The thought warmed her heart, with only a little bit of worry. Because loving people didn’t mean losing them, and allowing them to love you in return was the key to finding—and keeping—happiness.
“Where is Trevor?” Madison searched for their brother, who was supposed to be in charge of cueing the music.
“I believe he’s gotten distracted by Brooke.” Sophie pointed to the front row.
Their mother sat on one side of him. Trevor miraculously convinced Dev to let her attend, and Dev’s agreement shocked all of them, but then that’s what Dev did best. Brooke sat on Trevor’s other side.
Trev seemed mesmerized by the chateau’s manager.
“Who?”
“Brooke. The manager at Jolie. You’ll meet her at the reception. She’s awesome.” And out of Trevor’s league.
As Madison went to cue Trev to cue the music, Sophie turned to Wright. “A kiss before we take our places?”
“I thought you’d never ask.” He leaned down and pressed his mouth to hers, the tip of his tongue tickling the seam of her lips, a promise of things to come.
Desire and love, friendship, faithfulness, and so much more.
Not only tonight, but tomorrow and the day after that. Now she could look forward to the future rather than fear it, her arms open to welcome whatever the world brought her and cling tightly to those she loved most.
