“What did you do?”
“Well son I made her an offer she couldn’t refuse”
“What kind of offer”
“If she left this town she could finish school and I wouldn’t let her grandmother lose her home” Before I knew it I hit him in the face and he hit the floor hard. Looking up; at me from the ground, not knowing what my next move was going to be.
“If you ever come near her or my baby I’ll kill you” Not waiting for a response I stormed out the house slamming the door. I was beyond pissed, I never knew the reason Kacie left after her grandmother died. All along it was because of my father. I had to find her before I lost her forever this time.
“Nathan my man what’s up” Bryce answered the phone. Flying down the street headed nowhere but I was headed somewhere.
“Have you heard from Kacie?”
“No why man”
“Because she saw something and I think she left”
“Oh shit what did you do?”
“Bryce not now have you heard from her”
“No man I haven’t but I’ll let you know if I do”
“Ok” Hanging up with Bryce I headed straight to her cousin house I was determine to get her at any cost.
Pulling to a stop in front of Stasia’s house I seen the truck that Kacie was driving when she was here. I was glad she was still here I had a chance to win here over.
Knocking on the door it took a minute for her to get to the door. When she did she looked pissed.
“Why are you here Nathan Kacie don’t want to see you”
“Let me talk to her”
“Not going to happen”
“Why I need to speak with her”
“Well that’s not going to happen you hurt her”
I know It wasn’t like that at all, Tiffany kissed me”
“Always the other person made the move you just happen to keep your lips glued to hers”
“Well maybe you should ask Tiffany”
“Why do I need to talk to her I’m asking you?”
“Maybe you should keep your tongue out of her mouth long enough to know that Kacie is done with you”
“No I ‘m not letting her go where she is”
“None of your business”
“Stasia I like you but if you don’t let me see Kacie I’ll pick you up and moved you”
“I wish you would” The death stare in her eyes daring me to try her I know when I lost a battle.
“Ok Stasia here me out ok”
“You have five minutes, start talking”
“I love Kacie and I would never hurt her for anything”
“Could have fooled me” She said rolling her eyes at me. I wasn’t getting anywhere with her.
“Stasia let me see Kacie”
“Not going to happen she’s done with you,She’ll call you once the baby comes”
“Over my dead body”
“It can be arranged”
“Stasia I love Kacie and our child I’ll do anything for them just let me talk to her”
“Tell me what happen and I might let you see her”
“I called Tiffany in so I could tell her to stay away from Kacie and to tell her she was carrying my baby”
“I don’t believe you how did you end up in a lip lock if that’s what’s you were doing”
“I thought she was leaving but she kissed me, before I realized what she was doing when I did I put her out and told her not to come back”
“I kind of believe you”
“Ok can I talk to Kacie Then?”
“Well no”
“What do you mean no”
“Well she’s not here”
“Stasia right now is not the time for the games where is Kacie”
“She went home”
“Back to her hotel”
“Uh no Atlanta” It felt like the wind had been knocked out of me. Kacie was in Atlanta, how?
“That’s not possible, her truck was still here, how could she have left that fast”
“She called Jeff and he had a plane arranged for her to leave today” Hearing that Jeff was behind the whole thing pissed me off I was headed to Atlanta I wasn’t losing Kacie like this.
“Stasia I know you’re not a big fan of me right not “
“You think”
“But can I ask you one more favor”
“Depends”
“Will you tell me where she stays I need to get to her today”
“I’m only doing this because you seem like you really care about her, but Nathan if I do this for you and you hurt her again I’ll have you hanging by your balls” I believed her, after she gave me the address I ran back to my car calling my plane to be ready. I was leaving now I couldn’t wait till tomorrow. It was a late notice but I was able to get the plane ready to leave for Atlanta.
Arriving at Kacie’s front door, standing there not believing the kind of home she lived in. It was beautiful it wasn’t to big just the right size for her. With the wraparound porch was a two story white house I could see Kacie living here the structure itself spoke volume. I wasn’t here to look at her house I needed to get inside; I was just hoping Jeff her guard dog wasn’t at the door when I knocked.
I heard footsteps that sounded too heavy to be Kacie’s and instantly I knew who it was. Can my day get any shittier? The door swung open and there stood Jeff with an express that read he wasn’t about to let me near her.
“Where’s Kacie”
“Why are you here?”
“Where is she?”
“Not letting you near her”
“Jeff let me see her”
“Why should I so you can hurt her again, I’m not letting you anywhere near her"
"I'm go to see her one way or another so you either do it willingly or my way"
"I'm not letting you hurt her not again"
"What do you mean again, I never hurt her"
"You hurt her and she was broken when we met, It took awhile to get her where she is and I refuse to let you hurt her again, I’ll kill you if you do “
"Jeff I never hurt Kacie"
"You have no idea what happen to her do you"
"If I knew I wouldn't be asking, would I" I couldn’t bring self to think that my own father had a part in Kacie leaving.
"Well if she wanted you to know she would tell you”
“Kacie baby I’m sorry for waking you I‘ll make him leave if you want”
“Kacie I need to talk to you I’m not leaving until I do”
“Kacie if you want me to I’ll toss his ass out right mow”
“Fine Nathan you have ten minutes start talking” I guess she saw the seriousness in my face. All I needed was five minutes maybe less. Jeff inched his way to her and sat next to her with his arm around her. I wanted so badly to beat the shit out of him but I wouldn’t win Kacie over like that if I did.
“Kacie whatever you saw today didn’t happen the way you saw it”
“So now I’m blind to the fact that I showed up at your office and found you with your tongue down Tiffany’s throat”
“Kacie sweetie clam down you don’t need to stress with the baby”
“No I’m not calling you a lair, you saw it but it wasn’t how you saw it”
“What are you talking about Nathan either you did or didn’t it’s not that hard”
“Kacie yes you saw Tiffany’s lips on me but I didn’t kiss her”
“So then what was it Nathan”
“I called Tiffany there to make sure she stayed away from you I wanted to make sure that she stayed away from you I never thought she would kiss me”
“I can’t believe that you dated her” The hurt in her voice when she mentions me being with Tiffany.
“Yes Kacie I did date her but it was only because my parents wanted us to”
“Yea I forgot you always did what they wanted you too, so Nathan I’m doing you a favor I’ll you see the baby when it gets here then we’ll work out the visits l
ater”
“No Kacie we are not, I want to be with you this is my baby”
“I’m not denying that” I could see I wasn’t getting anywhere with her. She was stubborn through and through. But I wasn’t giving up without a fight I was here to stay.
“I love you I always have” The look on her face went from surprise then back to angry just like that.
“No Nathan you don’t love me, if you did you would have never let your father treat me like he did you did nothing but went on with your happy life so no Nathan you do not love me” I was losing a never ending battle but I was going to win the war.
“Your right Kacie I was a coward I should have been there for you all the way through losing everything I had would have been worth it for you”
“Nathan do you even know what happen the day I hit Tiffany?” It was more of a statement than a question but I still answer anyway.
“I spoke with my father and he told me what happen”
“Did he tell you everything?”
“I hope so”
“Well let me enlighten you” She said getting out of Jeff’s hold. Feeling my anger slowly fade away.
“The day I went in the office I waited until he came in, I heard the door open and close thinking it was the principal I was getting ready to speak when your father took the seat next to me. At first I was shocked” Taking a breather she slowly let it out before she started again.
“He threaten me then my cousin and grandmother saying that if I didn’t stay away from you that he would make sure that we never made it he would get me expelled from school and make sure that my grandmother loses everything, I couldn’t let my cousin or grandma suffer because I hit Tiffany. Nothing happen to her and I was left to stay away from you until school finishes. My grandmother passed before that and I left right after.” I felt for her I had no idea that my own father could be that cruel to me yes but to her. It made sense through because he was all about status with them. But I wasn’t worried about their status any more Kacie was my life and I intended to stay I was prepared to fight Jeff for her too.
“Kacie I had no idea my father was behind you leaving”
“Well now you know so you can leave now and go back to your perfect little world” She walked back to sit next to Jeff, seeing red again I had to get her away from him.
“Kacie I’m not leaving without you Jeff this has nothing to do with you but I have no problem in getting you out the way I will fight for her”
“Well it’s about time you fought for her but if you ever in your life hurt her again I will come after you”
Looking at him like he was crazy what man just willingly gives up his girlfriend like that? I guess my face must have had the question on my face because they both burst out laughing. Still looking confused because I didn’t see anything funny not even a little bit.
“Oh Nathan Jeff’s not my man, he likes the same thing I like. Still confused it took awhile to figure out what she said until I looked at Jeff. I didn’t even notice it when I got here but he was dressed in a pink shirt (not that I haven’t seen men wear a pink shirt) but his was more feminine than anything. It dawn on me what Kacie meant when she said he liked the same thing that she liked. To say I was pleased was an understatement. I was just glad he wasn’t into Kacie.
“Nathan why would you think I was dating Jeff when I got pregnant by you”
“I was mad that I never paid attention to anything when I saw you together he was protective over you something I never was”
Well Nathan I’m giving you one chance to make it right with Kacie don’t ever hurt her again, you better protect her and that baby with your life”
Speaking to Kacie now I was glad that I had my chance with her.
“Kacie you never have to worry about anybody ever hurting you or our baby ever again, I’ll protect you with my life and Kacie” I said getting down on one knee in front of her. She looked shocked and frozen to one spot. Grabbing her hand I open the box.
“Kacie baby will you give me the honor of being my wife” She was still shocked but tears fell down her face.
“Kacie did you hear me” She just shook her head.
“Is that a yes?”
“Yes Nathan, it’s a yes”
“Time to celebrate I’ll grab the glasses and wine for a toast. But I could have cared less what Jeff was saying grabbing Kacie in my arms I kissed her hard and long. Now that she was in my arms I planned to never let her go.

EPILOGUE
Kacie I can’t believe your getting married, I’m so happy for you” My maid of honor Stasia said fixing my veil. I was the happiest women on the planet I was marring the man of my dreams and in a short month I will be having my baby. Nathan wanted to be married before the baby arrived. We still didn’t know the sex of it yet we wanted it to be a surprise.
“I’m so happy Stasia”
“I’m happy for you”
“How’s my future wife doing” It was Nathan over the walkie talkies. He was upset the night before because we slept in separate rooms no matter how much he pleaded with me to bend the rules I wouldn’t. He already knocked me up before we were married and that was one thing I stood by.
“Missing my future husband”
“I miss you to baby I can’t wait to have you as Mrs. Wright”
“I can’t wait to be Mrs. Wright”
“Kacie I can’t take this I need to see you now”
“No Nathan” But it was too late he was gone.
“Stasia you have to stop him, its bad luck to see me before the wedding”
“Ok I’ll do what I can”
After Stasia left, walking over to the window and looking out to the gardens. The wedding was being held in Nathans grandfathers home. Nathan was close to him before he passed two years ago. Nathan never comes here anymore since his passing. I thought it would be special to have it here. Rubbing my baby who I couldn’t wait to meet.
“It’s no longer going to be just you and me kiddo, daddy plans to protect us and be there for us will that make you happy” Right then the baby kicked.
“I take that as a yes”
Stasia came back into the room. After what felt like fore ever. I was hoping she was able to stop him. But since she closed the door was must have been able to hold him off.
“Ok Kace I got him to not come but he’s giving you five minute to get it to the altar if you’re not there he will come get you”
“OK I think I’m ready then”
“Are you ready this is the begin of a new life for you”
“I’m ready”
“Ladies and gentleman can I get your attention”
Nathan said from the stage, what was he up to. We were at the reception in the garden. It was beautiful the giant tent that covered the whole garden everything was white and the chairs were zebra print since I loved animal print so much. Nathan made sure to have it incorporated into the theme. For this to be a wedding put together in ten days everything came out beautiful. It was surreal.
“Kacie my love can you meet me on the floor” I wobbled to where he stood with the mic in his hand. I had no idea what he would say but at that moment I could care less what he said I was just glad to be married to the man of my dreams.
“Kacie I know that I haven’t always protected you or stood my ground, it took me a long time to figure out that I’m nothing without you I’m just a shell of a man but now that I have you I plan to never let you go”
“You better not because I can’t wait to knock some sense into that thick scull of yours” Jeff said from the table. Laughter erupted.
“Believe me Jeff I wouldn’t put anything pass that” Everybody laughed. Jeff and Nathan wasn’t the best of buds but they weren’t trying to kill each other. Nathan turned back to me grabbing my hand to finish his speech.
“Kacie I plan to honor and treasure our love, will you do the honors to have this dance with me Mrs. Wright”
“As long as yo
u don’t mind the company Mr. Wright” I said pointing toward the baby.
“Wouldn’t have it any other way” Right on queue Best of me by Anthony Hamilton came on. I wanted to cry I loved this song.
“Nathan you do know that that is a black man singing this song” Stasia joked he just laughed and pulled me into his arms and started to move us both around the dance floor. As our family and friends watched. All eyes were on us but it felt like it was just us too and everybody else faded to the back ground.
“Kacie you make the happiest man alive I’m so glad I have the rest of my life to make up for the ten I let you go”
“Oh Mr. Wright I don’t know if you can make it up to me, ten years is a lot of time to make up”
“Well lucky for you Mrs. Wright I’m a man that can get the job done”
“Oh really you’re so sure of yourself”
“I’m positive that I can”
“Nathan I’m the luckiest women right now”
“And I plan to make you feel lucky every day, Kacie I meant what I said about protecting and honoring you every day of my life, you stole my heart the day you punched Tiffany in the face” Smiling up at him.
“I would do it all over again too”
“I bet you would Mike Tyson”
“I love you”
“I love you Mrs. Wright forever and ever.
