know what it is now, it’s that guy you were with, isn’t it? You’ve been awfully quiet about that too. I don’t know since when you’ve been mum about anything.”

“Look Heath, now’s not a good time to discuss it. Yes it’s a guy, okay, you happy now? Let’s just get to Mr. Cavanaugh’s class.” I walked off and he followed closely behind.

We entered Jake’s classroom. About twenty neatly placed arm desks spread across the room. Heath and I made our way to our desks – to the back of the classroom. Jake was sitting behind his desk, wearing his glasses as he graded our papers, his laptop and briefcase lying beside him. A white board took up the length of the wall behind him with his named spelt across it, and to his left was a door to a room that had all his cameras and necessary equipment.

We had so much to do at Dillcaster Academy, round-the-clock work; screenplay writing, film & theatre acting, camera operations, editing, directing and more. Jake was our lecturer for the screenplay writing, camera operations, directing and acting, Mr. Sampson was the lecturer for the editing, animations, graphics and special effects. The other lecturers had more of the same.

Everyone else filtered through the door as Jake was getting up to address us. “Good day class.” He fixed his cufflink – a habit I’ve loved to watch him do. “So, how was the weekend?” He was always so vibrant in the classroom. He adjusted the noose of his tie, slicked back his hair and flashed his pearly whites. He was smooth as fuck! “So, I just finished with your papers – finally! Some of you were really good, while some of you – well let’s just say you need to strengthen certain areas.”

As he talked and paced the room, I felt my heart pounding hard against my chest. And suddenly, I wanted him in the most erotic way. Whoa! No I cannot be getting horny right now. I began to feel down there pulse, the thought of him on my body alone made my pores raise. I was so turned on right now. What’s wrong with me?

“Okay, so when you hear your name, come get your paper.” He picked up a few of the papers and began calling names. One by one, everyone went up to collect their papers. “Watson. Valdez. Verona. Ullman. Tate. Thompson. Saunders. Singh!”

I lost my breath when I heard him say my name. I walked up to him and he handed me my script, secretly brushing his hand against mine which sent that tingling feeling shooting down my spine. “Good job, Trini.” He licked his lips and smirked. “Can I see you after class, please?”

“Definitely.” I croaked. I returned to my seat and looked at his notes. Thank God our relationship didn’t interfere with his grading. He eventually called Andrews and Heath collected his paper. “What’d you get?” I asked.

  “Ninety-two. You?”

  “Ninety-four.” I responded.

  “That’s great, you deserve it.”

After class, I remained seated behind my desk. Heath got up and asked me if I was coming. “No, Mr. Cavanaugh wants to see me.”

“Okay, I’ll wait for you in Tang.” He left the classroom, along with everyone else.

Jake was seated behind his desk and I strolled up to him. “Jake?” He looked up at me and took off his glasses.

“Reese.” He got up, took a quick glance at the door and then back at me, grabbed my ass, pulling me into him, and kissed me hard. Whoa! When he pulled away I froze. Is he nuts? “Reese?”

  “Jake, what are you doing?”

“I couldn’t help it. Seeing you sitting there. I wanted you so bad.”

“Safe to say I wanted you, too.”

He bit on his bottom lip. I could see a wicked glint in his eyes – just pure mischief. He ran quickly to the door and locked it. What the fuck is he doing?

“Jake?” I asked anxiously. “What are you doing?”

“What does it look like?” He asked while yanking off his tie, walking briskly up to me. He pulled his shirt out of his pants and pushed my hair to the side of my face. “Ever fucked in a classroom before?” He asked with a brooding stare. I had to pick my mouth off the floor because I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. I shook my head hesitantly and he smirked, “Me neither.” And with that he raided my mouth, picked me up, my legs around his waist and placed me on top of his desk. Sucking at my neck and running his hand through my wavy hair, I began unbuttoning his shirt.

Subtle moans and sloppy kisses later we were both naked; his pants and boxers around his ankles. He skimmed his fingers over my breasts and down, between my legs, slipping a finger inside. His sweltering eyes affixed to mine. “You ready?” He asked coquettishly and I nodded pleadingly. I wanted him inside me so bad. All that tension that built up inside me during class, I couldn’t wait for the relief of his body in mine.

He eased himself inside me and when he was fully in we both sighed. Relief! He started to move in and out slowly, positioning himself a few times. My hands travelled down his back and gripped on his firm ass as he fucked me harder. I buried my head in his neck in attempt to muffle my moans. I was losing my mind. This was so good, yet so wrong. I think the fact that we were in a classroom made it even more intense, we could get caught at any moment – our adrenaline was pumping.

He then threw me back flat onto the table, propping one of my legs on his shoulder and began pounding himself even more into me; thrusting even deeper as if trying to feel the length of
me. Ugh! I could feel him in my stomach, sticking me hard. This pain was so good. “You’re so fucking warm!” He threw his head back. “God, I fucking love your pussy.” He said through gritted teeth as he moved even faster.

He put his finger on my sweet spot and began rubbing as he continued his torturous thrusting; in and out of me. Whoa! That feeling was sensational. I clenched my toes and gripped on the edge of the desk as the tingling feeling began to travel between my legs and build up. It got stronger and stronger, my clitoris throbbing and wanting more. I gyrated my hips on his member as he stimulated me.

Scrunching my toes even harder now, I released and my walls gripped hard onto him as my roused clit pulsed and muscles relaxed. He slammed into me one last time and I could feel him release.

Climaxing together, our breaths were heavy. Dripping in sweat. He placed his head on top of my stomach and hugged me. That euphoric feeling washed over my body and I just lay there smiling, running my hands through his damp hair.

“That’s it, Reese. I’m addicted to you.” He smiled against my stomach and then raised his head up at me. Those crystal blues gazing so innocently.

“I think I’m addicted to you, too.” I blushed.

  “That’s it then, we’re addicts.”

“Mr. Cavanaugh?” I heard that familiar Aussie voice call out loudly while knocking on the door.

“Shit, it’s Heath.” I whispered in a panic. I jumped off the desk, grabbed my clothes and ran into the room with all the equipment. It was dark, I didn’t even bother to find the light switch. My heart felt like it was about to jump out my chest.

Jake pulled up his boxers and pants – buttoning as fast as he could – pulled on his shirt and fixed his tie.

He opened the door. Heath stood there with his usual apprehensive look. He pursed his lips as everything registered in his mind. Jake’s tussled hair, his shirt halfway out his pants and his strung out tie. Even the beads of sweat on his forehead were too obvious. “Andrews, what’s up?” Jake asked as nonchalantly as possible.

“Just looking for Reese, is she here?” Heath asked trying to look past Jake.

“Uh no,” Jake said trying to meet Heath’s gaze, “Ms. Singh left. Said she had to meet you.”

“Funny, she never showed. And she’s not answering her phone either.”

“Well, I haven’t seen her, she left about twenty minutes ago. Sorry. I was in the middle of rehearsals.”

“Okay. Thanks.” Heath said unconvinced. “I could have sworn I heard her, but I’ll go see if she showed up at Tang. Later.” He replied sarcastically and then left. Jake closed the door and sighed, sliding his back down the length of the door into a crouched position on the floor.

When I heard Heath leave, I crept outside, straightening out my clothes and walked up to Jake. He looked petrified. “What’s wrong?” I whispered. “You think he bought it?”

Jake licked his lips and widened his eyes, “Fuck!”

“What?” He pointed his chin behind me and I turned – both my bag and laptop were there in plain sight.

“Oh God, oh God. No.” I bent my head in utter humiliation. “What the hell am I gonna do?”

“You have to tell him.” Jake palmed his face. “I mean, how long were you gonna keep it a secret from him anyway, he’s your best friend. You guys live together.”

“I thought you wanted to keep it quiet?”

“From the school, yeah. I’d lose my fucking credibility and possibly my job if they found out. Dean Greyman isn’t too fond of those things, it’s against the code of conduct. But I wouldn’t expect your close friends to not know. That’s just unrealistic. You’re an adult and shouldn’t have to keep lying to Andrews.”

I smiled because what he said let me know he was definitely serious about our relationship. He was okay with me telling my friends about us. He wasn’t just my closet fuck, he was my boyfriend. God, I don’t know why that turned me on. I pecked him on the lips and he got up off the floor, straightened up himself and slipped on his jacket.

“I’ll talk to Heath.” I whispered.

I grabbed my things and ran outside, heading into Tang.

I saw Heath with his head bent, sitting at our usual table. I paced up to him and the closer I got, the faster my heart pounded. I was scared to tell him. Firstly, because I was in love with him and wanted him, and secondly, because I was fucking our teacher. It was just too awkward.

“Heath.” I whispered. He raised his head, his eyes intense. I could tell he knows, he wanted me to know that he knows the way he was staring. “Hey.” I mouthed.

“Reese?” He raised a questionable brow at me and I sat down. “Where’ve you been?” I opened my mouth, paused, then closed it back, I couldn’t do it! It was too hard. My face spoke a thousand words though. A silent apology, the truth – everything! “Mr. Cavanaugh?”

“Told you it wasn’t drugs.” I managed to say.

“I can’t fucking believe you.” He whispered sternly. “Fucking in a classroom? And with him, no less. Have you lost your bloody mind?” I never saw him look this angry, not even with Caroline. But he was out of line!

“Excuse me?” I asked suddenly infuriated. How dare he? Wasn’t I allowed my happiness? He can’t believe me? Does he own me?

  “You heard me, Reese.”

“I will not discuss this with you here, Heath. You wanna talk? Let’s go!” I shot out of my seat and stormed outside, towards the car. He powerwalked behind me, grabbed onto my arm and pulled me towards him. “What?”

At that moment, I saw Jake jogging up to his car. Heath watched him with so much hatred and rage. He then turned back to me. “Are you insane, him? You’re probably college girl number fifty-seven.”

“Don’t speak on things you don’t know. You don’t know a damn thing about him.”

  “Oh and you do?”

“I know a whole hell of a lot more than you! What the hell does any of this have to do with you?”

“You are my best friend, Reesie. You have a good heart. I don’t wanna see you get hurt.”

I licked my lips and pursed them. He stepped closer. “Listen, Jake and I…”

  “Jake? Wow.” He interrupted.

“He and I have been friends for a while, I used to talk to him when he was with his ex, and he’s a good guy. I am not college girl number fifty seven or fifty eight, not even two. I am one and I am happy, you understand?”

He stood there mirthlessly, shaking his head. He then looked into my eyes and sighed, looking calm, apologetic even, “Pieces…”

  “I like him.” I whispered.

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me. It’s not my place. I’m truly sorry. Forgive me?”

“I do, Heath.” He hugged me and we got into the car and made our way back home.

“How long?” He asked breaking the deafening silence. “You and him?”

“Only three days. It happened on Saturday.”

“Wow. And you’re that defensive of him already?”

“Reminds you of someone?” I asked in the bitchiest sarcastic tone ever. He huffed.

“You got me there, Reese. Do you, I won’t judge. One thing though?” I turned to him. “The fuck he got an Aston Martin?” I couldn’t hold back my laugh.

“He is actually really fucking rich.”

  “Serious mate? How rich?”

“Co-owns Cave Ink.” His mouth dropped.

“Bullshit! You’re fucking with me, right?”

  “Nope.”

“What in the bloody hell? And he drives a Prius. Scratch that! Why is he even teaching and shooting indie films? He is a special kind of cunt, isn’t he?”

“Oh gosh, no. He loves teaching, indie films are a hobby of his and a way for us to get extra cred.”

“Major bullshit! That sounds too good to be true, how certain are you of this?”

“I’ve been to his house, been in his car, he had his driver pick me up in his Escalade and introduced me to the owner of Ruse` and Kr
aze Nightclub on Saturday. He is absolutely legit.”

“Ruse` and Kraze? That’s in Pasadena? Where we always wanted to go?” He glanced at me and back at the road.

  “Yep.”

  “What the fuck?”

“I know right, I couldn’t believe it at first. In fact, I still can’t believe any of this is happening, to be honest. It just seems so surreal.”

“It is. Why didn’t you tell me?” I paused, a lump forming in my throat. It’s because I love you, I wanted to say. Instead I told him that it’s complicated. “I understand.” He replied.

A million thoughts raced through my mind. I was feeling a swirl of emotions inside; the anxiety had my stomach in knots. Now I know there was no going back, Heath knows. It’s only been three days and he knows.

This is too much, all too fast.

  Chapter 4

Heath avoided me for days after I told him about Jake and me. He kept saying he was cool about it, but his actions definitely spoke louder than his words. He would stay out for hours with Caroline when he knew I’d be home, made excuses in between classes not to be with me and so it went. And for some strange reason, Caroline stopped making her fortnightly weekend visits. I cried endlessly for the past two weeks when I was alone because I was essentially losing my best friend.

I woke up on Saturday morning to hear Heath blasting Panic! At The Disco from our living room stereo. Every two weeks we would do a general cleaning of our apartment and today was that day. I took a shower, brushed my teeth and changed into a pair of short pants and a tee.

I jogged downstairs and Heath was in a pair of basketball shorts and a jersey eating a bowl of cereal. “Oh hey, Pieces, how are you?” He asked when he noticed me standing at the foot of the stairs.

“Not good, seeing that you have to ask me that even though we live in the same damn house. What the hell going on with you?”

“Nothing, why do you ask?” He slurped on the milk in his bowl.
