Bear Naked and Bite Marks

“You two are responsible for the drugs these kids are taking?”

He shook his head. “If they did the dose instructed to them they wouldn’t have OD’d. They’re all dumb, but then again they are junkies so you can’t really expect them to follow simple instructions.” He grabbed two wine glasses out of the cupboard and lifted them to her. “I have a nice dinner planned for us just as soon as Robert finishes this batch. After he heads out to give it to the distributors we are heading to Alaska. Robert has an isolated cabin there, and you and I can find our own place and start our lives together.” His grin was downright vicious. “No one will find you, Melissa. I have many plans for us, and I have all the time in the world to make you see that you love me just as much as I love you.”

“You two are sick fuckers.” Clearly her profanity and insults didn’t make his distorted pleasure wane. “I don’t love you, Manny, and I’m not in love with you. I never will be.” Sick dread settled inside of her, and she felt her pulse increase. She trusted Declan, knew without a doubt that he was already looking for her since she didn’t meet him at the restaurant, but she didn’t know if would get here in time.

  ****

Declan stood beside of Maverick, Trace, Link, and the Wylde brothers. Other shifters in town offered to come, but he needed a small unit to do this. A lynch mob could backfire, have these assholes doing something drastic, and when someone was in duress they fucked up. They had his mate, and he needed to do this the smart way so he could get Melissa out safely. After Maverick had left Declan had found the address of a cabin that was under the Martin family name. Robert’s name was listed on the legal documents. Declan had found out that Robert had been living in the cabin twenty miles from town and deep within the Sweet Water Mountains for a while now, but had kept a low profile. Right now they were right outside the cabin, hidden amongst the trees as they scoped out the small building and the land around it. The lights were on, and the scent of chemicals was far too faint for humans to detect, but had shifters smelling them instantly.

“There’s movement behind the drapes.” Declan gritted out and felt his bear ripple beneath his skin and te thought he knew his mate was in there with those motherfuckers. The scent of her lingered in the air around the cabin, and it was taking everything inside of him not to tear through the front door and shoot both Manny and Robert right between the eyes. When he couldn’t get a hold of Melissa after she hadn’t shown up at the restaurant he had acted instantly. He hadn’t even known if something had happened to her, but his bear had felt uneasy and itchy, and the mercenary in him had gone into action. Going back to her office showed her car sitting in the parking lot, her keys on the pavement, and the scent of her fear still in the air. But he pushed those memories away, because right now he needed a clear head to get the job done. “We are going to stick with the plan.” He looked over at Maverick, thankful that all of these males had dropped what they were doing to help bring down the males hurting Sweet Water, and deal with the threat that his mate was in. “I’ll take the back with Maverick, Link, and Trace. Charlie, Bram, and Ford move around to the front. We’ll come in the rear, and push them out of the front where you’ll be waiting.” The three Wylde brothers nodded in unison. Declan motioned for the other three to follow him. They moved stealthily through the trees and pressed themselves up against the side of the cabin. The scent of chemicals grew stronger, and he knew that they were most definitely cooking the drugs in this cabin. There was a window right beside them, and the curtain was partially opened. He leaned forward, saw Melissa tied to a chair, and nearly growled out loud. But before his animal took control he grabbed onto his strength. Letting out any kind of sound was a weakness and could alert others to his presence. He spotted Manny in the kitchen by the stove. The male’s mouth was moving, and he had this joyous expression on his face. Declan’s anger mounted even more at the fact this prick was trying to play house with Declan’s mate.

“Man, you have to get your shit together, or we won’t get your mate out of there safely.” Declan turned to Maverick and bared his teeth. “Think with the human part of you. Don’t let your animal get control until you want it to.” Declan knew Maverick was right, but it was damn hard. But once he was inside his animal was breaking the fuck free. Declan had never had a problem with keeping his shit together, but it was clear as day all bets were off when a mate was involved. He gave a tight nod and motioned for them to continue to follow him. Although Declan had been in some pretty heavy shit while in the SIL, this right here was the most important mission he had ever been in, and it was because Melissa was inside. They moved silently against the side of the house, and right when they saw the backdoor they slowed.

“Okay, get ready to take some fuckers down. I don’t know how many they have working for them, or if it’s just the two of them inside, but be prepared for anything.” Declan looked first at Maverick, then to Link, and finally stopped on the polar bear, Trace. These males were capable of handling themselves and getting the job done. That wasn’t even a question. “Ready?” All three males nodded. He grabbed his cell out, saw the text from Charlie that he and his brothers were positioned at the front, and knew it was time to get this shit done. Declan took point, gripped the door handle, and let his bear come out. Strength poured into him, and he tore the door clean off the hinges. The toxic smell of chemicals came at them like fucking bullets. His eyes watered, his skin burned, and he instantly became lightheaded. He saw Robert with a face mask on standing in front of a very scientific-looking chemistry set. Beakers, jars, bottles, cookers, and a bunch of other shit Declan knew was a setup for making drugs littered the tables around the compact room. For a second no one moved, and then Robert took off.

“Now.” Declan roared out and let his bear free. He didn’t concentrate on the men shifting behind him, just took off in his grizzly bear form toward Robert. He wouldn’t shift into his meerkat, because the only advantage he’d have was speed, and if Declan or any of the other males got to him then it was game over. Robert went through the door and tried to close it behind him, but Declan charged forward and slammed his body into it. He heard Robert grunt, felt the impact of knocking the other male on the ground, and roared out again.

The scent of Melissa filled his nose, and he zeroed in on her. He was now in the living room, Melissa only a few feet in front of him, and Manny standing in the kitchen with the scent of fear pounding from him like a drum. But he didn’t move, especially not when the Wylde brothers filed through the front door, still in their human forms but just as menacing. There was nowhere for either of these pricks to go. Maverick, Trace, and Link moved behind him, and he lowered his eyes to Robert, who was on the ground. He showed no emotion though. He tore off his face mask and snarled. If Declan could have laughed in his bear form he would have. The fact this fucker thought he was going to intimidate them was hilarious. But Robert surprised the hell out of him by standing and throwing his mask aside.

“You think you can come in here and fuck up everything I’ve worked for?” This time it was Robert who laughed, but it sounded maniacal.

“You stupid asshole.” Declan snapped his big head over to Melissa and growled low at the fact she was only instigating this fucker’s anger. Now was not the time for her to cause a distraction or stir shit up. “I told you he would come for me, and if I wasn’t tied up right now I’d kick your ass myself.” There was a chorus of grunts behind him, and he knew the other males in the room knew exactly what it was like to know a determined female.

“You stupid fucking bitch.” Declan bared his teeth at Robert, but the meerkat was already charging toward Melissa. Declan lunged forward, but Robert was fast on his feet, far quicker than Declan’s massive bear, and he got to Melissa in record time. Robert brought his fist across the side of her head. Her pain and the smell of her blood filled his nose. A ferocious sound left him, but right when he would have tackled Robert a gunshot went off and Robert fell to the floor with a bullet to his head. Everything stilled
as he looked at Robert’s now lifeless body, and then swung his head to Manny. The other meerkat now stood right out of the kitchen, his arms outstretched, and the handgun in his shaky grasp.

“I told you not to touch her, Robert.” Manny spoke to himself, had his gaze trained on his brother, and he almost seemed like he was in some kind of trance. Slowly Manny turned toward Melissa, and everything in Declan tensed. “I just love you so much, Melissa, but if I can’t have you no one can.” Manny pointed the gun at Melissa, but before the Wylde bears could react Declan charged the few feet it took to get to Manny, threw himself on the male, and felt the searing pain as the gun went off and the bullet tore through his body. Rage and adrenalin pumped through his veins. Pressing his paws down on Manny’s chest and curling his claws into the other male’s shoulders, he leaned in and made a low, threatening sound. But there was no fear coming from the meerkat, just the cold, dead look of a psycho. But before his bear could deliver retribution hands latched onto his body and hauled him back.

“Declan, think about your mate. Get control of yourself.” Maverick’s voice of reason penetrated his anger, and he pushed the males away and went toward Melissa. Charlie and his brothers had untied her already. Trace and Link stood by Robert. Ford was watching Manny, and Maverick was on the phone, presumably calling the authorities. Declan kept his gaze on Melissa. Tears streamed down her cheeks, and then she was rushing toward him.

“Declan…” Her voice hitched as she looked at his gunshot wound. He wanted to tell her he was okay, that everything would be okay now, but he wasn’t in the right state of mind to shift back to his human side. “Declan.” She swallowed roughly and fell into his body, wrapped her arms as much as she could around him, and breathed out. “I was so scared when I saw you attack Manny and heard the gun go off. All I could think about was that I would never see you again.” The scent of her tears intensified. He wanted to hug her back, but instead he nuzzled her head with his. Nothing and no one would ever stop him from coming after his mate.

  Epilogue

  Six months later

Melissa moaned as Declan ran his tongue from her clit, down her cleft, swirled the muscle around her opening, and continued moving until he was between the cheeks of her bottom and licked at her anus. Before Declan no male had ever put his mouth on her back there, but even if they had Melissa knew it wouldn’t have felt this way. It wasn’t just that Declan knew how to touch her, stroke her, and lick her until she was begging for more. The fact they were mates, he was her protector and lover—even if he pissed her off more times than not—and that she loved him so deeply she sometimes felt lost in the feelings, had Melissa realizing over and over again that she hadn’t know what she was missing until he had come in her life. The males she had been involved with had been fillers, ones that had momentarily made her feel good, but as soon as they were gone there was this emptiness inside of her once again.

Declan squeezed and released her ass cheeks as he licked at her tight hole. Over and over he fucked her asshole, sucked on the tight ring of muscle, probed the hole, and then licked it all over again. He moved away slightly, but she still felt his warm breath over it. Glancing over her shoulder she watched as he stared at her back hole. And then he dove right in again. He spread her cheeks until the pain from her flesh stretching uncomfortably filled her. He was a madman as he ate out her asshole, and the wet, sloppy, suckling sounds of him doing just that filled her head like a drug until she was high from it. He moved his hand around her belly to tease her clit with his thumb, and then she was coming for the third time in the last hour. He was teasing her, no, torturing her, with every part of him until she was a liquid mess.

When her pleasure receded she fell to her side. Declan had already gotten off, but he had wanted her to come for him again. She sucked in a great lungful of air and felt beads of sweat trailing down her spine. Declan moved so he was facing her. Brushing a piece of hair from her forehead, he smiled at her and leaned in to kiss her on top of the head. The act was gentle, but she had learned a long time ago that Declan wasn’t just this overbearing and powerful grizzly bear. He was also this gentle giant. He was just as sweaty as she was, and she had to admit that rumpled, just had sex look was very good on him. But for as dirty as she had wanted it, with a bit of spanking, maybe some restraining, Declan had been overly soft with her. He moved his hand down her shoulder, over her waist, and across her abdomen. He started rubbing her slightly rounded belly. Melissa lifted her hand and ran it through his short dark hair. He wasn’t keeping it as short as he normally had it, and she had to admit she liked the longer length.

“I wasn’t too demanding, was I?” He continued to run his hand over her belly.

“Declan, I am only a few months along. Believe me, a little sex isn’t going to break me or hurt the baby.” He worried for no reason, but she found it endearing. “Believe me, women have been having sex while pregnant since before time was recorded.” That had him chuckling.

“Yeah, but I worry that I might … you know,” She lifted a brow in question. “I’m worried that I might hit the baby with my dick.” She threw her head back and started laughing. He grumbled something, and she tried to stop laughing.

“Declan, as big and long as you are, there is no possible way you can touch the baby with it.” She rolled onto her back, and he picked up her left hand and ran his thumb over her wedding ring. She watched him do it, and couldn’t help but smile. They had gotten married a few months back, and she had been lucky enough to get pregnant right away. But it wasn’t like she was getting younger, and from what Declan said he wanted several more. After everything with Manny things had gone surprisingly smooth. There were no hiccups in her and Declan’s relationship aside from the fact he was a very protective and possessive mate. But even if Manny hadn’t done that shit, she knew that was just the breed of male Declan was. But she wouldn’t have had it any other way, because for the first time in far longer than she even wanted to remember, she felt wanted for more than just a few hours. Yeah, Manny had claimed to love her, but the kind of love he had for her was the sick and twisted kind. Now he was going to spend the rest of his life in prison for everything that he and Robert had done, the lives they had taken, and everything else their sick minds had come up with. But that was a far better fate than what could have happened to him.

“I wish I could marry you all over again.” Declan’s deep voice drew her out of her thoughts. He pulled her close to his body, and she started to run her finger over the healed bullet scar that Manny had caused. Just thinking that she could have lost him had emotion clogging her throat and tears prickling behind her eyes. “Hey, now, no crying or feeling sad.” He kissed her on the forehead again, and she snuggled against him, resting her head right under his chin. “I love you, baby.”

“I love you, too.” She smoothed her hand over his thick bicep. “You can, you know.”

“I can what, baby?” He sounded drowsy, and she didn’t have to look at him to know he had his eyes closed and he was minutes away from falling asleep.

“Marry me again. It’s called renewing your vows.” His body lightly shook from his laughter. “But if you want to do all that I think I’ll want the big wedding each time.” She leaned back to look at his face. His grin was big.

“Baby, you can have anything you want.”

She smiled and rested her head on his chest once again. They lay there in silence, but nothing needed to be said. Since getting married by the Justice of Peace, they had had a small reception with their closest friends and family. Well, they were mainly Melissa’s guests, but everyone loved her grumpy grizzly bear. Her house was where they called home, since it was bigger than Declan’s one room cabin, but right now it suited them. But it was only so big, and if he wanted as many kids as he said, then they would definitely need a place big enough to fit a small baseball team.

“I’d be careful about saying that to a female.”

He chuckled again. Declan may still do the work that ha
d initially brought him to Sweet Water, but he didn’t travel, didn’t hurt people, and only took cases that required him to have the offenders judged by a court of law. Had that been her decision? No, she didn’t tell him what to do or demand that he change. She didn’t want him hurting anyone, didn’t want him getting harmed in the process, but she hadn’t needed to say any of that because he had told her what his plans were, and they had suited her just fine.. She had grown to love him as he was, mercenary and all. It had been Declan’s decision to do less high profile, dangerous cases, and she loved him even more for that because he was thinking about the family they were creating.

“You regretting being tied down to me yet?” She couldn’t help but grin like a damn fool. He was teasing of course, but that didn’t stop her from pushing up so she could brace her upper body on her elbow, and stare him right in the eyes.

“Never. I just wish I would have met you years ago, and then I wouldn’t have had to go through all the bullshit to finally get my happily ever after.” Declan pulled her into his chest, and they settled back on the bed. And that was where they stayed until sleep was too hard for her to fight, and she was slipping into the protective warmth and security that only Declan could provide.
