“Ma’am, we got her stable. Let’s just pray for the best. I do have some good news. The baby is okay.”

“The baby?” Ashley and Petey said at the same time.

“Yes. Miss Little is about three weeks pregnant.”

Petey looked at his ringing cell phone.” I gotta take this call,” he said stepping away from Ashley and the doctor.

“What’s good, Rick? Give me some good news.”

“You can pick him up in an hour. He’ll be released then.”

“Thanks, Rick. No problem. That’s what I get paid for.”

“What did she say?” Petey asked Ashley when he returned back to her side. He hugged her tightly.

“She said I’ll be able to see her and a little while.”

“Good. I’m going to go pick up Supreme. I don’t know how he going to react when I tell him about Choice.”

“Kyree! What are you doing?” Choice asked as she walked up to Kyree.

“I’m playing,” Kyree said, twirling around in the snow.

Choice looked up to the sky. “It’s snowing, but why? It doesn’t snow here. It’s not supposed to. And why is it so foggy? What’s going on, Ky?” Choice asked as she looked up at the sky.

When she looked back down, Kyree was walking into the fog. Choice ran to catch up with Kyree, but it seemed like the faster she ran, the further Kyree would be.

“Ky, wait! I want to go with you. Don’t leave me! I’ll be lost without you!”

Kyree turned around and smiled. “No, you won’t. You’ll be fine. I love you. Now go back, Choice. I’m happy now. Kiss my nephew for me.”

Choice fell to her knees, crying as she watched Kyree disappear. Then everything went black.

Bear sat outside of the hospital. He was sitting a couple of houses down from Supreme’s house contemplating on going back in the house to spend some more time with Choice. When Petey had arrived, Bear watched Petey bring Choice out and put her in his car. He had followed them to the hospital. He wanted so badly to be able to go in the hospital to be by Choice’s bedside, but Bear knew that wouldn’t happen. So he put his seat back in his truck to relax while staring up at the hospital. He brought his hands up to his nose to smell them. Bear smiled. Choice’s scent was still on them. He stuck each of his fingers in his mouth, wanting to taste her again. Bear instantly got a hard-on as he pulled his dry bloody, shit smeared penis out of his pants. He thought of Choice as he masturbated.

When Supreme walked out the precinct, Petey was already waiting for him. Supreme was happy to see his fam.

“Get me away from this bitch. Somebody killed London and lil Quan, and them muthafuckas trying to blame that shit on me,” he said as he gave Petey some dap.

“Shit, I’m hungry as fuck. I can’t wait to get home and see Choice.”

Petey walked behind him slowly. Petey was at a loss for words, but he knew he had to tell him.

“Come on nigga, you walking slow as fuck,” Supreme yelled behind him.

“Man, where the fuck you going, Petey? I’m trying to go to the crib,” Supreme said as he watched Petey drive past his street.

“Man, I need to tell you something,” Petey looked over at Supreme.

“What’s up Pete? You can tell me anything. Why are you looking at me like that?” Supreme asked he wondered why they were at the hospital. He looked over at Petey.

“Pete, what’s up? Talk to me. Tell me why we’re here.”

Petey parked his car, then hopped out. Supreme did the same.

“Man, I did what you told me,” Petey said as he paced back in forth with his head down.

“What did I tell you to do?”

“I went to check on Choice.”

Supreme’s heart felt like it stopped beating. He knew what was going to come out of Petey’s mouth next and it took his breath away. As his breathing became shallow and his eyes became blurry, it became a little hard for him to see. Supreme bent over and threw up the food he had eaten yesterday. Petey sat back watching his cousin fall apart. There wasn’t nothing he could do about it. Supreme’s hands rested on his knees as he took deep breaths anticipating the words that was about to come out of Petey’s mouth next.

“What happened to Choice, Pete? Don’t tell me she’s gone. I won’t be able to take it,” Supreme said as he stood up. Tears fell from his eyes, and the sight broke Petey’s heart.

“When I got to your house, the door was wide open. I found Choice. She was lying naked in a pool of blood. Somebody raped her and beat her up. She’s in a coma, and she’s pregnant. The doctor said she’s three weeks, and the baby is okay.”

Petey walked over to his cousin and held him while he broke down crying in his arms.

“I’m going back to jail, Pete. I’m telling you that now. I’m killing everybody.”

When Supreme walked into Choice’s room and saw the condition she was in and the heart monitor she was hooked up to, his heart broke in a million pieces. Her room was dark and dreary, matching his mood.

“I’m so sorry, Choice. I wasn’t there for you and the baby when you needed me the most,” Supreme said, kissing her bruised face over and over before taking a seat at her bedside.

Supreme rested his head on one of her thighs as he silently cried. “Please don’t leave me. What am I going to do if you leave me...if you and our child leave me?”

That night Supreme didn’t get any sleep. He had so much shit on his mind he wouldn’t be able to sleep if he tried. Night went and morning came. Supreme ignored his growling stomach.

“David, baby,” Nana said as she walked in Choice’s room. “How are you holding up?” Nana asked as she and Supreme embraced.

  “I’m not doing good, Nana.”

“We just gotta pray she is going to be okay. Everything is going to be okay. This is in God’s hands.”

Nana walked over to Choice’s bed and introduced herself. She took Choice’s hand into hers.

“I’m sorry we have to meet under these circumstances,” Nana said as she looked Choice over. I can tell she’s a very beautiful girl, inside and out.”

“I’m so happy you’re here,” Supreme said to his Nana.

“Nana. I’m losing it,” Supreme said looking over at Choice.

“Yeah, your cousin called and told me. He was really shook up about it. He said you were even worse. So here I am. David. You need to eat something and get some rest. You look exhausted. How can you be any good to her when your stressed and tired. Go on home in get some rest. I’ll stay here with her until you return. Here are the keys to my car,” she said as she handed him her keys.

Nana turned the TV to her soaps and got comfortable on the couch. “I’m not taking no for an answer, so bye.”

Supreme rested his face in his hands. He was feeling so many emotions that were foreign to him.

“Nana, she’s pregnant. I just found out.”

“That’s even better. I have to spend time with her and my great grandchild, so bye. David. See you in a couple of hours.”

All Supreme could see was blood as he rode the streets of Miami. Muthafuckas was trying to test his gangsta so he was going to have to show ‘em how he got down. Supreme pulled up to Da Cage. Mark’s car was there. He wondered what Mark was doing there that early. Supreme walked in the warehouse.

“Damn, you here early ass fuck,” Supreme said when he noticed Mark at the bar.

“What’s up, fam?” Mark got up and greeted him.

“A whole bunch of shit. I got the pigs on my fuckin ass about this London murder. Then this shit with Choice.” Supreme shook his head.

“Yeah I heard. Petey let me know about the shit this morning. I had some flowers delivered to her room not too long ago.”

  “Thanks, fam. I appreciate it.”

“You know you my nigga, so whatever you trying to do I’m down with you a hundred percent.”

“Thanks fam. I just wanted to check on some shit
. I’m about to head back to the hospital. I don’t want to be away from Choice too long.”

“Yeah. I can feel it, get back up there to your shorty. Some niggas from Ohio coming through to have a dog fight. I got the bar stocked so everything is ready. When it’s over, I’m going to stop up at the hospital.”

“A’ight, and if you need me, you already know where to find me,” Supreme said as he gave Mark some dap then went to his office to get one of his guns he had in the safe.

He stopped at Miss Anne’s to get him something to eat then was back up at the hospital. When Supreme walked in Choice’s room, Petey, Ashley and Nana were all there. He was happy to see that there was so much love around her.

Choice’s room was nicely decorated with beautiful flowers and balloons bringing a little life to her room. Supreme sat down next to Choice’s bedside making small conversations with them. To be quite honest, he was happy when they all left. He wanted to be alone with Choice for a little while. They all left around nine, leaving him and Choice alone for a little while until Mark showed up. Supreme used that time to talk to her.

When Ashley arrived at the hospital the next evening, Supreme was sleep in the same spot he was sitting in when they were all there yesterday. She hated to have to wake him, but he looked so uncomfortable, and she knew he had to be starving.

  “Supreme,” Ashley whispered. “Supreme.”

“Yeah?” Supreme said as he lifted his head.

“You hungry? I know you’re uncomfortable. Go home and get some rest. Your truck is outside. Petey picked it up earlier,” Ashley, said handing him his keys. “And I had someone clean your house for you.”

“Thanks Ashley, I really appreciate it. But I don’t need any rest. I need to find out who the fuck did this shit to her.”

Supreme stood up in kissed Choice. “I love you, I’ll be back I promise,” he whispered in her ear. I have some stuff I have to take care of. Can you stay with her until I get back?”

“Of course I can,” Ashley said, taking a seat.

Supreme put his hand on Choice’s stomach before walking out of the room. Before Supreme left the hospital, he told the nurses no one was to go in Choice’s room besides him, Petey, Ashley, and his Nana.

Ashley sat at Choice’s bedside reading a magazine and making small talk with Choice.

“I can’t wait to find out what you having. We’re going to have fun shopping,” Ashley said as she looked up at Choice and smiled.

  Choice’s heart monitor flat lined.

  BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP

“Help! We need some help in here!” Ashley yelled as she got up and ran out the room.
