Heathens (Badlands Book 4) Page 10

“Nah, babe, you were fuckin perfect,” he took my hand and kissed the back of it.

“What did he mean by have me ready to roll out?”

“You’re coming with us,” he stated slowly.

What? I knows he’s not talking about their war.

“Ah, you’re funny, but I don’t think so.”

“Oh, you’ll be there,” he laughed.

“No I will not,” I objected with finality.

  “Okay, Blue,” he smirked.

I didn’t care what he said, I was not going with them to take down a city.

  Chapter Twenty-Two

  COBRA

  Adrenaline was running high.

Acolytes were fanned out moving towards the wall like a black, demonic tide, carrying the Sigil Of Baphomet with them.

We all sat in the Jeep waiting for our time to enter the city.

Romero and Cali were up front, I sat in-between Blue and Grimm. All with the exception of Blue ready to go tear shit up.

We were born for this shit.

Being ruthless killers was in our DNA. We’d been waiting on this fuckin day long enough. I had a fuck load of energy that needed an outlet.

My heart was racing so fuckin fast it felt like a bottle launcher getting ready to shoot out of my chest.

“Bryce in place?” I asked, wrapping my hands in fingerless gloves.

“Just dispatched our decoy,” Rome replied, listening in on a headset.

“Why do we need a decoy?” Blue whispered to me.

“That.” I pointed through the windshield to where the wall was, seeing the city guards rushing to find out what was going on.

“We had Bryce and a crew take out a weaker portion of the wall. The only good thing Vitus was able to help figure out.” I explained.

  “He’s here?”

  Damn.

Seeing her anxious expression I pulled her into my side. “You don’t gotta worry about him ever again, Blue.”

She looked at me with her big, beautiful fuckin eyes and nodded, trusting my words.

Fuck. She made my heart swell.

And she looked badass. Her hair in a braid similar to Cali’s, cargo shorts full of bullets, a knife holstered and a gun in her hand, I’d have to fuck her like this later.

Cuz there sure as shit was going to be a later.

Blue was going to pass her initiation and be back in my bed by sundown with her pussy on my face.

She kissed my cheek just as Rome said, “We gotta move.”

“Let’s go,” I said, taking hold of her hand.

  Chapter Twenty-Three

  BLUE

Oh, if my mother could see me now.

  This was chaos.

The five of us moved towards the wall where all hell had broken loose. Acolytes had pushed well past the guards using their own comrades as shields against a hail of bullets.

We jogged past at least eight dead already and four wounded being dragged back the way we came.

It took me a minute to realize a fresh wave was surrounding us, moving in a formation that would protect their king and queen, Rome and Cali, at all costs.

“Is there a plan?” I yelled aloud to anyone that could answer me.

“Yeah, kill any motherfucker that looks like a problem,” Romero called over his shoulder.

Because that really narrowed it down. We were attacking these people’s city, I’m positive everyone was a problem.

I hopped over a dead body, barely managing to keep my footing as we continued onward.

We approached the archway of The Kingdom and ran right through the wide open gates, dodging more bodies and people locked in struggle.

“Brace yourself, babe,” Cobra warned, dragging me behind a car as gun fire came from every direction.

“What the fuck did you drag me into!?” I yelled at him as a body with half its head smashed in landed near our feet.

“Cobra,” Romero called for him from the front of our tiny posse.

“Stay close to Cali, babe we’re going for city hall.”

Before I could object he dropped a fast kiss on my lips and then moved to Rome’s side.

“Ya ready?” Cali asked, slipping back beside me.

  Um no.

“I can do this,” I spoke aloud.

“That’s the spirit. Just stick with me, k?”

She flipped her long blonde braid over her shoulder as we set off again.

“Get ready,” Cali sang, dodging around the acolyte beside her as he took a hit to the chest.

I did the same leaping over him.

When we hit the main city I understood why they were saying get ready.

People were being dragged from their homes and slaughtered right in the street.

Screams of women, men, and children filled the air. Like Romero had said, if they were a problem they were handled, age nothing but a number.

Blood coated the sidewalk and pavement as acolytes went from house to house in terrifying formation.

Hearing tires screech, I dove out of the way as mail truck barreled into our little group, smashing into three acolytes .

I heard their bones crack as I hit the asphalt, hands stinging along with my knees.

Trying to get right back up, I barely missed being clobbered by a golf club an older man had decided to swing at me.

I ducked at the last second and It whizzed by my ear. By time I was on my feet Cali had her knife in the man’s gut, twisting it around in a circle before roughly pulled it back out.

Without even thinking of what I was doing, I had my gun aimed and fired at another man trying to rush her.

His head snapped back, his legs running for a second longer before getting the memo he was dead.

  The adrenaline rush was incredible.

I fired again at a female guard who’d overpowered one of the acolytes, getting her in the back.

She was flung off, landing at the feet of another, her head promptly being stomped in.

Up ahead, Romero, Grimm, and Cobra had a mesmerizing system where they worked together.

Cali flashed me a grin, grabbing my wrist with her bloody hand and pulling me alongside her to do the same.

  She was simply brilliant.

A bullet nicked her shoulder and aside from a sharp wince, the girl barely batted an eye.

When she swapped her blade for a bright pink gun I almost laughed.

I did my best to take out anyone that got to close to our group, slipping past an acolyte.

And that’s how we worked our way to the City hall.

Killing anyone who got in our way and covering each other’s backs.

There was Venom amongst us , fighting the good fight for once.

By the time we reached the large brick building it was clear this was going extremely well for the Savages.

The city had been hit from both sides at once. It wasn’t until just then that I realized just how extensive Romero’s reach was. This place never stood half a chance.

There wasn’t one of us not covered in blood, sweat, and dirt. My own chest was heaving so hard I thought I was going to have an asthma attack, and I didn’t have asthma.

Corpses littered the stairs, some no longer wholly intact. Acolytes surrounded the entrance and windows, not letting anyone out.

When they saw us they parted like the red sea so we could pass. I felt like royalty.

We marched up the steps and right into the building where cool air greeted us.

Blinking to adjust to the lighting change, I saw people on their knees lining the walls, cowering with their hands up in surrender.

I’d saw many in the streets doing the same but hadn’t paid much attention to them with the whole kill or be killed stuff going on.

Acolytes stood with their heads bowed keeping them all in check.

“What the fuck, Pixie?” Romero’s voice snapped me back to what was going on.

“Calm down, Rome. It’s just a flesh wound,” she sighed in exasperation.
>
“You’re not allowed to get fucking flesh wounds,” he mocked, dragging her into his arms to look over the rest of her.

Grimm shook his head and kept going. “I’ll be going to get, Frank,” he called over his shoulder.

“Come on, babe, we get to check for, Zane,” Cobra said, coming up beside me. I took the bloody hand and fell in step beside him, feeling the presence of two acolytes behind us.

“He’s here?” I asked, looking around the building.

“The prison is under this building, got a tip that’s where Tillie put him.”

That didn’t seem right to me.

“I thought Zane was a kid.”

“He is. Around five or six.”

Then why is he in a freaking prison?

“His mom has a lot of connections,” he answered my unspoken question. “It’s still a real fucked up thing to do,” he added, voicing my exact opinion on the matter.

“Poor kid,” I murmured. I felt even worse for him when we finally found our way to the lower level.

The smell had me wanting to go right back up the stairs.

“Jesus,” I coughed, covering my nose with my filthy arm.

“Don’t think Jesus had much to do with this, Blue.”

It smelled of feces, vomit, and death.

Passing multiple cells jam packed of people who’d withered into nothing, I understood why.

The lighting was dim and the air was chilled. If I didn’t already live in hell I’d swear we’d just found it.

Some of the remaining prisoners were naked, watching us with zombie-like expressions.

Turning down a narrow hall, we walked slowly to the end. When we got there we found three decapitated guards and a cell that had clearly housed a little boy.

“Looks like someone beat us to him,” Cobra mused, looking around.

“Vitus?” I questioned, kicking one of the guard’s limp hands.

“No, Bryce took Vitus before we breached the city.”

I didn’t feel anything from that omission but relief. More for Arlen than me, and all the other women Vitus had hurt.

“Why is this kid so important?”

“He’s to the Venom what Adelaide is to the Savages.

“They worked with us to get rid of Vitus, probably planning to steal the kid away the entire time.”

I looked from the cell to him in disbelief.

“If you knew that’s what was going to happen why did you let it?”

  “Because he’s like Rome was.”

Yeah, I had no idea what that meant. How could a five year old be anything like Romero?

I sighed, letting the subject rest for the time being. There wasn’t much I could do about it anyway.

He was silent for a minute before maneuvering so that I was in front of him and he was behind me, signaling for the two acolytes to leave.

“I didn’t tell you how proud I am of you. You’re fuckin perfect, Blue,” he softly said, sliding his hands around my waist.

“I certainly didn’t see this day ever coming,” I laughed, arching my ass back into him as he kissed my neck.

It was incredible the things he could make me feel with just a few words and feather light touch.

His hands moved downward, one cupping my pussy the other tugging on my shorts.

“We’re doing that here?” I breathed.

“You mean am I going to press you against those cell bars and bury my dick inside you, yes.” He dragged my bottoms and underwear off, kicking my legs apart.

“Cobra there’s,” my words ended on a gasp as he shoved two bloody fingers into my pussy.

“There are dead people all around us, your pussy is wet and my dick is hard,” he growled.

His fingers pumped inside me and he worked his jeans down to rest low on his hips.

“Hurry,” I whispered, grabbing hold of the iron bars for support.

I didn’t have to tell him twice, he removed his fingers and replaced it with thick dick, diving himself into me with one thrust.

I cried out, my hand clenching the cell door in front of me.

“You feel so good, Blue. Love everything about you,” he groaned, picking up his pace, hitting my G-spot in the process.

His words had my pussy growing wetter, my heart squeezing in my chest. “I love you, too,” I breathed.

He immediately pulled out, spun me around and wrapped my legs around his waist, slamming back inside me with a toe curling brutality.

“Say it again,” he demanded over my breathy moans.

“I love you,” I repeated, threading my fingers through his hair. The look on his face was something between adoration and possessiveness.

I pulled his mouth to mine, letting him consume me completely me.

Our bodies came together but it was our damaged souls that sparked and came alive.

  Epilogue One

  COBRA

  Centriole was ours.

Frank’s body was strung up right outside the entryway to show who’d won.

Rotting bodies lay in the street.

The acolytes had done another sweep and spared those worth sparing and killed off everyone else.

As for Vitus, he was that evening’s entertainment.

Zane, the kid, had really vanished without a trace.

Romero and Cali had made up, loud enough we all got to bear witness for a whole fuckin week.

Arlen forgave Grimmy the instant he brought her Frank’s hand, the key to Centriole, and her mother’s wedding ring. If that isn’t romantic, what is?

As for me and Blue? We were fuckin perfect.

Every day, we worked on helping one another heal a little more.

I let her in my head and while she couldn’t vanquish my demons, she knew how to soothe them.

I slept for longer than an hour when her arms were around me and her head was on my chest.

When shit got to be too much, I’d go to her and she’d sit in the playroom with me if need be; occasionally even joining in.

I was in love with the fuckin girl and hadn’t been ashamed to tell her that morning when my dick was in her mouth. Then again in the shower.

  We were Savaged and tamed.

  Hellfire and holy water.

  One broken, one lost.

  Together, completely fucking whole.

If she hadn’t shown back up when she did, I would have been a lost cause.

I had one motherfucker to thank.

He’d known from the very beginning that she was it for me. He made sure I was the one who brought her home.

As I stood beside him I couldn’t help but feel grateful.

“What really happened to Katya?” I asked, watching the acolytes lead Vitus out back.

“The night she left your room after you turned her down, I had a nice chat with her.

“Grimm finished it off. Last I knew, she and Isaac both met the same end.”

Watching Blue approach me, her fresh ink on her neck instantly made my dick hard. She got the inverted cross to show she was one of us, and for me to know she wasn’t going anywhere.

“Thank you,” I quietly told him and Grimm.

I was thanking them for more than just getting rid of Katya.

I was thanking them for saving my ass from years of abuse and making me second in command, giving me a family and two brothers who always had my back and never tried to change me.

Most importantly, I was thanking them for Blue.

The blue-haired girl had ended up saving me, and didn’t even know it.

  BLUE

  Thunder rumbled overhead.

Any second now, the coal black sky would unleash its torrential wrath.

I sat with my hand intertwined with Cobra’s, watching Vitus try to escape the semi-circle acolytes had formed around him.

They were softly chanting under their breath, the iron leviathan cross burning bright in the background.

Cali and Romero stood on one side of us, her head resting on his chest.
>
Arlen and Grimm were on the other, his hands cradling her tiny bump.

I heard their low keening a second before they were led into the clearing. Max and Toby, each guided by an acolyte.

Vitus saw them and tried to run again, but was shoved back.

A word was whispered and the beasts were unchained.

They launched themselves at him and shredded him into nothing.

With their jaws crunching bone, they ripped apart ligaments and limbs within seconds.

Vitus screamed until his throat was torn out.

Cheers went up around the yard as the hyenas devoured him.

I felt no pity for him.

  I knew this held significance.

I met Bryce’s gaze across the yard and gave him a thankful smile, then I looked up at the man beside me. He glanced down and winked.

  He was my home now.

  My redheaded heathen.

  Epilogue Two

  ROMERO

All’s fair in love and war.

Isn’t that how the saying goes?

Sometimes you have to use irrelevant people as pawns to set certain things in motion.

People like Tillie, Beth, Katya…fuck, even Noah and Tito came in handy in the long run.

I do have to say that Beth was the easiest target of the bunch. It didn’t take much convincing on Bryce’s end to get the wacked bitch to jump. He just had to wait in the shadows to make sure she went through with it.

Other times, you have to offer up a few sacrifices.

  Luther was one of many.

Vitus took a hit to his pride when Blue slipped right through his fingers.

I knew those motherfuckers would go straight to his front door.

That gave Cobra a head-start and the option to choose the best way to get his girl home.

I also lost a good handful of acolytes when the first wall went down, but I needed a decoy.

It worked accordingly by taking out half the Venom for me.

In the end, after a healthy bit of bloodshed, Centriole was mine.

“Hey.” A soft voice drew me back to the present as two arms slid around my waist.

I turned my head away from the various grave markers, and looked down at the gorgeous woman who had come up beside me.

I grinned at the perfectly round bump wedged between us. She swore this was going to be our last one. I didn’t fucking agree. I loved seeing her pregnant.
