  Prologue

We all start life carried comfortably inside our mother’s womb for 7 to 9 months. Sometimes we come out sooner than anyone expects. Inside we enjoyed the state of safety, love, and care. When we are born, our parents continue to give those same things, but that’s not always the case.

A life of pain and suffering, brought about the birth of a female child, born human, or so everyone thought. Of that pain, we made a monumental discovery. The child was of supernatural descent, a Royal one to top it off.

My name is Shana Jenson. I am 17 years old, born to a hybrid mother who did not have the guts to raise me herself or teach me the things I would need. I found out this year that the family who had raised me were not my biological parents. They adopted me when I was only 3 hours old. Who keeps such a massive secret from their child? I am the long-lost granddaughter of a Royal Vampire and Werewolf couple. The supernatural world was nothing but a myth to me, until I fell headfirst into its darkness. On my journey to meet my grandparents, I end up facing many betrayals and finding new love. What happens when the one man you grew up with and treated as a friend betrays you?

Once every 4000 centuries, a pure blood vampire is born to the Dracula line. Having entered a coma as a human, I awoke a vampire. My powers have appeared, giving me access to my beast hidden deep inside, Now a pure blood and daughter to Dracula, the king of all vampires. My life may have begun out of pain, but one man keeps me from losing control and sending everyone to the depths of hell. One Alpha will fight to change it all.

What is the light at the end of my journey into the unknown world of dark shadows and secrets? My newfound love.

Chapter 1- Jolly Giant Neon Skittles

For once, the night was calm. The moon shined down on us from above. The sound of laughter filled the darkness from children who ran around the backyard enjoying the start of summer. As Lilly and I sat around the bonfire with our friends from school, reminiscing about our junior year and the fun we had.

"Shana, do you want to tell us exactly why you decided to prank the entire football team. Right before their big game against East Compton High School?"

"Hmm, well, what had happened was payback. Because a certain individual who shall remain nameless drew first blood. Girl, seeing them run out of the locker room resembling giant, neon pink and rainbow-colored skittles; was damn funny if you ask me."

“Lilly, do you honestly think they will remember? I mean, they get their heads knocked around a multitude of times.”

"Well, we are about to find out right now, Shana. Girl, if I were you, I would get up quickly and run." I turned around and looked over my shoulder while we were talking. And who do you think I saw? My best friend's brother and all his friends, strolling over to us. With their ever-growing smirks on those stupid faces. That grin has got to be his signature look; you never see him show any other feature on his face. Guess you could say, Sir. Smirk-a-lot thought he was god's gift to women, even though nobody wants him.

Before I could run, I heard his deep southern voice, “Shana, just where do you think you're going?”

“Um, do you want me to lie to you or tell the truth? Anywhere you’re not, so peace out.” When I tried darting away from him, Jackass quickly grabbed the back of my jacket. I guess he figured if he grabbed it, he could stop me from leaving. Yeah, that didn't stop me at all. Unzipping my jacket, it fell to the ground. And I made a beeline for the side of the front door.

As I rounded the corner of the house with Freddie hot on my heels, I didn't notice the strange group of men standing in the front yard. I came to a sudden halt, nearly running into the tallest, sexiest, godlike individual I had ever met. Thanks to the big Buffoon that rammed into me from behind, I almost became a permanent fixture of the courtyard.

If it had not been for this stranger standing in front of me, I would have planted myself in the dirt. "Young lady, are you okay?"

Before I could respond to Luther. Freddie pulled me behind him, “what are you doing here?”

“I am here on business to look for the parents or guardians of a girl that lives around here. Her name is Shana Jenson,” the stranger explained.

“Well, the girl you're looking for is right here, what do you want with me?” I stared in confusion.

“My name is Luther Abernathy, and the reason I am looking for you. Is because you are the long-lost granddaughter of Charlotte and Dean Emerson out of Kingston Falls.”

“Mr. Abernathy, can we continue this conversation in private, where prying ears can't hear us?”

“Sure, whatever you want to do is fine by me.”

Upon entering the house, we went to the living room, where we could talk in comfort. But my eyes got hit with a sight I wish I hadn't seen. “Oh my god, you two. I'm going to need bleach to clean my eyes out!”

I did not need to watch my brother in the middle of a romantic embrace. With his girlfriend on my new couch, “Damn it, Nick, what the hell, use your bedroom, you dumb- ass!” They jumped at the sound of my voice, causing them to break apart like kids caught at doing something wrong.

Nicky notices the strange man standing behind me as he tries to rearrange himself, “Shana, why is there a strange man standing behind you?”

“He says he has some information for me. As we have no parents here, I figured he should discuss it with me while you are present, that is if you can pull yourself from Callie and her tongue long enough.”

“Nick, this is Luther Abernathy; he is from Kingston Falls and that his employer sent him here to look for me. According to him, I am the missing granddaughter of this couple from there.”

“Mr. Abernathy, who exactly are they, and what do they want with me?” Curious to know who would be trying to look for me. As we all sat around the table, he filled us in on his mission.

“Shana, as I mentioned before, I was sent to find a young woman. We believe she is the lost granddaughter of Charlotte and Dean Emerson from Kingston Falls. Word came to them that their daughter had come to America and left behind a daughter.” I’m glad I do not have to travel all over the country to find her. The sooner this gets wrapped up the quicker I can get back to my family and my job. I have been away long enough.

Shana had asked me who my employer was. I can understand where she was coming from this is a whole new area for her; I would have done the same thing. So, I described what I could without revealing certain things; I did not have the power to tell her. “In my hometown, they are the rulers of our country, and they feel it is time for you to come home and claim your birthright.” They are not getting any younger and would love to see her.

Both Nick and I just stared at him. "You're telling us Shana comes from royalty?" Nick asked. With a peculiar look on his face while we sat there digesting all the recent information dropped on us. I wonder what the reason is behind my adoption, but I will never find out here. Nick's parents are not going to tell me, just like they get the fact that I was not their daughter from me.

I wonder where I go from here? Do I go alone or take Nick with me? Maybe a few of the girls with me? Yes, I know the people who raised me were not always there. But Nick and the girls have always had my back. It would be dif
ficult to leave and walk away from all of them. And everything that they have ever meant to me, everything that we went through growing up. My life is here, and I could not move regardless of what the cause is.

“Nick, did you know our parents are not my parents?” He scratches the back of his neck, swearing under his breath as he looks at me, nodding his head.

“Yea, Shana, I knew. I came across some papers one night before mom and dad took off on their extended vacation. These documents dealt with your adoption. They brought you home straight from the hospital when you were only a few hours old.”

“Nick, why didn't you or anyone tell me about this as I got older,” My shoulders shook, and my eyes misted over. We knew our parents treated me as nonexistent, but I never thought it was because of adoption. I just assumed they hated kids’ period.

Nick glanced down at his hands, clearing his throat as he nervously explained, "Shana, I didn't tell you because mom and dad should have been the ones to tell you. Yes, you're my sister no matter what, but something that big should have come from them. I did not want to be the one to up and break your heart like that. To end up being the reason you're in tears and hurting all the time. Yeah, I'm good on that, not for me, Hun."

Needing some time alone so I could come to terms with the fact Nick was my adopted brother and biological it tore me apart. He really was the only one in this family to show me any ounce of affection. I stood up to leave and heard Luther's phone ring; he answered, talking in a quiet voice. I could not make out what they discussed. But judging by the nervous look, it was not an easy call. He looks at me while speaking on the phone.

“Hello, Mrs. Emerson. Yes, she's sitting here beside me. We went over why you had sent me here looking for her. Are you sure that's what you want to do? What are you going to say if she tells you no way in hell? Yes, I will hand her the phone so you can talk to her.” I look at him like he has lost his ever-loving mind. Luther turned his body, my way to hand me the phone; I looked at him like he had grown two heads as he gave me the phone.

All I did was shake my head at him, "Come on, I don't even know these people. Why are you putting me on the phone with them?" He looked at me as if to tell me to humor them. I took the phone, “hello.”

A low quivering voice responded, “Is this Shana?”

  “Yes, it is,” I said.

I heard the harsh cracking voice of the woman as she cried silently, “I realize this may appear a little strange for you to hear from somebody you have never met before, but we're wondering if you would like to come for a visit? That way, we can address everything in person. Rather than going through the middleman, you can direct questions you have about everything that’s happened and get the answers you seek.”

While on the phone with her, an idea crossed my mind. And I said, "yes, as long as Nick and some of my friends can come with me," the woman on the other side said it was okay, which kind of surprised me. She told me to hand the phone back to Luther. So, they could make plans for the upcoming trip. I told Nick that I wanted him to come with me. But he declined, saying he had to stay here to take care of his dad's business while he is away. Well, it looks like I am the only one going to this strange place alone. I cannot wait to see what adventures await me in this unknown land and the people surrounding it.

“Okay, all you little kids, it is time to call it a night and get some sleep as we have to be up early to get ready to leave.” Everyone followed me up to the third floor, where I showed Luther and his friends to the guest rooms where they could sleep for the night. And myself, I will be sinking into a large tub filled with bubbles, and I bet you this girl here will raid dear daddy's liquor cabinet.

Chapter 2 – The Journey Begins

I laid curled up in bed snuggled deep in my blankets, I enjoyed the quietness of the early morning with no one running around. My thoughts ran rampant in my little world. It's not a good place to be, sometimes these images can be rather disturbing. Even though it seems scary to leave for an unknown place, at least I can finally get answers to the questions that continue to haunt my mind lately. I can smell the delicious, smoky fragrance of apple smoke bacon cooking. Time to get up and get this day started with many things to do before we have to leave. That thought alone sends me rolling out of my bed quickly.

Entering the massive walk-in bathroom that connects to my bedroom, I realize; this is my favorite place in the entire house. "Why?" you ask It's simple, not every bathroom has a massive size bathtub that you can fit a whole football squad that lets you sink in and surrounds you with bubbles from jets swirling around you. After doing what I need to do there, I make my way downstairs to grab breakfast.

Earlier experience taught me before: If I want to eat, I have to be quick, or Nick and his friends will eat everything in sight. If anyone saw how much they ate at one sitting, they'd wonder where it all went. I once asked Nick's friend Jason that and was told he's a fat man inside of a skinny body, shaking my head. I watched the scene unfold in front of me, you would think idiots surrounded me every day. 22- years- old and all of them running around having food fights and sticking ice cubes down each other's pants.

"Would you morons stop and grow up for once?" I yelled at the group of teenage dunderheads as the kitchen door squeaked. We all turned around at the sound from the doorway. Luther was standing by the door looking bored and asked if I had everything together so we could get started and head out to the airport.

Nick, realizing it was finally happening that I was leaving, came over and hugged me with tears in his eyes. Standing there wrapped in each other's arms, we heard the front door open. We paid no attention to the noise, thinking it was Luther going out to the car to put our stuff in the trunk. But it turns out Nick’s mom and dad came through the door. Guess they cut their trip short and came home sooner than expected. “Shana and Nick, what in the hell is going on here? Why are there strange men in our driveway standing around?”

“Would you believe it if I said they were aliens coming to take us to their leaders for continued studies?” I said rolling my eyes at them. “Why should you even care about what's going on, anyway? You're a good one for keeping secrets from people.”

Turning around and walking out the door, I felt like I could finally say goodbye to what I once perceived as my life. As I stepped outside, I found Luther leaning against an all-black Audi R8, talking to some of his friends. As I walked over and joined all of them, he asked if everything was ok and if I were ready to leave.

“Just open the door, Luther, and let's just go.” You can tell everyone around here knew what went on in front of them. but nobody seemed to care. Even my friends see I am leaving, and did not come up to tell me bye, or even asks what's going on. Well, damn, they didn't care about me as much as I thought; Real friends would see I was leaving and try to stop me.

Luther opens the door for me. I'm about to slide into the car when I heard Nick yelling for me. I turned to see what he wanted and saw him running down the driveway with his bags.

“Nick, where do you think you are going? I thought you said you had to stay and take care of your dad's business.” I cannot say it made me mad, Him changing his mind at the last minute, but hey at least I know he still cares about me enough to travel all the way with me to see my real family.

“Shana, there's been a slight change in plans, you've got an extra person going with you. Now that my father's back, there is no reason for me to stay and oversee the company. He can take care of the damn thing himself.”

“He always takes off for parts unknown and leaves it all up to me to do. Now it's my turn to do him, just as he does everyone else. You know I live by that golden rule, Right? Do unto others as they do unto you: Because to put it simply if I don't get away from here and all these ignorant people who don't even have the sense the good Lord gave to them; I'm going to purge every idiot around here,” Nick said. As he tossed his bag in the truck of Luther’s car.

“Well, let's get this show on the road now.” We al
l piled into the car and made our way to the airport. Luther drove the car we climbed in, as his buddies drove the remaining vehicles. I watched the scene unfold in front of us. All you could see for miles were black cars racing down the highway.

Nick, being the dumbass that he is, opened the window. Pulled his pants down, mooning every car that drove by in the lane beside us. I stood up, leaned over my seat, and smacked the back of his head. "Nick, for all you know, there could have been an undercover in one of those damn cars" I shook my head and laughed at him. I put my headphones in and turned on my favorite music artist, BTS. Some may think I am nuts for liking a group I can't understand, but their music moves me in a way that nothing else can.

We make it to the airport just in time to catch our plane. Thanks to my unknown grandparents, we have our private airplane. It's so spacious, reminding me of a mini apartment in the sky; We all have our bedrooms as well. The all-pink color scheme could use a bit of a change. I mean, for real, who wants to be caught, flying in a machine that looks like a monstrous bottle of Pepto. Ewe!

The other members sitting in the airplane cabin watch me with hidden amusement. I went over and took the black sharpie pen from Jay with a devilish grin on my face. The face of my brother was an open canvas waiting for me to create my masterpiece. On his left cheek leading to his mouth, I drew a penis, with the words I’m a loser who worships the porcelain god.

With my camera in hand, I snapped a few quick pictures posing behind him as I flashed my million-dollar smile, giving everyone my favorite salute, middle finger, and all. Jay and Luther came over, admiring my artwork. Laughing at the sight in front of me, I just had to know the truth "Shana, do you do this stuff to him all the time?". The massive smirk on her face was priceless as she nodded her head. I joined her as well, getting some pictures of a passed-out Nick, who was oblivious to the penis on his face. Payback is a dish best served cold!
