over her head she realized that everything was very, very quiet. “Why,” whispered Anna, “all the toys have fallen asleep while waiting for me.” She tried gently shaking Rus but he seemed to be sleeping very deeply so she left him alone and crawled into bed. Thinking back she wondered what the payment she had given Agrippina was, but decided that it didn’t matter. It was nothing, she thought as she closed her eyes, that she couldn’t replace.
