by Amy Robyn

I am sagging by the time we make our way upstairs following Emmy and her adorable daughter. She shows to our room, and I practically collapse on the bed as Emmy laughs.

“I will leave you guys to rest. See you in the morning.” She says before leaving the room. I sigh as I contemplate whether or not I have the strength to remove my clothes. We stopped in Idaho and bought me a few pairs of clothes since I had no choice but to leave all my belongings behind. It’s not as though I had many, to begin with but I still hated to see them go. It needs to look like I died in that attack. It will be difficult knowing my father and brothers will think I’m dead but it’s better than dragging them into this mess. It’s better if they think I’m dead even knowing how sad they will be.

Isaac strips my clothes off me and slides me into the comfortable bed. I watch as he removes his clothes and admire him even with my too heavy lids. The man has muscles on top of his muscles and my favorite past time is watching his muscles flex with he’s naked. He climbs in beside me and pulls me against him, and I nuzzle into his warmth. It only takes seconds for me to fall asleep.

  ***

I’m dreaming about his head between my legs lapping between my folds. I moan and grab his hair pulling him into me further, grinding against his stiffened tongue. This is no dream it’s too damn good to be just a dream. The man could win an Olympic medal at oral sex. I know I have no other experience to compare it to, but I do not need any to know he’s good.

“You taste even sweeter.” He growls against my clit causing a vibration that takes me closer to my peak. I do not understand his words; I’m too lost in the pleasure I’m receiving. His finger slides into me and my back arches off the bed. I love when any part of him is inside of me though I wish it were his cock. It seems to be the only thing that will help when I’m this aroused. I can feel my juices flowing down his tongue and the cheeks of my ass as I work myself against him with no shame. I want that orgasm I know he can give me. Every grunt and growl he vibrates against me sending me closer to the edge of oblivion.

“I need you inside of me.” I cry out as the emptiness becomes too much. His finger is good, but I need to feel him stretching me. I need the burn of his entry and the primal hunger I see on his face as he ruts in me like a beast. I need that beast right now. I tug his hair until he finally comes over me and thrusts into me without any preamble. I shout his name and maybe something else in my delirium of need.

“You’re warmer now. Un-fucking-believable.” He says in more of a growl than words. I have the beast tonight, and I have never been happier. I do something I have never done before. I push the heels of my feet into his ass.

“Fuck me,” I growl back in his ear. He isn’t the only beast in this bed tonight. He groans as he starts pounding into me. I close my eyes and revel in the feel of his complete possession. I want this more than I want my next breath. My desire cannot be contained tonight. I want him, wild, untamed. I want the side of him I have only glimpsed in times of wild abandon.

“Harder.” I dig my heels in deeper, and he starts pounding into me so hard that I must put my hands on the headboard to keep from sliding into it. He plunges deep and hard making my legs tremble, and my insides flutter.

“Yes,” I shout as my nails dig into his back and I allow myself to fall just as his teeth sink into my fleshy part of my breast. I scream as my body explodes into a million pieces only to be made whole again. My channel sucks his cock in fluttering quakes as I hold on to him like an anchor holding me to this earth. He groans, and I feel the warmth of his cum filling me, and it only intensifies the orgasm still trembling through me. I float as though my body is weightless, tethered only to him. He collapses to the side taking me with him as little after quakes still pulse through us in small intervals.

“You have made me the happiest man in the world.” He says as I drift.

“I’m happy too,” I say, but I am already sleeping again and do not hear his response.

  Chapter 13. Isaac

I wake up the next morning with a smile on my face. It is the most beautiful day; I can just feel it in my bones. I kiss the top of my beautiful mate’s head before climbing out of bed and dressing quickly. I do not want to wake her. Paige needs all the rest she can get after all the traveling we have done. I stare down at her beautiful face so peaceful in her slumber. I will never grow tired of watching her, feeling her, and loving her. She is my entire world. She carries my heart within her. Hell, she carries my very soul. I never want to live that cold existence again that I had for so many years. I had not realized then that I had lost all hope and without hope, there is nothing but bitterness in the world.

I finally turn from her and shut the door behind me quietly. I have no idea where William and the other men are, but I need to find them. It’s time to plan our next move. I know Paige will want to be a part of the discussion though she needs rest more than anything right now. She might be angry with me, but she will see reason when I explain everything to her. There is no time. The general could be formulating another attack as we speak and I need to protect my mate, now more than ever.

I make my way downstairs and hear voices coming from the kitchen. I find Drake and Emmy in here. Drake is holding the baby while Emmy cooks at the stove. Drake had been a sullen man for a long time after his best friend died by the hands of hunters. I was worried he wouldn’t want to live any longer. That is not the man I see before me. This man practically oozes happiness. I smile as I watch their banter. Gabriel walks in with his mate, Olivia. Gabriel, I have known a long time, nearly as long as I have known William. He is one stoic mother fucker, but when he looks at his mate, the animation appears on his face as he stares down at her. I can actually see the love he feels for her. He is stoic no more. I shake my head.

“Where is William?” I ask them, and they all turn to me at once.

“He’s getting the war room ready for our council meeting. Are you finally going to join us?” Gabriel asks with one brow arched. I shake my head before I think about it. Would it be such a terrible thing to be a part of what decisions are made for our kind? A month ago, I would have said no as I always have, but now I have Paige. I want to know the right decisions are being made that will impact our lives.

“Yes, I think I will,” I tell him, and Gabriel smiles a real genuine smile. I would never have thought him capable.

“Good. If you want you can go help William.” Gabriel says as he leans down and kisses his mate. I roll my eyes and turn and leave the room. It will be interesting being around all these mated men. I had never seen them so affectionate, and it’s almost nauseating though I’m sure they will feel the same way about my mate and me.

I find William in what is now being called the war room even though once it was a very large dining room. He’s looking over maps with a look of frustration. At the very end of the table is a fledgling typing away on a computer. He must be the hacker I have heard so much about since I got here. William looks up and gives me a small smile.

“It’s good to see you. I know you probably hate the crowded house, but we are glad to have your help.” William says, he isn’t wrong about me not liking crowds but with numbers is safety and I need that for my mate.

“We need to discuss what we are going to do about General Bendix,” I say, and he nods his head in understanding.

“Indeed, we do. The others will be joining us in just a moment.” He says as he pulls the map of Kansas out and spreads it across the table. The other men start filing into the room, and we all take our seats around the table.

“Are you ready to join our council finally?” William asks.

“I am,” I say, and he smiles before nodding his head.

“Sometimes it takes us finding our mate for us to remember what is truly important.” He says as he steeples his fingers in front of him. I think about what he just said. It wasn’t that I didn’t care about what happened to my fellow vampires, it’s that I had no emotional connections whatsoever. Now, I feel t
he comradery, and I want to help them in any way I can. I didn’t realize how close I was to lose my humanity until I met Paige.

“Yes, it does.” I smile over at William. I look around the table at the men sitting beside me and I know I’m in the right place. I need to be here. Maybe Paige will feel the same way, and we can have a house built close by so we’re here to help out.

“Now let’s get down to business. Terrance, what have you found?” Drake asks as he sits in the seat next to William.

“It looks like General Bendix is still at his house in Kansas. He hasn’t left for Washington yet, but it looks like he will be going there in a week. I think we need to strike while he’s in Kansas. It is less secure.” Terrance says as he pulls up the layouts of a home and projects it on the large screen above our heads. I stare up at the home where my enemy is, and I formulate a strategical plan. I lay it out for the men but before we can reach an agreement the door opens and Paige walks in, fury in every step she takes. Shit. Perhaps my plan to keep her out of this has backfired on me. I should have known she wouldn’t agree.

“Am I interrupting?” She glares over at me and I know I’m in for one hell of a fight. Instead of doing something foolish, I give her the information she missed. We lay out our plans to her and she gives insightful input. Pride swells within my chest. My mate is so smart and beautiful. I never should have left her out of this part of the planning.

“We will be part of the team, of course.” She says, and I shake my head.

“No, we will stay here,” I say in a stern voice.

“You promised that we would be going.” Her chin tips up, and that adorable line appears between her eyes.

“That was before I could hear our child’s heart beating,” I tell her, and her eyes widen. She places her hand on her flat belly.

“I couldn’t possibly be pregnant already.” She says though I can tell she isn’t at all certain of her words.

“You are. I could hear the rapid beat of his or her heart in the middle of the night.” I reach over and place my hand over her hand and listen to my child’s heart, even now it sounds like hummingbird’s wings.

“I hear it too. Congratulations.” William says with a smile.

“You’re in good hands here. We have a young vampire that was once a doctor. She is helping with the other pregnant women.” She sits back stunned for a moment and then squares her shoulders for a fight.

“I insist that we help train the men for this mission then.” She finally says, and William chuckles heartily.

“I was already thinking the same thing,” William says, and Paige relaxes back in her seat, and we go back to planning.

When the meeting is over, and the others leave the room, I pull Paige into my lap.

“Don’t be mad at me. I wanted you to rest after the long trip, and I knew we wouldn’t be going when I heard that beautiful sound last night.” I rub my hand across her stomach, and she sighs.

“I still need to be included. We’re a team now. I won’t have it any other way.” She says, and I tip her chin up, so our eyes meet.

“I agree. I just wanted to alleviate a burden from you, but I should have known better. I’m sorry sweetheart.” I kiss her lightly until her body relaxes against mine.

“I love you Isaac, and I really am happier than I have ever been. I finally feel like I’m in the right place at the right time.” I understand what she’s saying. I had been thinking the same thing when I agreed to be a part of the council.

“I want us to stay in Northridge and help. Would you be willing to settle here?” I ask, and she surprises me again.

“I was thinking the same thing, especially with a baby on the way. I’m not sure what to expect.” She frowns and I cup her cheek.

“We will figure it out. We have time.” I tell her before taking her mouth again. I may not have all the answers or have any idea how to be a father, but we will work it out together. She is my life, and this is where we were meant to be. We will meet each obstacle and overcome it as a team. My days as a recluse are over, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. I look forward to a future, full of love and happiness with the one woman who was meant to be mine. I cup her stomach. I also have everything I ever dreamed of having, love and a family.

  Epilogue: Thomas

I have been training nonstop for this mission. Isaac and Paige are tough as nails, but I understand why. We need to be prepared for anything. Some of the fledglings are well trained, so they were placed on my team. The only problem is that I’m not sure where their loyalties are. They could have been brainwashed by the doctor who kept them for so long. I’m not sure I can trust them and therein lies my problem. I’m supposed to trust my team implicitly. I should be able to trust that they have my back in any given situation and I’m not sure I can do that. I have talked to Michael about it, and all he said was to remain vigilant. Some advice that is.

We leave in two days for Kansas, and I am supposed to woo the general’s daughter into inviting me to dinner. I was never very good at talking to women. Sure, I have a pretty face, but I’m not sure I have pretty words. I have no idea what I’m supposed to say to her to make her interested in me. The others have given me advice though it seems they lack in the social necessities as well. It looks like I’m on my own. It looks like I will be entering the viper's nest alone and depending on men that I do not trust to help me. I’m so screwed.

Now Available: Unknown Tribe: Mason Chapter 1. Corrin

I was one of the few anthropologists chosen to find the new tribe. This tribe had been there for centuries and yet we are just learning about them. They were hidden in plain sight. Up in the mountains of Colorado. They have their own town and they had blended in with the rest of us. Only they do not allow outsiders to stay amongst them. We never would have thought anything of it if we hadn’t stumbled upon them. Dr. Rowden stopped for gas on their tribal lands. He asked what their tribe name was and was left with more questions than answers. They will not allow him back.

I was chosen among a few others of notable standings in our community, to go in and study them. To say I was surprised is an understatement in our male dominating field. I happily packed my bags and didn’t ask too many questions. I want to see this tribe through fresh eyes. I come to them without any preconceived notions. There are four of us crammed with equipment in the SUV we rented for the rough terrain. They all look at me as though I am inferior, but I do not let it bother me.

The road is long and windy but the view is spectacular. Large pines line the mountains surrounding us and waterfalls spill down the wide rocky outcroppings. The only thing that detracts from the beauty is the steep drop-off on the side of the road with no guardrails. I’m putting my life in the hands of the man driving and I have never been one to give a man that kind of control. It grates against every nerve in my body. I must keep taking deep breaths not to tell him to slow down.

I have been in this car for a few hours and I’m not sure how much more I can take. The man sharing the backseat with me keeps dozing off and I find his snoring disturbing. I guess it’s better than him staring at me with his mouth hanging open. I know I am a little unconventional to what they are used to. I have long blonde hair and light blue eyes. I usually wear my hair up in a tight bun but today it’s French braded in a tight knit. My niece says I look like her Barbie doll but I have far more curves than that. I usually down play my looks because it’s difficult for others to take me serious when I look sexy. I even wear large black framed glasses that are completely unneeded. I decided not to wear them for this adventure, which could be why the ape next to me keeps staring.

We turn off the main road and are now traveling up a large mountain. The car shakes waking the man next to me. I look over to see him staring at me again with his mouth open, again. I roll my eyes and look outside my window as we climb higher. My ears pop when I yawn and I feel slightly dizzy. All normal when climbing in altitude. I just wish I had brought some chewing gum. It helps from keep
ing your ears from popping so dramatically.

“We’re almost there.” The driver says. I should say Dr. Scott, he is one of the leading experts in my field, but I try not to humanize the men who didn’t want me on this voyage. To me they are just typical men who think a woman can’t do this job. It’s not like it’s the first time nor will it be the last. That doesn’t mean it doesn’t affect me. It does. So, he is the driver to me, nothing more. Dr. Fields is the leering buffoon next to me and the front passenger is Dr. Wilson. They are all capable of studying the new tribe, though, I think they will find that I am just as capable.

The SUV comes to a screeching halt around the bend. There is a vehicle blocking our way. It’s a large, red Tahoe and the man who climbs out of the vehicle is equally large. His long black hair hangs loosely down his back. His dark eyes seem to see right through you as he makes eye contact. A shiver races through me at the knowledge I see within those depths.

Dr. Scott steps out of the vehicle and we all follow his lead. The other men, because they do not want to be out done. Me I step out so I can hear what is being said.

“I told the last guy who came here. You’re not welcome here.” He says clearly. Language is obviously not going to be an obstacle. I do speak many languages but when dealing with a lost tribe it can be very different from any I have heard. I wonder how long they have spoken our language. I add it to the list of many questions to ask.

“We are sent by our government to study your culture.” Dr. Scott says. The large Native American huffs.

“You’re still not welcome.” He says before pulling out his phone. He places a call and all I hear is his side of the conversation.
