In The Spur of Heath (The Spur Series Book 1) Page 13

by Sydney Ledger

“Please, tell me more.” He brushed his hand against her golden tresses and she scanned his muscular arms. She then bit her lip.

“Well, I’ve heard her talk about you, and all she ever talks about is well, your money, you know.”

“That gold digger!” He exclaimed and clenched his jaw in anger.

“Exactly.” She smiled, then put on a faux-frown. “I’m so sorry, you deserve better, I mean you are insanely hot and she is like, you know.”

  “No, I don’t know. What?”

“Well, you deserve someone more like us, understand?”

“I’m not following, someone like us?” He took another sip of his orange juice.

“She’s a nigger.” Caroline scoffed and he paused in astonishment.

“Wow.” He mouthed, he covered his opened mouth.

“And a gold digger, and she is obviously a drunk. You see how she acted tonight? You’re too classy for that.” She leaned in closer to him and he leaned in even closer to her.

“You really think so, huh?” His lips were insanely close to hers.

“I mean, I am no Princess Diana, but, I have a lot more to offer than her. She can’t even give you a good fuck tonight, passed out drunk. I could, though.” She winked at him.

Jake smirked and bit his lip, “Caroline, listen… there is nothing classy about a racist, I happen to like her for who she is and based on all this fuckery you’re telling me, you have absolutely nothing to offer me, or Heath or any human being for that matter. You are the real gold digger here, and evidently a whore willing to give me a fuck to peak my interest, wrong move. I have young bimbos throwing their pussy in my face all day long at work, you’re no different. Reese is a decent human being and that is why she is the woman I chose to be with. Now get up out my face, before I let Heath know what kind of disgusting slut he’s with.” Caroline stood there motionless, looking absolutely mortified.

“Heath would never believe you over me, anyway. Loser.” She scoffed.

“You think I’d actually leave or cheat on the girl I love with you? You’re the real loser here.” He grinned. “Hold this L.” He placed an L-shaped piece from his Chex Mix on top of the counter and she looked down at it. She then rolled her eyes and stomped back up the stairs. He shook his head in disdain and continued eating his snack until it was all done.

After he washed up his dishes, he went to the bathroom upstairs, brushed his teeth and got into bed, snuggling up to me. As he became comfortable, his phone rang and he answered it. As usual, the number was blocked and no one responded, just breathing. Jake sucked his teeth and threw his phone to the side and went to sleep.

Next morning, Jake’s eyes slowly fluttered open. He squinted his eyes and exhaled. I was still passed out; my arm and hair on his face. He stifled a grin as he eased himself from under me and headed for the bathroom.

He splashed water on his face, brushed his teeth and gargled some mouth wash. He used a towel to dry his face and paused when he heard Heath’s voice. He then looked at himself in the mirror, squinting and widening his eyes, checking his slightly crooked tooth, and turning his face from side to side. He then tussled his hair and smirked. “Man, I’m so lame.” He whispered to himself.

He walked back into the room, observing my hungover slumber; my legs spread across the bed and pillow over my head. He shook his head in amusement and headed downstairs.

Heath heard Jake coming down the stairs and looked up at him. “Oh, hey Mr. Cavanaugh.” Heath announced, leaning against the sink as he poured out some cereal and milk into a bowl.

“Andrews, I told you to call me Jake when we’re out of the classroom.”

“Jake.” Heath deadpanned. “Where’s Reese, still sleeping?”

“Pretty much. Look, I’ve got something to tell you concerning Caroline.” Jake replied as he sat at the breakfast bar.

“Yeah, I know.” He took a spoonful of cereal.

“Really, she told you?” Jake asked in astonishment. “How’d you deal with that?”

“How does one deal with their teacher hitting on their girlfriend?”

  “What?”

“You hit on her last night, and when she turned you down, you threatened to tell me she hit on you.” Heath slammed down his bowl.

“Andrews, are you fucking kidding me? No, not that at all.” Jake’s face contorted in repulsion.

“You really are a bloody nuisance. Reese, would love to hear this though.” Heath murmured.

“Hear what?” I yawned, as I approached them, interrupting their conversation. Jake turned to me abruptly, like if he was caught stealing. “Morning baby.” I smiled at Jake. “Ugh, I feel like shit.” I massaged my temples.

  “Morning.” Jake mouthed.

“Where’s Caroline?” I asked, sitting on the stool at the breakfast bar.

“Yeah, where is Caroline?” Jake asked, folding his arms and anticipating an answer from Heath.

“Does it matter?” Heath asked grimly.

“Hey, whoa. What’s wrong with you, two?” I glanced back and forth between them both.

“Reese, I came down here to inform Heath that his girlfriend is a slut.”

“What?” My eyes got a thousand times bigger hearing Jake say that. I pulled my lips into my mouth, trying not to laugh.

  “Oh fuck off!” Heath shouted.

“She hit on me last night! Why the fuck would I want her? Ew!” Oh my fucking Goodness, what the fuck happened? Did I walk into an episode of Jerry Springer? Ha! Jake just called Caroline an Ew. Omg I am so dead. “She told me you’re a gold digger.” A what now? And that I deserved better ‘cause you’re a nigger.” Holy Christ I knew the bitch was off! That racist cunt! “She’s a disgusting piece of shit closet racist. And now a liar ‘cause she told Heath that I hit on her. When I told her I’d tell you, she said you’d never believe me over her. She even offered me sex!” Ah damn it, I love you Jake! I love you even more now!

“Wait, wait, wait. She called her a nigger?” Heath’s eyes nearly sprung out of his head. “I don’t believe this. I don’t wanna believe this. What?”

  “Yes.” Jake sounded infuriated.

“I knew there was a reason I didn’t like the bitch. Where is she?” I jumped off the stool.

“Calm down, Pieces. I’ll deal with her.” Heath threw his bowl of cereal into the sink and stomped upstairs. Jake and I followed by closely.

Heath barged into the bedroom where Caroline was wrapped in a towel, just out of his bathroom. “Hey babe, you told Reese?” She smirked. Her smirk slowly faded when she saw the look on his face. Jake and I stepped into the room and she gave us a hateful once over.

“A nigger? Carr, really?” Heath screamed.

“What are you talking about?” She asked in astonishment. Little bitch actress. “Are you taking his word over mine?”

“You see Carr, this is not the first time I’ve heard that you’ve done shit like this. That’s how I know it’s real. You and your clothes, out of here. Now!” He yelled.

“Are you fucking kidding me, Heath? Her? Again, her?” She snickered.

“This isn’t about her. This is about you and the raging cunt you are.”

“Fuck you. Think I didn’t see her birthday card.” She spat, almost in tears.

“What’s she talking ‘bout?” Jake whispered to me and I told him that it was nothing. When she turned away from him, I stepped in front of her.

“A nigger, bitch are you for real? It’s 2015. The fuck is wrong with you?” I asked her, fighting back every urge I had to smack her in her stupid face.

“Fuck. You.” She mouthed and that was it, I was totally enraged and barely had a chance to think of my actions. I just wanted her to feel my wrath. She had totally crossed the line. My face was solemn as I pulled my hand far back and lunged with extreme force, whipping her across the face. The crack of hand on skin contacting echoed throughout the room. I could hear the gasps and hisses from both Heath and Jake as vibrations of pain radiated
from my palm and spread to my fingertips. It was bright red, the same red mark matching the one on her face. She stumbled back, nearly falling to the floor and as I was about to ambush her, Jake pulled me back and Heath darted in front of her.

“Reese, no.” Heath pleaded. “As much as I’d love you to, she’s not worth it.” He watched her in disgust as she watched me with wide eyes. “I never wanna see you again. You know I hate that racist nonsense. I have black family members and I’d be damned if I let you disrespect them or her with those nasty words.” He shook his head and left the room. She held on to her swollen bright red face, tears streaming down her cheeks, watching me with the world of contempt.

“Guess he didn’t believe ya. Oh well. Better luck next time” Jake shrugged his shoulders and left with me.

I walked downstairs and saw Heath pouring a large glass of vodka. He gulped it down and looked up at me, his eyes red and glassy with tears.

  “Hey Pieces.” He sniffled.

  “You okay?”

“No, not really. I messed up. I really did.” He shook his head in disbelief. “I can’t believe I messed up like this. I should have left her when you told me to.” He poured another glass of vodka and gulped it down. “For a minute, I wanted to believe it was Jake that hit on her. Agh!” He screamed and stormed outside.

I walked back upstairs towards my room and Caroline passed with her clothes. “Bye Felicia.” I snorted. She watched me, her nose flaring, and I sized her. Bitch, I am not the one. She then left.

I slipped into my room and Jake was lying on my bed. “So?” I leaned against the doorframe with folded arms. He looked up at me.

  “Yeah?”

“About last night?” I raised a questionable and very apologetic brow.

“What about it? You had a superb time.” He grinned.

“I did? Yeah, I did. I didn’t embarrass you? Did I?” I paced towards the foot of the bed awaiting his response. I then crawled on top of the bed, creeping slowly and seductively towards him, hovering him as he stared at me. “Embarrass me? Reese, it was your birthday and you had an incredible time. I’m glad I was able to give you a good birthday.” A stained smile of gratitude spread across my lips.

“You are incredible.” I watched him dead in his eyes and leaned in for a kiss. “Thank you.” I whispered against his lips.

“And what exactly transpired between you and Caroline?” I asked as I rolled over onto the bed. He hovered over me, propping himself on his elbow and explained everything that happened between them and I couldn’t have loved him more. I laughed so hard at the audacity of the bitch. She thought she had him eating out of her palm. I especially loved the part he told her she was a bimbo like the rest of the girls at school. How classic!

After that, he took my mouth into his, hands travelling up under my vest and onto my bare breasts. He squeezed gently at them, kneading and caressing as he nibbled on my neck. The hairs on my body shot up. And I wanted him inside me so bad with just the feel of his lips on mine. He was destroying my restraint, slowly but surely. I began to pull on the hem of his vest, bringing it over his chest and up his arms. When it was off, I tossed it to the side and ran my hands over his beautifully sculpted body.

Each time I saw him bareback, I was even more taken aback. He was the epitome of sexy – just the way I liked it too; not too big and certainly not small. Perfection in my eyes, and the fact that he was so normal and showed mounds of humility just made him even more attractive than he already was. I was yet to see a flaw in him. “Ugh! Just fuck me!” I pleaded, arching my body into his and without hesitation, he did as he was told.

  Chapter 6

I walked Jake towards my car in the driveway. He pressed the alarm key, deactivating the locks and got in. He started the ignition and faced me, his fingers gripping the steering wheel. I leaned through the window, propping myself on the door and pecked him on the lips. “I wish you didn’t have to go.” I frowned.

“I know, but I’ve got work to do. I’ll bring the car for you a little later. Sven’s spending the day with his family, so when he’s available he would be able to pick me up. ” He gave me an apologetic scowl.

“Awww, I understand. Thank you for an awesome birthday.”

“Thank you for spending it with me.” He sized me, taking notice of perturbed expression. “Hey, don’t let things stress you out, okay? I love you.” He brushed the stray hairs away from my face with a ghost of smile on his lips.

“I love you, too.” I replied coyly. Our lips met again and I backed away, watching as he reversed out of the driveway, and down the road until it disappeared from my view.

As Jake neared his house, he received yet another anonymous call and picked up. But of course, no one answered. He placed his phone back into his blazer and it rung again. “Agh.” He growled and pulled out his phone. “Oh?” He relaxed when he saw Granger, the tech guy from Dillcaster Communications, calling him.

“Jake from State Farm, you just received yet another call.” Jake began to laugh.

“Could you please not call me that?” He grinned. “What’s happening, Grange, speak to me.” Jake pulled up in his garage and parked my car behind his DB9. He stepped out and locked the doors.

“That call, you just received, came from your house.” Granger explained and Jake paused.

  “What?”

“Yeah, that last call came from your house man, be careful. Need me to call the cops?”

  “Na, I can handle it.”

“Alright man, if I don’t hear from you in a few minutes, I’m coming to see you myself.” Jake hung up, put his phone back into his blazer and walked towards his DB9, unlocked it and pulled something out of the glove compartment. It was a gun. He stuck it in the back of his pants and crept up to the door that connected his house to his garage. He pulled out his keys, unlocked the door and eased it open, the alarm was disarmed. He walked past the staircase and made his way to the living room. No one there.

He continued his silent movements toward the kitchen – nothing, no one. The place was dark. He flicked on the lights and made his way upstairs, his hand to the back of him, resting on his gun. He walked into his bedroom but no one was around, leaving his door wide open. He walked towards the door leading to the balcony but heard the door behind him slam along with a few footsteps and he spun around quickly.

“What the fuck!” Jake exclaimed when he saw the person standing in front his door.

“Nice to see you, too.” A short, dark skinned girl with dreadlocks said in a strong Jamaican accent with a smirk across her lips. She had smooth chocolaty skin; straight pearly white teeth; small almond shaped eyes; full lips; long black dreadlocks and a petite frame with a decent sized rear. She was wearing a brown leather jacket, a pair of white ripped jeans and calf length brown boots.

“Kin, it’s you been calling me all this time?”

“Ya can’t lock a gurl off and think that’s de end, bwoy. So dis wah ya been up to? Get a big house and cyar and can’t even holla at me. I see how it is.” She observed his room.

“What do you want?” He fidgeted uneasily.

“Well, I came back for my man. What else?”

“Kin, that ship has sailed so many oceans ago.” He replied as he took off his blazer.

“Yeah, that’s the problem… you can’t just get my help, get rich and get out. You owe me Jacob.”

  “I don’t owe you a damn thing.”

“I see ya still have de hood life in ya, where ya get de gun?” She paced up to his bed and sat on the edge of it. He then pulled out the gun out of his waistband and flung it to the floor.

“Unlike the ones we used to have, this is registered, and I thought you were someone else.” His face emotionless, clenching his jaw and narrowing his eyes at her. He took off his jersey and tossed it aside.

“And ain’t call de police? You brave bwoy.” She smirked and scanned his bare torso. “Mmm… you’ve been working out. Yuh was such a fragile likkle bwoy. But I changed tha
t and you just disappeared on me, after I was so good to you.”

“How’d you get in my house? Scratch that, how do you know where I live?”

“Oh please, Jacob, don’t insult me. Ya know how we used to do it back in de day. So ya get big business and forget ‘bout me n de game?”

“I had enough of that lifestyle, Kin. Don’t you think you’re a little old to still be fiddling around in it as well?”

“After you left me fi dead? I way past de game baby. I here fi my cut. And I here fi you, too.”

“Sorry, I’m already taken. And I didn’t leave you for dead, your stupid cousin got in the way of the drop and told me it was his turf. He told me to get lost. I tried to tell you to forget about this life and that I had enough money to start doing things differently. Me and Joey started the club like we said we would and after it generated enough income I gave him complete ownership and I started teaching. You’re the little coke head that liked the lifestyle. Don’t blame me for your fuck ups!” He shouted.

Teaching? Baby don’t insult my intelligence. I know ‘bout Cave Ink. You try to keep a low profile so I couldn’t find you.”

“That was the idea, Kin. But here you are, anyway. Guess my efforts have failed me.”

  “Does she know?”

  “Does who know? Know what?”

“Your little student. Does she know? About your past and how ya really started?”

“You’ve been stalking me?” He exclaimed. “The fuck is wrong with you, Kin? And you better not go near her.”

“Oh, I won’t.” She pulled a gun out of one of her boots. “As long as you don’t either.”

“You’re insane!” Jake walked past her and toward his bedroom door. “Get out!”

“Jakey, Tsk. Tsk. Tsk.” She shook her head and got up off the bed. “Fine. Her blood will be on ya hands.” She walked past him and he pushed her back.

“Hold up. You can’t just walk into my life after ten years and fuck everything up! Aghhhh!” He screamed out, clutching onto his hair and clenching his jaw in anger.
