As the kiss ended, Lio maneuvered his way between her knees. They shared a look, giving Kitty just enough time to notice the aroused gleam in his eye before he pounced.

Growling deep in his throat, Lio thrust himself inside. Kitty gasped, head lolling as she felt the male’s broad, heavy shaft fill her. Despite the narrowness of his tip, the girth of his cock increased so rapidly toward the base that she could hardly believe her own body’s ability to accommodate him. She squeezed down around him without even meaning to, legs rising to lock behind his hips.

Lio gave her only a few seconds to adjust, and then began to move. At first, his thrusts were merely steady, little more than a gentle, wavelike swaying of his hips. But as the seconds passed the air was increasingly filled by Kitty’s eager moans and the sloppy friction of their bodies. Lio responded accordingly, thrusting with greater energy and enthusiasm.

“That’s it!” Kitty whispered, staring up at him. She reached up through his mane, which hung about their faces like willow branches, and stroked his face. Her fingers trembled. “Just like that, babe!”

Lio paused mid-thrust, though he remembered himself and resumed an instant later. He grinned down at her, obviously pleased despite the lopsidedness of his smile.

“Babe?” he said, one brow lifting.

Kitty blushed, wishing she could melt into the bed. She pulled her hands from Lio’s face and folded them petulantly over her chest. Her nipples were distractingly stiff against her forearms.

“It’s just a name,” she muttered.

Laughing, Lio descended and began to cover her face with kisses. Kitty made a show of ignoring him, but soon the effort—combined with his continued efforts several feet lower—broke her resolve and brought a reluctant grin back.

“Stop that!” she said, swatting him on the shoulder. “Get back to work!”

  “Whatever you say, babe.”

Still chuckling, Lio arched his back to look her in the eye. The motion served double-duty as well, thrusting him slow and deep inside her. Kitty had a tough time maintaining eye contact, her body’s every instinct urging her to writhe against him.

At once, Lio’s rhythm changed. Rather than the rapid, forceful thrusts he’d used thus far, he now adopted a languid pace. Kitty clenched down immediately, shuddering with pleasure.

  “F-fuck, Lio!”

  “Don’t you mean babe?”

She swatted him again, glaring. The way her eyes had difficulty remaining open no doubt took away from the intended effect. Not that she could muster the energy to care; everything below her navel was a hazy sea of tingling pleasure—and a storm was coming.

“I didn’t bring you here to make fun.”

  “Then why did you?”

This time, it was Kitty’s turn to laugh. She propped herself up on her elbows, whimpering at the delightful way it changed the feeling of penetration, and kissed Lio deeply. As their lips parted, she nuzzled his nose softly with her own.

“You knocked me up, didn’t you?” she said. “Maybe I decided I want twins, after all.”

“You know that’s not how that works.”

“Bastard.” Growling, Kitty kissed him again. This time, she bit his lip and tugged it carefully for a moment. “Shut up and fuck me!”

The time for teasing had ended and Lio knew it. He grabbed Kitty’s wrists and pinned them forcefully to the bed. She inhaled sharply, staring up at him in anticipation as the Arsalian looked down at her with undisguised hunger. Anticipation tightened her insides, adding to the already substantial pleasure swirling within her.

With a lusty grunt, Lio gave in to his masculine instincts. His hips bucked powerfully, driving deep inside Kitty’s all-too-receptive pussy and unleashing a flurry of rough, furious thrusts. Gone was the tender playfulness; in its place was only the desperate rutting of animals in heat.

Kitty groaned, writhing beneath the onslaught. Her head swam, overwhelmed by the sheer intensity of their coupling. Juices leaked from her with each motion of Lio’s hips, leaking down her exposed rear. Normally, such a thing would have embarrassed her, but now she barely noticed. All she could think of was the ticklish feeling of Lio’s spines caressing her inside and the pressure on her clit as he hilted her with the impossibly girthy base of his shaft.

Within moments, Kitty felt herself sliding toward the point of no return. Her breath came in urgent gasps, fast and heavy enough to make her breasts sway without the chance to stop. She pulled her hands free of Lio’s and grasped them roughly, squeezing and frantically toying with her nipples. The extra stimulation made her eyes close, but she fought to keep them open nevertheless. She wanted to stare up at Lio, to savor every intimate moment as she watched his brow furrow with the telltale signs of his own impending orgasm.

“Do it, Lio!” Kitty had just enough time to gasp the words before a sudden burst of pleasure made her back arch. She squeaked, covering her mouth with a hand as she felt her climax erupt unexpectedly. Her insides squeezed down on his cock, anchoring her to the blissful sensation as the rest of her shuddered violently. She squirmed, aware of nothing but the white-hot pleasure and the feeling of Lio’s shaft pumping into her with an erratic rhythm far quicker than even her own rapid heartbeat.

With a deep, full-throated grunt, Lio came as well. He threw his head backward, mane rattling, as his hands dropped to Kitty’s hips, pulling them against him in an attempt to empty himself as deeply as possible. In that venture, success was a given. His cock throbbed like a second heartbeat inside her as he emptied himself into her depths.

They came down from their sex-highs around the same time. Kitty let out a breathy sigh, shuddering once as Lio slowly eased his thoroughly soaked member out of her equally drenched folds and sank onto the bed beside her. His breathing was slower, though his chest rose and fell far more dramatically than hers.

Groaning happily, Kitty squirmed close and rested her head against Lio’s chest.

“I forgot how nice it was to do it in a proper bed,” she said.

“There was a bed on the Vigilant.”

“You could hardly call that a bed.”

  “Fair enough.”

Chuckling, Lio rolled onto his side and wrapped an arm around her. His fingers gently traced her spine, making the hair on her neck stand on end. Kitty grimaced at the feeling of his slimy member pressing against her hip, but endured it as best she could. Chances to simply enjoy one another’s company were rare enough not to spoil one over something so petty.

“Do I make you happy?” she asked, before she had a chance to consider the wisdom of such a question.

Lio tensed suddenly and adjusted to look her in the eye. He was smiling, but there was a hint of concern in it.

“Of course,” he said. “You have to ask?”

  Kitty shrugged, suddenly self-conscious.

“Just wanted to be sure,” she said. Then she hesitated. “This baby doesn’t change that, right?”

Groaning, Lio pulled her into a firm hug. Face buried in her hair, he breathed deeply. Then he kissed her cheek.

“Kitty, I have never been happier.”

She nodded slightly, resting her cheek against his shoulder and closing her eyes. With the one arm she had available to wrap around him, she played with the tip of one of his mane’s dreadlocks.

“I’m glad it was you,” she said. “You’ll be a good father.”

“I’ll do my best. Pretty sure I’m not cut out to be a mother.”

Sighing, Kitty reached down and pinched his backside. Lio flinched, but there was so little there besides muscle she doubted he’d felt the slightest pain.

“I know the feeling,” she said.

“You’re going to be an amazing mother.”

She gave a dry laugh. “I doubt it. But, hey, look on the bright side—we’ve got a whole ship full of babysitters.”

Practically beaming, Kitty wriggled out from under Lio’s arm. Her lover continued to slumber, unaware that she’d left his sid
e. She watched him as she slipped on a fresh pair of panties and tiptoed to the door. Their lovemaking might have worn him out, but not her; she felt so energized it was only the desire not to wake him that kept her from dancing about the room.

She checked the bridge first. Lio was perfect and many other consorts were wonderful, as well. But, sometimes, there were conversations that required a bit of girl talk.

Unfortunately, the bridge was abandoned and Nita was nowhere to be found. Undeterred, Kitty glanced over the navigational displays to ensure they weren’t about to fly into a sun, then turned and headed for the second cabin.

  She knocked softly.

  “Nita? You awake?”

  There was no reply.

Kitty started to leave, then paused. It was irrational, bordering on paranoid. She knew that, and yet, the longer she stood there, the more she recognized she wouldn’t be able to talk herself out of the course her nagging doubts had already decided on.

There was no reason for it, but Kitty held her breath as she pressed her palm to the door’s external console and entered her override code. The door opened silently and it was only thanks to her withheld breath that she kept from shouting in surprise.

Nita crouched on the bed, red-faced and naked. Pressed against her from behind, Myorie grasped her hips in his webbed hands and bucked vigorously into her. He was silent as always, but Nita certainly wasn’t. She gasped and moaned as the Tritonian fucked her.

Neither had yet seen her and Kitty frantically tapped the close command. She continued holding her breath, as if to release it would give her away. And yet, just before the door slid closed, Kitty thought she caught a glimpse of Nita glancing in her direction.

She turned away, letting the air from her lungs in an instant, and trotted shakily back to the bridge. She seated herself on the captain’s seat and pretended the study the viewscreens before her. Slowly, as her shock faded, a smile asserted itself.

Nita and Myorie… there was no denying the pair made a natural couple. Both were quiet and thoughtful, yet capable of great feats when the opportunity presented itself. And if they made one another happy, what was there to complain about?

  Good for you, Nita.

The door to the bridge opened then and Nita crept in, clad in a thin robe and her brow still glistening with sweat. From the corner of her eye, Kitty could tell the woman was staring at her. She acknowledged her with a small nod then returned her attention to the viewscreens.

“You could have knocked,” Nita grumbled, flopping down in her usual seat.

Even embarrassment wasn’t enough to squash Kitty’s suppressed grin.

“I did,” she said. “Still. Sorry about that.”

  “It’s fine.”

  “So… Myorie, huh?”

To Kitty’s surprise, Nita barked a sudden laugh. She blushed, unwilling or unable to make eye contact as she nodded shyly. A wide, toothy smile lingered beneath her scarlet cheeks.

“Yeah,” she said. “You were right about him. He’s pretty wonderful.”

“I’m glad,” Kitty said, reclining. “You two deserve each other.”

  “You’re not mad?”

Kitty sat up, frowning. She stared at Nita in confusion. “Why would I be?”

“Well….” Nita shrugged, still avoiding her gaze. “He was yours. Is yours, I mean. So I know this can’t last forever. But—”

“Why not?” Kitty interrupted, grinning. She leaned over the edge of her chair in Nita’s direction. “Do you love him?”

Nita stared at her, open-mouthed and unable to muster a reply. Before she could collect herself, Kitty settled back into her seat and reclined once more.

“I love Lio,” she announced, practically giggling at the way the words sounded aloud. “I guess I always have, but now….”

A half-remembered mental note returned to her suddenly and Kitty leapt to her feet. All traces of amusement in her voice and on her face vanished.

  “Shit! I forgot!”

Urgently tapping a few commands onto her console, Kitty pulled up the diagnostics from the earlier scan. She gestured at them.

“Remember the damage to the life support? Nutrient controls and all that?”

  Nita nodded, face pale.

“Turns out our meals haven’t had the usual contraceptives.”

Somehow, Nita’s face went paler still. She rose slowly to her feet, resting shakily against the console in front of her.

“How…? Wait, do you mean you’re…?”

“Pregnant?” Kitty finished for her. She flashed a weak, anxious smile. “Yeah. Pretty damn sure.”

For a second, Nita simply stood there looking stunned. Then she moved silently to Kitty’s side, leaned against the back of her chair, and wrapped her arms around her in a gentle hug.

“Congratulations,” she whispered. There was a faint note of uncertainty in the way she said it.

  “Yeah,” Kitty said. “Thanks.”

All at once, Nita’s arms tensed against her shoulders.

“Wait! So what about Myorie? Does that mean we’ve…?”

Laughing, Kitty craned her neck to stare upside down at Nita. The dismay on the woman’s face was so transparent it made Kitty want to kiss her.

“Who knows? I’ve never heard of a human and a Tritonian conceiving, but…”

  “But?”

Kitty grinned. She reached up and clumsily cupped Nita’s cheek. The smooth, pale skin was unexpectedly hot against her fingers.

“There’s a first time for everything.”

“Can you believe this shit?” Kitty raged. She paced the bridge, snarling as she glared at the lengthy invoice displayed on one of the forward-facing viewscreens.

“Outrageous,” Nita said mildly. There was a hint of amusement in her tone that, in her current state, soared well over Kitty’s head.

“Thirty credits for the transfer tax! Eighty for import-export!”

  “Scandalous.”

“It’s a dress, not uranium! And why the fuck is there a V.A.T.? I’m not selling anything! I’m trying to give it back!”

  “Utterly ridiculous.”

“Right?” Kitty flopped into her seat, sighing. “I mean, it would almost be cheaper to fly back to Norfolk thanks to all the damn taxes.”

“Mmm,” Nita said. “Taxation is theft.”

Kitty straightened in her seat. Her face was passive, virtually emotionless apart from a slight creasing of her brow.

Nita watched, frowning as the seconds dragged on without any change in Kitty’s expression.

  “Kitty? Hey, you okay?”

Kitty rose woodenly, walked to Nita’s side, and kissed her full on the mouth without the slightest hesitation. Nita squeaked in surprise but did not pull away. In fact, she wore an almost stupefied grin when Kitty drew back at last.

  “You’re a genius,” Kitty said.

“Uh, thank you?” Rolling her eyes, Nita continued to smile. “Care to explain my own brilliance to me?”

“Nope. Now, get out. Time is money and I need to make a call.”

  ***

“You’re kidding, right?” Nita said. She stared at Kitty, utterly dumbfounded.

Kitty shook her head, arms folded as she glanced between her pilot and the assortment of maps and charted flight paths scattered across the bridge viewscreens.

“Nope. Completely serious. Take us in. We’ll land at the Satoshi’s private hanger.”

Nita rose to her feet, gesturing wildly in shock. She turned to Lio, but if she expected the Arsalian to second her protests, she was mistaken.

“You agree with this?” she demanded. “Lio, come on! This is exactly what happened last time, only now you won’t be there to save her!”

For a moment, Kitty’s instincts made her
want to leap forward and defend her plan. But that wouldn’t work here; she couldn’t be selfish any longer. If this was going to work, she needed the others—Lio, especially—to take ownership of the scheme, even if she kept a few key details to herself.

Fortunately, Lio was willing to do just that.

“It’ll work, Nita,” he said. “Just do as Kitty says. We’ll take care of the rest.”

Kitty noticed he had, perhaps unintentionally, adopted the same calmly confident pose she had. The sight made her want to smile, but she decided to study Nita’s reaction instead.

“This is crazy, Kitty,” Nita said, with an air of defeat. “This is a mistake. There has to be another way.”

Struck by a sudden sense of déjà vu, Kitty’s words stuck in her throat for a second. Then she smiled, shaking her head. For once, she didn’t have to fake the confidence she felt.

“Trust me, Nita,” she said. “It’ll work.”

For a long time, Nita said nothing. She simply stared at Kitty while a range of emotions danced across her face. Then she sighed, dropping heavily back into her seat.

“Aye, Skipper. Setting course for Adrastos.”

Kitty didn’t move. It was unusual—she couldn’t remember the last time she’d been on the bridge but not seated when the Feronia’s sub-light engines kicked in. But as the various displays began to reflect the mathematical details of space travel, she turned instead to Lio.

“It’ll work,” she whispered, just loudly enough for him to make out the words.

Lio nodded. Smiling, he reached over and touched her gently on the arm.

“It’s a good plan,” he said.

Taking a deep breath, Kitty leaned over and kissed him tenderly. She could feel her heart pounding high in her chest as their lips met, and told herself it was merely excitement at the intimacy. It was a lie, of course, but the good sort.

“Go check on the troops, would you?”

With a wink, rather than words, Lio bade her farewell and turned to obey. Kitty watched him until he vanished through the door to the bridge and then shakily took her seat. She watched the viewscreens intently, gripping the arms of her chair tightly as a small, unremarkable display flagged several vessels approaching from the planet.
