Clara: (reading) Time machine.....
Doc and Marty meanwhile are chasing the train on their horses. Doc manages to climb on the last carriage.
Doc: C'mon Marty!
Marty: Argh, argh!
Doc: Ah, gimme your hand!
Doc grabs Marty's hand and pulls him onto the train. They both fall over on each other.
Marty: Argh! Whoa! Whoa! Argh!
Meanwhile Clara is following them on her horse. Doc and Marty runs across the roofs of the carriages.
Doc: Wa-ha!
Marty: Whoa!
Doc: Hoo! C'mon, Marty!
Marty jumps onto another car.
Marty: Argh!
Doc: C'mon, let's go! Masks on.
By now they're on the tender. They pull their bandannas over their mouths and climb over the tender, before dropping into the cab of the locomotive. Doc is holding a gun.
Doc: Reach!
The engineers (the same one we spoke to at the station a few days earlier, plus another one) put their hands up.
Engineer: Is this a holdup?
Doc and Marty look at each other.
Doc: It's a science experiment! Stop the train before you hit the switch track up ahead.
The train stops. Marty jumps out and changes the points.
Marty: Doc!
He holds his hand up. Doc points his gun at the engineers.
Doc: Uncouple the cars from the tender.
They do so, and Doc starts the train. Marty jumps on as it passes him. Doc pulls the whistle on the train.
Doc: I've wanted to do that my whole life!
Marty laughs.
Music: It's Clara (The Train Part 2) by Alan Silvestri
We see the DeLorean. In the background the train appears and stops just before it would hit the DeLorean. Marty and Doc grab coloured logs and put them in the fire.
Marty: What are these things, anyway?
Doc: My own version of Presto Logs. Compressed wood with anthracite dust chemically treated to make the fire burn hotter and longer. I use them in my forge. These three will light the fire sequentially, make the fire burn hotter, kick up the boiler pressure and make the train go faster.
Meanwhile Clara sees the coaches by themselves on the track, and guesses that Doc has the locomotive. She gestures to her horse to move.
Clara: Hiyah!
Marty is in the DeLorean. Doc is in the train. Doc blows the whistle and the train starts to move. It bumps into the DeLorean, which also starts to move. Marty and Doc speak to each other through walkie-talkies, as before this will be denoted by (w.t).
Marty: (w.t) Ready to roll!
Clara can now see the train, but Marty and Doc can't see her.
Clara: Emmett!
Cut to Marty in the train.
Doc: (w.t) Marty. are the time circuits on?
Marty turns them on.
Marty: (w.t) Check, Doc.
Doc: (w.t) Input the destination time - October 27th 1985, 11am.
Marty does so, then checks the speed.
Marty: (w.t) We're cruising at a steady 25 miles an hour, Doc.
Doc: (w.t) I'm throwing in the Presto Logs.
One by one, Doc throws them in.
Doc: (w.t) Marty, the new gauge will show the boiler temperature. The colour coding indicates when each log will fire. Green, yellow, and red. Each detonation will be accompanied by a sudden burst of acceleration. Hopefully we'll get up to 88 miles per hour before the needle hits two thousand.
Marty: (w.t) Right, what happens what it hits two thousand?
Doc: (w.t) The whole motor will explode.
Marty: (w.t) Perfect.
Clara has caught up with the end of the train and manages to climb on. Cut to Marty.
Marty: (w.t): Hey, Doc, we just hit 35!
Doc: (w.t) OK, Marty, I'm coming aboard!
Doc climbs over the front of the train.
Clara: Emmett!
But Doc doesn't hear her. Cut back to Marty. He's looking at the speedometer.
Marty: Come on, come on. (screams into w.t). You better hold on to something, Doc, the yellow log's about to blow!!!
There is an explosion. Clara is thrown back a little bit and is stunned.
Clara: Ahh! (pause) Golly.
Cut back to Marty. The time circuits reveal the present time is 8.18am.
Marty: (w.t) We just passed 40!
Clara manages to get into the driver's seat.
Clara: Emmett! Emmett! Emmett!
Once again she is not heard. Cut to Marty. He opens the car door and looks at Doc.
Marty: (w.t) We just passed 45, Doc, go for it!
Marty looks at the speedometer again.
Marty: 50!
The train whistle blows. Both Marty and Doc are puzzled. Doc turns back to the cab and sees Clara, waving.
Music: Point Of No Return (The Train Part 3) by Alan Silvestri
Clara: Emmett!
Doc screams with delight.
Doc: Clara!
Clara: I love you!
Marty: (w.t) Doc, Doc! What's happening??
Doc: (w.t) It's Clara, she's on the train!
Marty: (w.t) Clara! (to himself) Perfect.
Doc: (w.t) She's in the cab. I'm gonna go back for her.
Marty looks out the window. They've passed the windmill - the point of no return!
Marty: (w.t) The windmill! Doc, the windmill! We're going' past 50, you'll never make it!
Doc: (w.t) Then we'll have to take her back with us! Keep calling out the speed!
Doc turns to Clara and shouts to her.
Doc: Clara, climb out here to me!
Clara: I don't know if I can!
Doc: You can do it! Just don't look down.
Slowly, Clara begins to climb out of the cab.
Doc: That's it!
Marty tells Doc the speed.
Marty: (w.t) 60 miles an hour, Doc!!
Clara is making her way closer to Doc during the following.
Doc: (to Clara) You're doing fine! Nice and steady! Come on! Just a little further!
Clara: I can't Emmett, I'm scared!
Marty: (w.t): 70!
Cut back to Doc and Clara.
Doc: Come on...you're doing fine...nice and easy...that's it...don't look down...
Marty: (w.t) Doc! The red log's about to blow!
Doc: Clara!
Another explosion. Clara nearly falls of the train, but her dress catches on something and she's hanging upside down.
Doc: Whoa!!
Clara: Emmett!
Doc: Clara! Hold on!
Clara: I can't!
Clara's dress is ripping and she's getting closer to the ground. Inside the DeLorean, Marty notices the hoverboard.
Marty: (w.t) Doc! I'm gonna slip you the hoverboard!
Doc: Marty! Watch out!
Marty sees a sign saying that the track is not finished yet. He ducks and the car smashes through the sign, missing Marty's head though.
Marty: Argh!
Clara: Ahh!! Ahh! Emmett, help!
Doc: Hold on, Clara! Whoo!
We see the end of the bridge, and the train heading towards it. There isn't much time left! Cut back to Marty and Doc.
Marty: (w.t) Doc! Catch it!
Marty sends the hoverboard flying toward Doc. Doc manages to "catch" it with his feet.
Doc: Whoa!
Marty: Yes! Yes!
Clara: Emmett!
Doc: Hold on!
Clara's dress rips and she falls.
Doc: Woah!
He picks her up just in time, and they fly off on the hoverboard.
Marty: Yes!
He watches Doc and Clara fly off. Marty then notices it's almost time! He shuts the car door and puts his hat on. The DeLorean reaches 87mph. We cut to the display panel. The camera does a close up: OCT 27 1985. The speed reaches 88 and the DeLorean heads into the future. The train reaches the end of the bridge, falls into the ravine and explodes. There is a great cloud
of smoke.
OCTOBER 27, 1985
The smoke fades away and we see the bridge as it is in 1985. The three sonic booms are heard and the DeLorean coasts safely across the bridge. It passes by a billboard for "Hilldale: Hill Valley's Newest Homes - You'd Be Home By Now" - and travels through a level crossing (railroad crossing) which has the barriers down and lights flashing. Marty looks at the people in the cars, who are giving him strange looks. The DeLorean stops just beyond the crossing.
A diesel horn is heard. Marty looks up and sees a diesel train about to collide with him.
Marty: Shit!
The door won't open, but Marty gets out just in time.
Marty: Argh!
Marty is still in the air when the collision occurs. The DeLorean smashes into pieces, and the train continues with its journey. Marty sees the time circuits, they clicker one more time before they go dead - forever.
Marty: Well, Doc, it's destroyed.
Marty lifts his head.
Marty: Just like you wanted.
Marty goes home. He runs past the Lyon Estates signs and stops outside his garage. The door is open. Marty walks over to his truck but is stopped by a voice.....
Biff: (o.s) Hey butthead! Get away from-
BIFF comes out of the garage. He's back to how he was at the end of Part 1. He's once again waxing Marty's truck.
Marty: Watch it, Biff.
Biff recognises Marty and starts speaking to him in a much nicer tone.
Biff: Marty! I - I didn't mean to scare ya! I didn't recognise you in those clothes!
Marty: What the hell are you doing?
Biff: Uh...just putting on the second coat now! You going cowboy, huh?
Biff gives Marty a quick thumbs-up, as DAVE opens the front door and comes out. He looks at his watch.
Dave: C'mon, guys, we're gonna be late for brunch!
He's followed by LINDA. Both are dressed up smartly.
Linda: Come on, Dad, they won't hold your reservations all day!
GEORGE & LORRAINE leave the house. Dave and Linda continue talking to each other.
George: I can't find my other glasses! Lorraine, have you seen my glasses?
Lorraine: They're in your suede jacket, honey.
Lorraine notices Marty - the first to do so.
Lorraine: Marty? What's wrong? We thought you went to the lake.
Linda: You wore that to the lake?
Marty: Thank God you guys are all back to normal!
Dave: Hey Marty, who're you supposed to be, Clint Eastwood?
Dave laughs at his joke.
Marty: Right. I gotta go get Jennifer.
Marty gets into his truck.
Biff: I really like that hat, Marty.
Marty: Thanks, Biff.
Mart drives to Jennifer's house. JENNIFER is still in her swinger - in fact she's in the same position that she was left in in Part 2.
Marty: Jennifer. Jen. Jennifer.
She's still not stirring. Marty sits next to her and kisses her. This wakes her up and she smiles at him.
Jennifer: Marty. Marty!
Jennifer sits up and hugs Marty.
Jennifer: I had the worst nightmare.
Cut to the truck. Marty drives the truck with Jennifer inside. They stop at some traffic lights.
Jennifer: Marty, that dream I had is so real. It was about the future. It was about us...and you got fired.
Marty: (surprised) Wait a minute, what do you mean I got fired?
Marty's POV. He looks out the window and sees he's next to the Hilldale housing estate.
Marty: Hilldale. Hilldale! This is where we live (covering) ...I...I mean, this is, uh, this is where we're gonna live. Someday.
Marty smiles sheepishly to cover himself. Jennifer gives him a strange look.
Jennifer: Marty...it was a dream, wasn't it?
Marty can't reply - because another truck pulls up next to him. It's NEEDLES with his gang of three (Note: Needles' gang consists of one actor from Buford's gang, one from Biff's gang and one from Griff's gang). Needles has the radio on loudly.
Music: The Power Of Love by Huey Lewis and the News
Needles: Hey! The big "M". How's it hanging, McFly?
Marty: Hey, Needles.
Needles: Nice set of wheels. Let's see what she can do...next green light.
Marty: No thanks.
Needles: What's the matter? Chicken?
Needles' Gang: (laugh) McFly!
Marty looks at him, and Jennifer holds Marty's hand.
Jennifer: Marty...don't!
Marty pulls a lever.
Marty: Grab a hold of something.
Needles and his gang cheer - they're going to race Marty!
Needles' Gang Member: Come on!
Needles: Get on! Yeah, go!
They get more excited as time passes. They keep revving up the engine, as does Marty. The light turns green, and the trucks speed off - but only Needles goes forwards. For Marty goes backwards and spins around.
Jennifer: Argh! (pause) Did you do that on purpose?
Marty: Yeah. You think I was stupid enough to race that asshole?
Marty and Jennifer watch Needles speed ahead. A Rolls Royce pulls out of the next junction, and Needles only just avoids crashing into it. Cut back to Marty.
Marty: Jeez...I would've hit that Rolls Royce.
The words "Rolls Royce" remind Jennifer of what she heard in the future. She gets the fax she bought home from 2015 and she and Marty watch the words "You're Fired" disappear. The future has been changed!
Jennifer: (amazed) It erased!
Cut to the wreckage of the DeLorean. Marty and Jennifer walk towards it. No-one else is around.
Jennifer: You're right. There's not much left.
Marty: Doc's never coming back. I'm sure gonna miss him, Jen.
Marty sees half of a photograph. It's Doc standing by the clock in 1885. The level crossing bells start ringing and Marty and Jennifer look in both directions. There's no trains coming!
Marty: What the hell?
The three sonic booms are heard and a big train, similar to the one destroyed in 1885, appears. Marty and Jennifer are thrown backwards and land in some grass. The train has ELB written on the side and a familiar figure pokes his head out of the cab.....
Marty: Doc!
Doc: Marty!
Yes, it's Doc. He's wearing smart clothes from the 1890s, including a top hat, and has combed his hair.
Marty: (excitedly) Doc! Doc!
Doc: Marty! It runs on steam!
Doc opens the cab to reveal Clara standing next to him.
Doc: Meet the family. Clara, you know.
Clara: Hi, Marty!
Marty: Ma'am!
Doc: These are our boys!
Doc and Clara smile proudly. A young boy of about 10 appears at the doorway.
Doc: Jules!...
Jules is followed by his younger brother, who's about 7 or 8.
Doc: And Verne! (to his sons) Boys, this is Marty and Jennifer.
The boys wave, and Marty and Jennifer wave back.
Marty: Doc, I thought I'd never see you again!
Doc: You can't keep a good scientist down. After all, I had to come back for Einstein, and, well, I didn't want you to be worried about me.
Clara gives Doc a parcel.
Doc: Oh. I brought you a little souvenir.
Doc sits on the cab steps and gives Marty the parcel. Marty opens it and finds it's a framed photo of him and Doc at the 1885 clocktower.
Marty: It's great Doc. Thanks.
Jennifer: Doctor Brown?
Jennifer takes out the erased fax from her pocket and gives it to Doc.
Jennifer: I brought this note back from the future and...now it's erased!
Doc: Of course it's erased!
Jennifer: But what does that mean?
Doc: It means that your future hasn't been written yet. No one's has. Your future is whatever you make it. So make it a good one. Both of ya!
Marty: We will, Doc!
Doc: Stand back!
The train doors close.
Doc: All right, boys, buckle up!
Marty: Hey, Doc...where ya going now? Back to the future?
Doc shakes his head and smiles.
Doc: Nope. Already been there!
Doc and family wave at Marty and Jennifer, and they wave back. Then the train's wheels lift up - it's been hover converted! The train flies off, turns around and heads towards the camera before breaking the time barrier.
Cut to a black screen, it's.....
