  As I clawed my way along, I unexpectedly felt of a large wooden surface mostly hidden in the shadows. I stopped breathing … and pulled out my dagger, making the fire trapped inside radiate with a torch-like glow.

  It was the transom, the back end of a ship, a ship which had been down there for a long, long time. Scraping along, I found the etching of the name and all thoughts were lost. It was the Kelshinua, the ship which bore my momma’s name.

  Suddenly I felt a violent surge in the water and turned. I saw it, the megladon with crossbow bolts still in one eye. Its mouth was open as it came straight at me at high speed, rolling for the bite …

  About the Author

  Of German-Irish-Cherokee descent, J P Nelson was born 11.10.1960 in Stuttgart, Germany to American Military parents. Although he wasn’t diagnosed until 1989, he was born with Tourette Syndrome, Dyslexia, OCD and ADD.

  Mr. Nelson was raised in an abusive home environment, not allowed to play sports or develop friendships and often called the Family Shame due to his (Tourette) tics.

  Mr. Nelson eventually found identity in martial arts and was recognized Shodan (1976), undefeated shoot-fighter (1983-1992), certified Founder of Kizoku-Ryu Kempo-Jutsu and Jiu Ling T’ai Chi Gong (1997), inducted into Sport Karate Living Legends Hall of Fame (2004), recognized Hanshi-Dai Soke of American Nine Lotus Association (2008), achieving the 10th Dan Black Belt level (2013). Mr. Nelson is also the first to teach T’ai Chi as P.E. in a North Carolina High School (2008-2010) and was featured in a story by the Associated Press (2009).

  As an adult, Mr. Nelson has worked such diverse jobs as factory production, Active Army (1982-1984), church youth director, bodyguard, pro-wrestler, restaurant manager, musician, has been married and divorced once. A member of the International Thespian Society, he has taught and choreographed stage combat and ran a dramatic club for over 20 years. Mr. Nelson has also volunteered time as a reading tutor, advocate for abused children in the legal system, and fund raising for various children’s charities … St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, in particular.

  Mr. Nelson opened the Family Self Defense Center of Hickory, NC in 2003 on a fulltime basis where he teaches Kempo-Jutsu, T’ai Chi Gong, MMA, beginning acoustic guitar and is a Certified Personal Trainer.
