Baby Ivy was the star of the family and spoiled beyond reason by everyone as she wore a beguiling smile so much like her mother’s. She really is a happy baby.

Meena was considering applying for a Vice-Principal position at the school where she taught and Neema’s interior design business was soaring. And then Zaria could have sworn she’d seen Garcelle’s handsome younger brother, Paco Santos, briefly whispering in Kadina’s ear at a birthday dinner Garcelle had for their father, Carlos Santos. Her niece had found it hard to hide her blush as she walked away from the tall, slender and very handsome construction worker. Good luck with that, kiddos.
Cyrus had yet to return to Holtsville but his calls touting his desire to return home were often. We all miss him. That’s for sure.
Her friendships with Chanci and Hope felt more like normal as they accepted that the love of Kaleb and Zaria would beat the all the odds against a May/December relationship working. Plus, I love bragging about our sex life. Huh, those older men of theirs could never.
After making sure the kids were settled and focused more on their homework than their delicious snacks, Zaria went back out to the store. For the next hour, she focused on helping customers, ringing up purchases, and stocking shelves. She was outside cleaning the windows when there was a noticeable shift in the energy around her. When she turned, she wasn’t at all surprised to find Kaleb standing there. “Hey,” she said, reaching to brush straw from his silver hair with her fingertips.
“I thought we could all close up for the day and go home together,” he said, wiping the sweat from his brow with his forearm. “We’ll make homemade pizza and just chill out for the night.”
“Okay,” she said, pleasantly surprised by his offer.
Things were better between them as well. They both made the effort.
Kaleb was just as dedicated and working hard but he had settled into a balance where neither the farm nor his family felt neglected. Dinners as a family were the norm once more.
And our steamy nights.
“I’ll grab some peach ice cream for dessert. The kids love it,” she said as she turned to walk back into the store.
He stopped her with a hand slid into the waist of her jeans to back her body against his. She felt nothing but strength and smiled.
“All the sweetness I need I’ll get when we go to bed,” he whispered near her ear.
She shivered as she looked forward to the night to come...and the many nights they would share together in the future.
