Kane Evans’ family is not rich with wealth but in love and family. However, he has a way with women. His hot and sexy body is maintained by working out and doing the construction he loves. He spends the weekend nights out with his buddies and Sundays are always reserved for family time. Tattoos, black scruff and brown eyes make him look tougher than he is when inside he has the heart of gold and immense love for his family and friends.
Brianna Daniels’ family owns the best consulting firm and they are on top of the market in their expertise. Expanding their business, they are constructing a new building off the gulf of Florida. Her job is to oversee the construction and ensure the deadline is met for completion but must also maintain her clients who will be housed in the building. At twenty-two, not only is Bria one of the richest women for her age but one of the most beautiful. She doesn’t have time for men because she is all about succeeding and making her family proud. Something she’s been trying to do all her life.
What happens when you put a hot and sexy construction worker who loves women with a rich and pretentious, beautiful woman who won’t give men the time of day? You get one hell of a cat and mouse chase.

I dedicate this book to Pam Burgess Averett, an avid reader who passed away, August 4, 2015. Pam messaged me in July 2014, telling me she’d found one of my books and after reading it, it inspired her to start reading again. After that, she devoured every book I’d written, messaging me each time telling me how she loved it, the emotions it put her through.
Pam, know you’ll always be missed and that you’ve brought me something special by letting me know you. I’m so honored that you loved my books as much as I have loved writing them. I hope one day I’ll get to meet you.
I dedicate this book to you for your love of my books and how special you are to me and so many others.
May God Bless you and keep you in his loving arms.
Chapter One
Kane
“Pop! Ma! What’s cookin’?” I head into the bar and take my usual seat at the end of the counter, right next to where all the hustle and bustle happens. Taren looks up from behind the counter, gives me her sweet smile and then walks over grabbing a beer and setting it down in front of me.
“Hey, Kane! How are you?” My smile stretches when I look down at her big round belly that’s carrying my niece and I look back up into her tired eyes.
“I’m good,” I reply, grabbing a handful of peanuts from the wooden bowl on the counter and popping them in my mouth. I give her my cheesy smile and she laughs, placing her hand on her stomach. “Why are you helping out?” I ask and look around the bar then back at her. “And where’s Brock?”
Taren leans her arms down on the counter and gives me a smile, one that shows me she’s thinking of him. “He went home to take a shower then he’ll be over. I’m just helping out until he gets here.”
I still can’t believe everything they went through to be together. I think back to the fire at the shack, the one we almost didn’t escape. We all could have died, but it was so worth it to see her so happy. It made us all stronger and our bond tighter than ever. Then there’s Caylan. He saved our lives and became part of our family. I chuckle internally thinking how hard it was for him to get through Irish’s thick skull that he was the guy for her. She’s always been so stubborn but I guess for a good reason. She’s had a pretty tough life and then she lost their baby. I even cried. I would never tell anyone I did that though. I do have an image to protect.
“So, how’d it go on the first day of the new job site? Brock was reeking when he got home. I hope you all are staying hydrated in this heat.” Taren reaches over and takes a peanut from the bowl and pops it in her mouth.
I squirm a little in my seat, thinking about the most beautiful woman walking into my life and onto the site this morning. Long legs stretch out of a Jag as dainty feet strapped in black high heels press down onto the ground. A well-manicured hand covers the top of the door, the sun shining on red polished long fingernails as a woman steps out. She turns her head, long dark black hair sweeping around her in the breeze. She pulls down her sunglasses with one hand. Dark brown eyes glow at me, full luscious red lips give me a smirk. She is so out of my league, yet I can’t help how my body reacted to her when I first saw her. Okay, I admit. I have no issue wanting just about any woman and I don’t do relationships. Life’s too short for that shit. But there’s something about her. Classy. Sophisticated. Those full lips. Long hair that I could wrap around my hand and pull hard. Those brown eyes that bore into my soul. I shake my head trying to get these thoughts outta there. Ain’t got time for that. I look into Taren’s eyes and smile, grabbing more peanuts. “It was really a good start. Got a lot done.”
“You must be starving, poor boy.”
I look over and see Mimi walking towards me with a plate filled with a huge burger, a stacks of fries and onion rings around it. She sets it down in front of me then places a stack of napkins and a ketchup bottle alongside. I look up into Mimi’s smiling face. “Thank you, Mimi. You always know what I love.” She gives me a wink and turns and walks off.
“Food. Ha.” Taren’s voice laughs as I take off the top bun and pick up the ketchup bottle, pouring an obscene amount over the lettuce and onion on top of the burger. “Ugh. You’re disgusting, Kane.” I look up and wink at her as she scrunches up her face. Her face changes suddenly, her eyes light up as a hand hits my back. Brock must be here.
“Where’s mine? God, I’m fucking starving!” I smile, picking up my burger, and give him my best “this is mine” look and sink my teeth into the best burger in the world. Taren opens her mouth to speak but stops quickly and walks away to help a customer down the counter.
“I didn’t forget you, son.” Mimi is magically in front of him, setting down a plate identical to mine with another bottle of ketchup as well as mustard. She knows I don’t share and who in the hell would put that gross yellow stuff on their food? I chew my mouthful as I watch h
er smile and pat him on the cheek, lovingly. Then I almost spit out my food when she smacks it lightly. “Now, when are you gonna make an honest woman of my Taren?” His eyes widen and he almost drops the mustard bottle. She pulls her hand back and folds her arms. “You love each other, are living together, and have a baby on the way, so you need to tie that knot. Soon.” His eyes shift to me quickly then to her. Everyone loves Mimi. She’s become like a grandmother to us and we respect her. He nods and she smiles. “Good. Now eat up. I’ll bring dessert when you’re done.” We both sit there and watch her walk away and through the swinging door to the kitchen.
“Guess she told you.” I smirk as I take another huge bite of my burger. I laugh as he leans over, pushing me with his shoulder then picks up his own, and gives me his cool glare.
“We ARE planning on getting married. We just wanted to wait until Taren felt better. We’ve, uh, actually been thinking of telling everyone soon though. Thought maybe in a few weeks. Just have everyone over to our house and have it in the backyard. You know, make it look nice with lights, rent a tent, that kind of stuff. I think she’s been talking to Irish about it.” He takes a big bite and chews. It takes a minute or two to get that down then he shrugs. “I’ve pretty much stayed out of it and just agree to everything she tells me. Lately it feels like the pregnancy has made her have mood swings. One minute she’s happy then the next she’s crying.”
“Damn, bro. See, this is why I just stay single. No fuss, no muss. I feel for ya.” I pick up my beer and take a long drawl then set it on the counter and eat some fries, drowning them in ketchup first.
He half turns on his stool, his burger in his hand. “No. It ain’t like that, Kane. Being with her is – everything and more. So every once in a while you have a disagreement or have to deal with hormones. It’s all worth it and the makeup sex?” Now he’s got my attention. “It’s more amazing than you could ever dream.” Hmmm. Maybe he’s got something there. I shake those thoughts right on outta my head quickly.
“I dunno, man. I like my space. Not having to do anything or be anywhere until I want to, if I want to at all. And seriously? Being with the same woman forever? What if you get tired of her or what if the amazing sex wears down after a while? Who wants that shit?” I take the last big bite of my burger, thinking how good I got it, when I hear his laughter. I turn my head and lower my brows in confusion. He just shakes his head as he puts his hand on my shoulder.
“Bro. You just don’t get it.”
He’s fucking right about that. I’ve seen it happen too many times, even lately. People have been falling in love so quickly. That’s great for them and all but not gonna happen to me. I have too much life to live. Hell, I’m only twenty-four. What do I need to settle down for when I’m so young? Do I want that someday? Of course I do, when I’m older. A lot older. Until then, I just want the no commitment, the plethora of women, and to be free. Still, I wonder….
By my third beer, I’m about ready to go home. Gotta get up early tomorrow.
“Well, hello there.”
I turn my head and ignore Brock’s eye roll. There stands a beautiful woman. Long blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and killer body. I slide off my stool and hit Brock on the arm and turn to her.
“Well, hello yourself, beautiful.”
I slide my arm around her thin waist as she looks up at me and smiles. She lets me lead her out of the bar. She guides me to her car and as she lifts her hand, she pushes the button on her key fob and the lights flash on her red sports car. That reminds me of something. I shake it off and smile as I open the door for her. “I’ll just follow you,” I tell her and wink as I close her door. Jogging to my truck, I have a smile on my face and my cock is already hard thinking about what we’ll be doing in a matter of minutes. Brock used to tell me I have an unhealthy, insatiable appetite, but I’m just a healthy man with sexual needs. Nothin’ wrong with that. I follow her, anxiousness building of what’s to come. She doesn’t live far, thank God! She pulls into an apartment complex, one that I pass frequently, and parks in front of one of the buildings. I’m quick to get out of my truck and get to her car in time to help her out. She gives me a smile as she takes my hand and leads me up the front steps and into the building. We stop and I cup her face, knowing I need to be upfront with her.
“You should know I don’t do commitments. But if everything is good, I do repeaters.” I smile.
Her lips turn up into a smile. “Thank fuck!”
Yep, we’re on the same page.
Her apartment is on the third floor, my cock is straining against my jeans, anxious to be inside her, as she opens her door. As soon as I close it behind me, her mouth is on mine, and her hands are rubbing my head. I love that. We begin walking towards a small hallway, removing each other’s clothes as we go. I’m assuming it’s her bedroom but women have taken me to strange rooms at their places so who knows. I don’t really care. By the time I get her bra off, we’re both half naked as we enter what appears to be her bedroom. We keep walking until her legs hit the bed and I gently push her down onto the mattress. My fingers fumble with the buttons on her jeans as hers release mine and pull down my zipper. My cock is more than happy when her hands wrap around it, twitching with excitement.
I lean over her. “Fuck!” I whisper in her ear as I nibble on her ear lobe.
I lean up long enough to remove my jeans, going commando as I normally do helps. I pull a condom out of my wallet, rip it open with my teeth and her eyes glisten as I sheath myself. I pull down on her jeans, bringing down her panties with them, and am inside her before she has a chance to move. Not giving her ample time to adjust to my length, I begin ramming into her. I can’t contain myself. My hands find her ample breasts as I close my eyes, relishing in the feel. Flashes of long dark hair enter my mind. Those brown eyes and that snarky mouth filters there and I open my eyes quickly. Blonde hair, blue eyes half-mast staring up at me.
Fuck! What the hell was that?
I refuse to let her get under my skin. I start moving faster, pounding into this blonde harder. I cover her lips with mine just as she begins to orgasm. I pump in and out fast, hard until my balls tighten and I come undone with her. I’m careful to collapse next to her, my arm thrown over her body. We lay there panting and trying to catch our breaths. I look up and see her alarm clock and know I need to get home and get some sleep. I roll off the bed and hear her sigh. Happens every time. They agree to no commitments but are disappointed when I leave. I don’t ever sleep with them – never spend the night. Too intimate and that would lead to them wanting to be with me all the time. The calls and texts would start, more than they normally do, and then I’d have to block their number. I hate that. I’m not heartless. I get dressed and lean over her and kiss her cheek. Her eyes tell me she doesn’t want me to leave.
“Night. Sweet dreams,” I whisper.
Her lips turn into a slight pout but quickly change to a smile. “You too,” she whispers.
Good. This one knows better. She may have to be a repeat. The sex was pretty damn good. I see her phone on the floor and pick it up. Her smile grows as I punch in my number. I throw it on the mattress beside her and walk out. Thank God I’ll get a decent night’s sleep tonight.
Morning comes and I feel great! Ready to take on the world. I don’t bother with a shower and go right to the gym. There’s nothing like a good workout before I go to Ma’s for breakfast. I’m pumping some iron and it feels so good. I love feeling the burn go through my arms, the blood flowing through my veins. Thinking back to last night, I’m wondering why that mysterious woman flashed in my head right at the time I was balls deep in someone else. Weird. Something about her though. I shake my head and try to concentrate. The gym isn’t very crowded. Not many come this early in the morning. Another reason why I do.
“Yo. Thought I’d find you here.”
Caylan’s voice breaks through my inner ramblings. I look in the mirror and smile. Caylan. Such a great guy. I really had wondered about him when we
first met. He’s freaking huge, large muscles, and those shoulders. Puts mine to shame. Damn. But he ended up saving Brock and me and taking care of Taren when we all thought we were done for. Couldn’t have a better friend. “Hey, bro! Missed you last night.” He picks up some weights and stands next to me and starts pumping.
His smile is huge as he looks at me in the mirror and winks. “Not what I hear. I heard you took off with another conquest.” He winks again and I let out a chuckle. He used to be like me, out with a different woman every night but then he fell hard for Irish. Can’t say I blame him even though I’ll never understand being with only one woman. He keeps trying to tell me that when you find the one, you know, and when you fall, you fall hard. Yeah, that ain’t gonna happen to me. Not for a long time. I work hard. I play harder. Ain’t got time for only one woman. You can call me what you want.
“Ha. Yeah, well, when you got it, you got it.” I wink back and laugh.
He shakes his head as we both continue our workout, his smile fades, and I know that he feels I should tone my lifestyle down. He’s told me that, more than once. I know he could be right but I love living the life, not having any strings, and I’m just not sure I could be with just one woman. I’ve done it this way since I was old enough to be with women. I’m not sure I can change. Not sure I want to.
We end up finishing our workouts and go our separate ways. I took a quick shower there and then headed over to Ma’s for breakfast. I can’t live without her breakfasts, especially since I can’t really cook. Without her cooking and Mimi’s at the bar, I’d starve to death. Guess I didn’t inherit Ma’s cooking skills, probably more like Pops. Come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever seen him cook a day in my life, maybe on the grill outside. After a great meal, I’m off to the site, ready to smash things there. The guys are already working when I show up. I love my guys. Most of the time, I don’t even need to say anything to them. Their work speaks for itself and they are always eager to do their jobs. I pull my truck up by the trailer and notice no red sports car anywhere. Thank goodness. For some reason, she messes with my head. I grab my hard hat, place it on my head, and climb down from my truck. Gonna be a nice day today. Hot as usual. I lean over the bed of my truck and open the toolbox, take out my tool belt, and wrap it around my waist.
