  “I love you, too.”

Later, as Derek slept beside her, Ginny stared at the ceiling, thinking of the past three years. She was a very lucky woman. Derek had been right. Their marriage had turned out much better than she had expected. Their love for each other seemed to grow with each passing month. They had few arguments, and those they did have, were solved through patience and compromise.

Midas Online Auctions continued to do well, and Innovative Designs had grown to a respectable design firm. Ginny had made Charlotte a partner last year. They both worked part time hours, preferring to spend more time with their families.

Sarah was a joy. She was a plump, happy little baby who was learning to sit up.

As Ginny had expected, Miranda was ambivalent about the “grandmother” role. She made dramatic appearances on birthdays and holidays, but for the most part, she left them alone, busy with her own social circle. Derek’s parents, on the other hand, were very much a part of Sarah’s life. Ginny couldn’t complain.

Phillip hadn’t been a problem at all. Miranda dumped him during their six month honeymoon, choosing to upgrade to a retired gem merchant who had been touring the Orient on the same cruise boat. Husband number six was named Walt. He liked to golf.

Ginny listened to Derek’s slow, steady breathing in the darkness. It was difficult to remember how she could have ever doubted him. She had everything she wanted, and more.

She rolled on her side to go back to sleep, and jostled the bed, waking Derek. He wrapped his arm around her. “Everything all right?” he asked sleepily.

  “Everything’s fine.”

I hope you liked Her Ex Next Door. I enjoy online auctions and often wonder at the stories behind the auctions. I start asking “what if” questions and a new plot is born.
