When I went up to Marisol’s room to check on her before I left, she was a mess. “Hey, I was just comin’ to see if you need anything before I roll out.”
“Rich, do you have to go?”
“Why? Do you want me to stay?”
“Yeah. I just don’t want to be alone.”
I knew that I had to get at Jade and even though Juan was on top of it, his weak-ass probably had every intention of pullin’ out at any moment. I needed to leave, but couldn’t help but wonder if I stayed would Marisol be more likely to trust me. Or if I left would she know what I was up to? My mind raced wit’ thought after thought. I had to make a choice.
Makin’ my decision, I gave Marisol a kiss on her forehead and let her know that I would be back to check on her by the end of the day. Gettin’ rid of that trouble causin’ bitch was way more important than consolin’ a friend right now. As soon as I walked out of the house, Juan’s name popped up on my phone.
“Tell me you got good news,” I said, jumpin’ into my truck.
“Man, I’m still following this bitch. We’re on the BW Parkway. Damn near in Baltimore.”
If Juan knew I put his mother out on that same highway, I’m sure he wouldn’t be helpin’ me right now, I thought. “She’s reckless man, you can’t lose her. Just continue to follow her for me, please Juan,” I begged. “I’m just leavin’ Marisol’s, but it’s not gonna take long for me to jump on 495. I’m gonna try and catch up wit’ y’all as soon as possible.”
“Wait…we’re getting off on the Arundel Mills exit,” Juan informed.
“Alright, don’t lose her, I’m right behind you.”
My son had definitely come through for me this time. I knew that he wasn’t my biggest fan, but I’m sure he was aware that if we didn’t work together on this, it could cost us all big time. It was a matter of life and death not only for me, but my entire family. Wit’ my .45 on my lap, I raced down 495 and made it onto the BW Parkway in no time. I called Juan back just to see where they were a few minutes later.
“Where are you now?”
“She stopped to get gas right off the exit. Then she got some food at the Chick Fila drive thru. Now, I’m sitting in the parking lot of that hotel called Springhill Suites. It’s right across the street from the mall.”
“Oh yeah, I know which one you talkin’ about. I’m like ten minutes away. If she pulls out again, call me back. If not, I’ll see you soon.”
“Aight.”
When I made it to the Arundel Mills exit, I felt as if all of my issues about anyone findin’ out that I’d killed Los would soon be over. I always had a gut feelin’ that Jade was the one who’d tipped Marisol off about Los’ body anyway, so I was more than ready to end her life. My adrenaline raced as I pulled into the parkin’ lot and parked next to Juan. I quickly got out of my truck, and got in the car wit’ him. I was surprised to see that he had on a Nationals baseball hat pulled down over his eyes.
“What’s up man? She still in there?”
“Yeah. Her room is 524.”
I was surprsed. “Damn, I didn’t think you were gonna be able to figure that out. I thought I would have to do her ass in the parkin’ lot.”
“Well, the dumb bitch was so busy on the phone she didn’t even realize that I’d followed her into the hotel. As she was checking in, I sat at the computer in the business center like I had some shit to do. My goal was to at least find out what floor she was on, but the rooky nigga at the front desk actually told her the room number right before giving her the key. It was like this shit was meant to be.”
“Damn, I guess it was. I appreciate you man. Soon all this shit will be over wit’. Was she by herself? Did she have more than one cup wit’ her food?”
“She by herself, and she only had one cup.”
“Cool, so I guess we can sit here for a couple of minutes and check out the area before we move in and…”
“Oh, hell no!” Juan interrupted. “I’m done. I did my part. Shit, I ain’t no killer.”
“Man, I need you here wit’ me. I can’t pull this off by myself. At least be the lookout nigga.”
“No. Like I just said, I did my part. All the other shit you planning is gonna have to be done on your own because I’m not killing nobody! I’m out. Now, get the fuck out my car, Rich!”
Just when I thought things were headed in the right direction wit’ us, he always found a way to fuck it up. “Man, Juan fuck you! Punk-ass!” I yelled then got out and slammed his car door as hard as I could. It was times like these when I missed Carlos. He was always down for whatever and never bitched up.
I was pissed. Juan obviously didn’t realize the benefit for all of us if Jade was gone. I watched him pull off irritated. Little did his bitch-ass know he was an accessory regardless if I did the deed or not.
I laid low in my car and waited for about thirty minutes which was as long as I could wait. Gettin’ out of my car, I put my gloves on then put my gun in my waist wit’ the silencer already attached. Makin’ sure there was no one around, I crept to the front of the hotel, then waited for the clerk to go in the back before I walked inside and made a mad dash to the elevator. Hopin’ no one saw me, I mentally prepared myself for what I was about to do as the elevator stopped on the fifth floor.
Once I made my way to the door, I listened first to see if I could hear her talkin’ to someone. Since the only thing I could hear was the TV, I knocked on the door. I knew if I tried to cover the peep hole, Jade probably wouldn’t answer, so I decided to duck down so she couldn’t see me. It wasn’t the best plan, but it was my only one.
“Who is it?” she said in a soft tone.
“Room Service,” I replied, disguisin’ my voice.
“Room Service, I didn’t order anything.”
“Well, I have an order for some chocolate covered strawberries. I’ll just leave them here at your door. Please sign the bill and put it back on the tray when you’re done,” I said, still in disguise. My voice was about to crack.
“But I didn’t order anything,” Jade said again. I wanted her to think I’d left, so I was quiet as I listened to her talkin’ to herself. “I didn’t order any damn strawberries. Hello?”
I hoped like hell Jade’s curiosity would get the best of her and she would eventually open the door. After waitin’ for what seemed like forever, and as luck would have it, she finally removed the lock and opened the door. I felt like a kid at Christmas as I pushed the rest of the door open wit’ my gun drawn. Tryin’ to catch her before she screamed, I quickly covered her mouth then shut the door before pushin’ her up against the wall.
My eyes were immediately drawn to the small .22 sittin’ on the nightstand as if she knew she might be in danger. My mind began to wonder where she could’ve gotten the gun from as I pressed my gloved hand further against her face.
We stared at each other for a few minutes before I finally spoke up. “I just have one question. Why the fuck did you call Marisol and tell her where Carlos’ body was?” When I removed my hand, Jade looked at me like she was afraid to speak at first.
“What the hell are you talking about? I didn’t call Marisol and tell her anything. I gave you my word.”
“Yeah right, bitch! You gave me your word, but you just tried to get me caught up at the memorial service today. Get on the bed!” I yanked her arm then made sure I grabbed her gun and put it inside my coat pocket just in case she felt brave.
“What are you waiting for? Go ahead and get it over with!” she yelled.
Jade was a soldier and rarely showed fear of anything. Both she and Marisol were a lot alike in that way, but today was a lot different than how she’d been in the past, she knew what I had come to do.
“Shut the fuck up!”
Jade had obviously just gotten out of the shower and looked sexy as hell in her white robe. Wit’ it slightly open, her perky breasts were exposed.
“So, you got some new piercings, huh?” I said, commentin’ on her nipples.
“Yeah you bastard, and I got my pussy pierced, too,” she said exposin’ her cleanly shaven nest. There was a piercin’ right at the top of her lips. I knew I had a job to do, but my manhood got the best of me. I had to have her one more time before I killed her. When I flashed back to how good and wet the sex was, my dick slowly started to rise. Damn, we could’ve been good together, I thought.
“Is this what you want, Rich? Do you miss this?” Jade asked. She placed her hands inside of her pussy and started fingerin’ herself. She then laid back and started pleasurin’ herself as if she was havin’ a party that I wasn’t invited to.
“Come on Rich, you scared, come over here and fuck me.”
“Turn on your stomach,” I demanded as I pulled my pants down and plunged deep inside her wetness.
She felt so good that I immediately lost focus and took my coat off, but still kept my gun in one hand just in case. Jade moaned as if she’d missed fuckin’ me as much as I missed fuckin’ her.
“I miss this good shit, Jade. Damn, why did you leave me?”
“Shut up, Rich. Stop being sentimental and fuck me,” she demanded before throwin’ her ass back on me.
She played wit’ her clit and moaned then flipped around and laid on her back. She put her hands behind her waist to lift herself off the bed a little and started fuckin’ me even harder. I had one hand on her waist while pointin’ the gun directly at her head wit’ the other.
She continued to fuck me before slowly grabbin’ the gun and placin’ the silencer in her mouth. I knew this bitch was a beast when she started suckin’ the barrel like a professional porn star, which completely turned me on. She then started playin’ wit’ my balls and as soon as I started to cum the gun went off.
I stopped movin’ instantly. “Oh shit,” I said lookin’ down at her lifeless body.
Even though I’d pulled the trigger by accident, I succeeded wit’ my plans. I hated to kill a bitch wit’ such good pussy, but she had to go.
Chapter Fifteen
JUAN
When I woke up this morning I saw that I had several missed calls from Rich and Uncle Renzo. I’d gone to bed early the night before after I listened to my mother complain about Rich and feel sorry for herself once again about Carlos. It seemed as though anytime Carlos’ name came up her whole world came to an end. The damsel in distress move was getting old and definitely wearing thin on my nerves. Sometimes I wished that I didn’t always have to worry about her, especially since I needed to focus on my life for a change. It was time for me to start concentrating on me.
It’s crazy how when you get older, the roles of parent and child eventually reverse. I’d gone from needing my mother and Rich to them needing me. I didn’t minhelping out Rich every now and then, but the stunt he’d pulled the day before pissed me off. I knew that I had to follow Jade because I couldn’t risk her exposing my mother, but I didn’t sign up for being a fucking accessory to murder. Shit, I wasn’t a killer. All I wanted to do was make money, hit a couple of chicks, and pop bottles from time to time. Street life is all I’d ever known, but I’d been lucky enough to make it without having to really prove my street cred. Carlos and Rich had paved the way for me in that sense. Selling drugs was a far stretch from killing muthafuckas and I needed it to stay that way.
As soon as I was about to get out of bed, my phone rang. I sighed when I looked at the caller ID.
“What’s up, Rich?” I answered in a dry tone.
“Man, you duckin’ my calls now. I been callin’ your ass all night.”
“What do you want? I ain’t got time to argue with you right now.”
“Look, I’m still your father. I’m not one of your little bitches, so be careful when you’re talkin’ to me.”
“Well, stop actin’ like one.”
“Muthafucka, I needed you last night and you wouldn’t answer the phone, but as usual I handled everythin’. There’s no need for you to try to duck me! I took care of everythin’ without you, slim.”
“Look, I’m a grown-ass man. There’s no need for me to try and duck your fucking calls. If I don’t want to talk to you then I’ll say just that. If I don’t answer then that means I’m busy.”
“Busy doin’ what? Fuckin’ some broad. That shit could’ve waited,” Rich shot back.
“No, I was busy comforting your wife all night. It seems that’s been my job for as long as I can remember. Some shit you should be doing!”
“Juan, you know what…”
The phone went dead because I hung up on his selfish-ass. Little did that nigga know, he wouldn’t have to take care of everything if it wasn’t for me. I could’ve easily reminded him of that shit, since he’d had a memory loss, but just wasn’t in the mood to deal with it.
After I hung up, I gave Uncle Renzo a call to see what was up. He let me know that he was going to come see me in less than an hour to continue our conversation from the day before. Quickly agreeing to his visit, I didn’t want to pass up my opportunity to get him to trust me. My goal was to not only get Rich off the streets, but get what I needed to go legit and turn my money legal. I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted to do yet, but I was going to figure it out along the way.
*****
Uncle Renzo arrived forty-minutes later, ready to discu’m siness. I was so happy my mother was at the hospital with Carlie because I didn’t wanna have to play interference the entire time he was at the house. In her reckless state of mind, she was bound to say something stupid that would make him suspicious, and I didn’t need that stress right now.
When I opened the door, Uncle Renzo wasn’t alone. He was with his right hand man, Armondo, who looked like he was straight from the Italian mob. Because they were so opposite, I never understood how they ever became business partners. Everything about Armondo reminded me of Al Pacino. From the way he talked to how full his hair was on top. He had a strong Spanish accent and the two of them together would intimidate the baddest of all gangsters.
“What’s up, Unc’? Hey Armondo, come on in.”
We made our way through the foyer before taking a seat in the living room. No one ever went into our living room, but I wanted to have a more serious tone for the meeting.
“So, how are you son?” Uncle Renzo asked. From the dark circles under his eyes, it seemed like he hadn’t slept in days.
“I’m cool. I’m glad that y’all were able to come see me before you left town.”
“Well Juan, I like your style and I think that you’ll be a great asset to the business, however there are a couple of things that concern me about you,” Uncle Renzo stated.
“Really? Like what?” I inquired with a worried expression.
“I think that my first concern is that you’re Rich’s son. I’m not sure that your loyalty would be with me or with him. He just didn’t handle things the way I would’ve liked him to when Carlos went missing, so I basically cut him off from the business. If you end up working for me, Rich can’t be informed of anything we do. He’s probably bitter, so I don’t trust him now.”
“That’s understandable,” I replied.
“Plus, there are too many questions and I need them answered before I can completely take on trusting you. Now, I’m not sure if those answers are going to come from you or from Rich, but I need to get to the bottom of who did this to my son.” Uncle Renzo cracked his knuckles and gave me a stern look.
I shook my head. “So, what is it that you need from me? I need to prove to you that I can be trusted.”
“I need to know where your loyalty lies. I mean to be honest, it should be with Rich. He gave you life.”
“Fuck, Rich. He gave me life, but he never taught me how to live it. I’ve watched him beat and disrespect my mother for years. He’s out for self and I just…”
Uncle Renzo cut me off. “Okay, that’s enough. Now, my next issue is, you’re too emotional. It’s obvious that you were raised by Lisa.”
“Damn, so what are you saying? I act like a woman?” I asked with a frown.<
br />
“No, I’m saying you wear your emotions on your sleeve. You have to learn the poker face. Before we can do business together, the flashiness, spending money in the club and driving all these expensive cars, is not gonna work. That shit is too hot. That draws the Feds and that’s attention I don’t need.”
“Alright, I can dig that.”
Armondo finally spoke up. “Okay here’s my question. What happened with your jail situation? How did you beat those charges untouched?”
Instantly, a lump formed in my throat. He’d completely caught me off guard and I didn’t know how to respond. Luckily, my mother came in the door a few seconds later yelling my name and asking me to come and help her with the bags.
“Umm, excuse me fellas,” I said, getting up. I walked into the kitchen wiping the beads of sweat that had popped up on my forehead.
“Here,” my mother said, handing me two grocery bags.
“Uncle Renzo and Armondo are here Ma, so don’t ruin anything,” I whispered as she rolled her eyes and went into the living room where they were. As I put the milk in the refrigerator, I continued to glance back into the living room.
“Well, hello, you special gentlemen. You know I don’t normally allow anyone to sit in my living room,” she joked. They all laughed as both men gave her a hug.
“So, how’s that baby of yours?” Uncle Renzo questioned.
“She’s doing okay. She weighs a little over four pounds now, but we have to wait for her lungs to fully develop and gain more weight before she can come home.”
Uncle Renzo sat back down. “So, is Rich being supportive of his new daughter, and speaking of daughters, how is Denie? We missed her at the memorial yesterday?”
“Well Renzo, Carlie is my daughter. As for Denie, she moved with Rich months ago and I haven’t heard from her.”
