It's Always Been You Page 10

by Max Hudson

Owen dropped his bag to the floor and looked at me with wide eyes. “Benji? What is all of this?”

I held out my hand to him and he walked toward me, his eyes still wide, his lips pressed together like he was holding back tears. He knew what this was, and I smiled as I pulled him close. I stared into his beautiful blue eyes and said, “Owen, I love you more than I have ever loved anyone. You own my heart and soul. I know what life is like without you and I don’t ever want to know that life again. I want to tie myself to you in every way that I can.”

I pulled the ring out of my pocket and got down on one knee. Owen was fighting back his tears, but it was a losing battle. He was a sap, even if he didn’t want to admit it. He was my tough guy and I loved him.

“Owen, will you be my husband?”

Owen sniffled as a tear fell from his face. “I’m saying yes, but when we tell this story to our children, you’re going to leave out the crying part! Or so help me Benji, I will take the kids and run away to London.”

I laughed and stood before I pulled him to me and kissed him. He sighed into my mouth before he pulled away. “Thank you for doing all of this. You could have done it in bed and I still would have said yes.”

“I know but I wanted this to be special. You know, for the kids we’re apparently having.”

Owen smiled and kissed me sweetly. “I love you Benji. Thank you, and I can’t wait to be your husband.”

And God, the way my heart sang.
