She quietly slipped through the bedroom door and went looking for Zoe. As she walked past the kitchen, she smelled coffee and knew where she was.
When she walked in Zoe, sitting at a snack bar, flashed her the widest smile she’d ever seen on those lips. “I’ve been waiting for you to wake up. How was it?”
She knew exactly what it was. Instead of answering right away, she went to the counter where the coffee maker resided and poured a cup of joe.
Zoe prodded, “Well? It sure must have been something for all the moans, groans and screaming I heard. I was tempted to barge in and get a look-see. Ya know, you kept me awake half the night. Every time I’d start to doze off, there’d be Becca or Dede, or whatever name you’re using, screaming from one of her ubiquitous orgasms.”
She sat in front and off to the side from Zoe. Her head rotated to her. She was giving her grief, but she was smiling. Purposely forming a mischievous smile of her own, she teased her back, “Well if you hadn’t tricked me into coming here, you could’ve had a full night of sleep.”
“Are you going to tell me how it was or do I have to quit?”
“If you do, you beautiful person, I won’t have to give you a fat bonus. Or would you rather have received a twenty percent raise?”
Her smile morphed into a grin. “You know I wouldn’t quit. You’d be lost without me. As for which I prefer, you pay me plenty good enough. The way I see it, I was just doing my job. But if you feel really generous, you could take me along on that romance author’s convention next month in Hawaii.”
She stood and hugged her friend. “It was great. Everything was great, and I owe it all to you.” She kissed her cheek. “I’ll tell you all the glorious details when we’re in Hawaii and I’m not in meetings or bed with Kevin and Vince.”
