Hank grabbed a pastry and saluted Sally with it as he tagged behind.
“Looks like the population of End of the Line is about to increase by three,” Angelique said with a raised brow. She glanced at her belly and then Sally’s slight protrusion. “At least in the interim.”
Clay appeared from the kitchen where they’d busted a back entrance to the bakery. He was covered from head-to-toe with a fine layer of dirt and dust. Emphasis on fine. Sally couldn’t believe she woke up to that every morning.
“Hey, honey. I just ran into Hank and I guess he’s going to be around for a few days, so I thought I’d invite him to supper. He’ll be staying down at the cabins, but honey, he’s a worse cook than you. Do you mind?”
“Why, thank you, my love. Of course, I don’t mind. By the way, what are we having for dinner tonight?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. Surprise me. Take something out of the freezer. I’ll take it from there.” He bent down and kissed her soundly. “Thanks. Love you,” he said as he walked away.
“Love you more,” Sally called back.
“Do you think he’d give Dalton cooking classes?” Angelique asked. “And news flash—Hank is sticking around a few days? Hum… population heading up by one more, you think?”
Sally smiled. She decided to wait awhile before breaking the news about her last ultrasound visit.
