by James Wolfe
“Right,” I answered.
He was still slack-jawed as he took it all in. “I just… I never even imagined that something like this could be real, and… I just feel like I’m kind of dreaming. I know I’m not, but… wow, this has been a weird twenty-four hours. Just a day ago, I was still dating Rich and living my normal, boring human existence, and, now… now I know a werewolf.”
“I’m sorry, to complicate things for you,” I said. “I know how strange it must be.”
“No, no, don’t be sorry. You have nothing to apologize for. It’s just a lot to take in. But, I mean, I’m sure you know that. I’m sure you’ve dealt with this reaction from other humans you’ve told.”
“Well, no,” I answered, “I’ve never told another human. It’s strictly forbidden.”
His eyes widened again. “Forbidden?”
“Yes, we’re not allowed to tell any humans about what we really are. And we’re especially not allowed to bring them back in to the village.”
“But… but then why are you telling me? Why did you bring me back here? I mean, I know the hospital was a ways away and all, but—”
“Actually, that’s not really what inspired me to bring you back here. I’m sure I could have found a way to get you to a human hospital had I tried.”
“Then… then what did inspire you?”
“It’s complicated,” but I might as well explain this part to him. I’d explained everything else, and there was no reason not to continue to give it all to him straight. “As you’ve discovered, we’re a different species from humans, and that means we operate much differently than humans biologically.”
“Okay… yeah, I guessed that. But what are you talking about exactly?”
“When humans look for their romantic life partner, they must date around until they meet someone who they deem worthy of spending their lives with, right? That is how it works for you?”
“Yes… isn’t that how it works for you?”
“Not quite. We do not date. We do not try to be with different people. We all have one predetermined mate out there for us. And, until we meet them, we do not explore anyone else romantically.”
“But… if you don’t date, how do you know when you meet them? How can you be sure they’re really the person for you if you’ve never dated anyone else?”
“Like I said, we are biologically different. When we meet our mate, we know it biologically. A primal, instinctual feeling bubbles up inside of us. We know instantly that we’ve met our mate, and we are instantaneously bonded.”
“You just… you just know? Instantly? And that feeling never fails?”
“No, never. There is no breaking up in our culture, there are no failed relationships, we stay with our mates for life. Usually from a rather young age, because, generally speaking, we meet our mates within our own tribes. I am actually quite old to still be single, because, despite meeting everyone in my tribe and even many men in other tribes—”
He cut me off. “Wait, other men? But if you don’t know who your mate is until you get that feeling and you never have romantic feelings prior, then how do you know it’ll be a man and not a woman?”
“Oh, because my species is entirely male. We all mate with other males.”
He burst out laughing for a second. “So not only are you a species of werewolves, you are a species of specifically gay werewolves.”
I had forgotten that, in his world, heterosexuality was the norm. I hadn’t even factored in that us being an all-male society would have been another weird part of all of this. Although, I was sure he would quickly grow to appreciate that fact.
“Yes, we’re gay. All of us. And meeting our mates is a very important part of our lives. It fulfills us. And I’ve wondered for so long why it seemed so hard for me to find my mate… but now I know.”
“You do?” he questioned. “Why?”
“Because, now I realize my mate was never in my tribe, my mate was never in any tribe. This entire time, my mate has been human…”
I could see in his eyes he was beginning to understand. But I still felt he needed to hear it come out of my mouth.
“My lifelong mate is you.”

Daniel
I didn’t think I’d ever felt such a whirlwind of emotions in my entire life. Everything I’d discovered in the last hour was already so much information, but, to hear this… to hear that I was this near-stranger’s soulmate.
But he didn’t feel like a stranger, not at all. And I should have thought he was crazy, but what he was saying would have also made so much sense.
It would have explained why I was so drawn to him, when I’d never been drawn to anyone else. And why just looking in to his eyes brought me so much comfort. It would explain this magnetic connection that otherwise seemed unexplainable…
And who was I to say that he was wrong? His species was different than mine. I think he knows how his own species works.
But, at the same time, this wasn’t how my species worked. This wasn’t how humans worked. Like he’d said, humans dated, humans met people, learned about them, and then decided whether or not they were in love with him. They were not just instantaneously in love.
Except… it kind of felt like I was right now.
“Has… does this ever happen in your species? That a werewolf falls in love with a human?”
“No,” he admitted, “I’ve never heard of it happening before. And, I’ll admit, that threw me for a loop. When I was out in the woods last night and I caught your scent, I knew it was the scent of my mate. I could feel that feeling in my chest that told me I’d met my mate. But when I saw you were human… I did doubt myself. But, seeing you now, I know there is nothing to doubt. You are my mate, I can feel it.”
I could feel my heart thumping in my chest. “And what does that feel like, exactly?”
He looked up thoughtfully for a moment, like he was trying to pick the exact right words to describe it.
“It’s like… it’s as if you’ve never felt joy quite like this before. It’s like, for the first time, everything in your life makes sense. You understand why everything in your life has led to this moment, and how this moment is the most important moment of your life. But it’s also really not, because every new moment with your mate will be the most important one. The first time you make love will be the most important one, and the day where you begin to grow your family, that will be the most important one. Each day will be more beautiful, and it’s as if the rest of your life is beginning. And you know you must protect this person at all costs, you must keep them safe because that is your responsibility now. They are the most important thing in your world. And that’s the real reason I didn’t take you to the hospital, because I felt I needed to protect you myself. I had to watch over you while you were hurt.”
He had taken my breath away. I didn’t know how to respond. That was just… the most beautiful thing anyone had ever said to me.
“I’m sorry,” he said suddenly when I didn’t answer, “it’s too much. I knew it was too much for you to hear as a human, when this isn’t how you feel about someone you just met, but I—”
I didn’t let him finish. I leaned across the bed, put my hand on his cheek, and then pushed my lips against his. It was just as magnetic as everything else had been. Kissing him sent a chill through me, it was electric.
I pulled away for a moment. “No… no, it was absolutely perfect,” I told him.
And without answering, he leaned in to kiss me again. This second kiss was less gentle, more forceful, more… passionate.
I was overcome with desire like I never had been before. I’d had a lot of sex, but never before had just one passionate kiss made me this horny. I can usually control myself but right now, I couldn’t. Right now, I wanted him so fucking badly that I couldn’t help myself.
I pulled my lips from his and leaned my head down close to his ear. “I want to fuck you.” It was the most forward I had ever been, I’d be lying if
I said I wasn’t nervous to do so but part of me didn’t care. I needed to have him. Even more importantly, I need him to have me.
He looked into my eyes, assessing me up and down, before he responded by taking his shirt off and grabbing me by the back of my head to pull me in for another kiss.
I let my hands explore his rigid stomach as our tongues danced with one another yet again.
I moved over to him, sitting on top of his lap as we continued to kiss. While I still straddled him, he reached down and grabbed my ass, holding me up as he rose to his feet. I instinctively wrapped my arms and legs around him. He whipped around and pinned me to the wall, taking my hands from around his neck and holding them up above my head.
He then stopped kissing me, but moved lower to start sucking at my neck. It made sense to me right now that he wasn’t human, right now he seemed part animal. He didn’t even seem like the same person anymore… and I loved it.
I was wearing the same button down shirt that I had been the other night which he didn’t hesitate to rip off, even flinging a button or two across the room.
He began to slurp against my neck before running his tongue slowly down my torso. I could feel my cock rising, able to do nothing but enjoy it as he had me pinned exactly the way he wanted me.
I groaned under the touch of his tongue, occasionally shouting when he let his teeth sink into my neck.
“God, you are so fucking hot!” I screamed at him.
He carried me from the wall by gripping my ass and threw me down against his bed again, on my stomach. He grabbed my jeans and yanked them off of me before dropping his own pants and boxers to the floor.
His throbbing erection was huge, it was far bigger than any man I’d been with prior. And i’d been with many.
He got low on the bed with me, his face rubbing gently against my ass cheek, before he opened his mouth against it and took a deep bite.
I screamed.
He pulled his mouth away from my ass and began to get in a position to mount me.
“You’re ready for this?” He asked as he spit on his cock head rubbed it down his shaft for lubrication.
“Yes.” I said submissively. “Take me, have me any way you want.”
Something about his animalistic nature just made me want to submit to him sexually. I wanted him to do whatever he wanted to me.
“I was planning on it.”
He reached around to my torso, sliding his hand down until he felt my cock. He grasped it and began to rub my shaft slowly.
“You’re pretty damn hard.” He observed.
“Because I fucking need you in me!”
He took the hint and placed the tip of his dick against my asshole, softly rubbing the tip before he plunged into me voraciously. I cried out at his entrance, I had never taken on a prick the size of his.
It stung slightly as he stretched me open, but I fucking loved it. All it did was add to the feeling that he was taking me, completely, exactly the way he wanted to.
“Alexander!” I cried out, “you’re stretching me!”
“And you love it.” He said seriously as he started ramming me harder, adjusting his hands over mine so he was holding me down from behind. Pleasure overcame me, his fullness inside me stimulated every nerve.
He moved my entire body as he humped at me, I shook against the bed underneath him.
He started to change his pace, pulling out slowly, almost completely, before thrusting in to the hilt. Each time he did, he struck a nerve from deep within me that I had never even felt before.
It caused me to gasp every fucking time. It was so early, but I already felt so close to orgasm. I had never had a sexual experience like this one before.
“Alexander, I’’m going to cum! I can’t take this anymore.”
“No, you’re not.” He whispered. “Not yet, you’re going to cum the right way.
He guided both my hands up above my head, making them touch so he could grab both wrists with one fist. He let the other hand slide underneath me, when he reached my cock he gripped it once again and started to rub furiously.
I wasn’t even screaming anymore, just making guttural and inhuman groaning.
“Now you’ll cum!” He started ramming me as quick as he could, his other hand still pleasuring my prick. He pushed me over the edge, and pleasure shot through me. My body began to tremble, my dick was shooting a sticky load all over his blanket and into his own hand.
My ecstasy must have sparked his own pleasure, because he also started to groan. I could feel him hump even more rapidly before reaching his own orgasm.
I could feel him shoot out his cum, it warming up the inside of me and spilling out around my edges.
He collapsed on top of me, but didn’t pull out. Our bodies were just a heap of sweat and skin, but I didn’t care. Any part of my mind that had the good sense to care was long gone.
We stayed this way for a few more minutes, until eventually calming down enough for our minds to clear. He slid off of me slowly, plopping down next to me on the bed.
“Holy shit.” I whispered to him.
“Good?” He asked. As if he didn’t already know.
“Amazing.”
It really was. What had I just gotten myself into? Who was this amazing, sexy, serious and stoic man who was a monster in bed? Why was I both so comforted by him and so excited?
I didn’t know yet, but I was determined to find out.

Alexander
My heart was filled with joy like I’d never known it could be.
Now this was how I’d expected to feel after I’d met my mate. Filled with happiness, filled with joy, filled with love… and the doubt no longer filled me.
All those questions I’d had before, wondering how he was going to feel since he was human and whether he was going to run for the hills, those questions had been answered. He did feel the same. Or, at least, he seemed to. I couldn’t guarantee he felt exactly as strongly as I did, though I didn’t care. He was human, it’d probably take longer for him to love me as I loved him, and I didn’t mind that one bit.
I still didn’t know what came next. Now that we’d both established our feelings for each other, how would we continue our relationship?
I mean, as werewolves, when we met our mate, we just automatically started living with them, bringing them into our daily lives.
But humans did not just move in with the people they loved. They liked to get to know them more. They wanted to establish that they were compatible before they started living together. Usually, they waited years.
Well, I certainly didn’t want to wait years. Especially with me living in the village and him living over an hour away in town. I didn’t know how to be okay with him being that far from me, unable to be protected by me.
But it was not my choice. I needed to do whatever he was most comfortable with. It was what I had to do. I felt obligated to give him everything he needed.
I had woken up before him, and I’d already washed some blueberries and strawberries for breakfast. They were sitting on the bed side table, available for whenever Daniel woke up.
He was still asleep, though. And I suppose that was understandable. We’d had a long night, talking well into the morning after our love making. Exactly like other werewolves did when they mated. We were just getting to know each other, and it was wonderful so far.
Even this was wonderful, watching him sleep. He was so handsome, and he looked so peaceful at rest. I could watch him sleep all day.
And maybe I’d have to, considering how late I’d kept him up. The human constitution was much weaker than a werewolf’s. Humans needed more food, more sleep, and could not push their bodies to the limits as much as werewolves could.
Knowing this didn’t bother me, though. I didn’t mind Daniel being weaker than me. If anything, it just drove me to want to protect him even more. It made me want to keep my human safe forever.
Slowly, he began to stir, and rolled over in bed to face m
e.
“Mmm… morning,” he groaned.
“Good morning,” I said, leaning over to give him a kiss on the head. I reached over to the bedside table and grabbed the bowl of fruit. “Hungry?”
“Oh, yes, please!” he said and quickly popped some blueberries in to his mouth. Like I’d said, I didn’t eat breakfast, so I didn’t bother with any for myself. But humans needed to eat more often.
“How are you feeling?” I asked. “How’s your head?”
“You know, it feels pretty good, actually. I think I’m less sore in general.”
“Good, you’re healing. You’re supposed to check in with our village doctor today.”
“Is he coming here?” he asked, as he grabbed a strawberry.
“I can ask him to, yes.”
“No!” he said quickly. “Don’t, please.”
“Don’t? Why not?”
“I want to leave the house today. I want to go see your village, if I can. I don’t mind walking to the doctor myself.”
I thought about this… would it be allowed? Obviously we weren’t supposed to have humans in the village, but that didn’t apply to mates, right? If he was my mate, eventually he was going to have to live here.
But I still hadn’t told anyone that I’d met my mate and that he was a human. This was the kind of thing I needed to go to the elders about. How was I supposed to explain this in the meantime?
Everyone would recognize that he didn’t live in the village immediately. As I said, everyone knows everyone. I could lie and say he was from another tribe, but I didn’t much like lying.
“I don’t think that’s a good idea just yet.”
The disappointment on his face was immediate and obvious, and it killed me to see. I wanted nothing more than to give him what he wanted. I hated there being any desire of his that I couldn’t fulfill.
I took his hand in mine. “Tomorrow. Tomorrow I’ll show you around the village. Today, when the doctor comes to see you, I’ll speak to one of the elders and explain our situation.”
