Tori Centanni, who is sharp and low-key and just about the best con buddy you could ask for. It’s been fun reading along with her different urban fantasy series, and those books have pushed me to work harder on mine, too.

Curtis Chen, for politely laughing at my stupid jokes and scheduling occasional writer gatherings at convenient places where I can get to them.

The Futurescapes Writing Workshop, my critique group at Sundance in Utah, and all the GoFundMe donors who helped me get there. That entire experience—from the application to the fundraising and then the workshop itself—was new and challenging and ultimately something of a catalyst for my work. I was surprised by some skills I didn’t know I had, and others I was chagrined to realize needed more work. I am grateful to everyone who supported and interacted with me along that particular journey.

Scamper, for commiserating and celebrating and patiently listening to me whinge over direct messages. What are digital friends for?

Laurel Standley, a scientist and writer friend who continues to amaze me. You’re far away now, but our continued text exchanges have done a lot to help keep me sane this past year.

Mike, who was there. (<= That’s what he wanted me to say.)

Steven Novak, my cover artist who goes above and beyond and probably doesn’t charge enough.

Carrie Ann Mahmood, a reader who—in the aftermath of the horrible the-the typo on all of the series covers—wrote to reassure me that, “Your fans read your books for the tales not the grammar.” (I do try to nail the grammar, too.)

I’d also like to give public credit to some of the apps, products, and services that have supported, enabled, and sustained me over the course of this series:

  Manic Panic.

  Brain.fm.

  Scrivener.

  Vellum.

The Pomodoro Method, along with an actual tomato kitchen timer and the clock app on my phone.

WordKeeperAlpha and Jamie Todd Rubin’s Writing Tracker.

Trader Joe’s Original Irish Breakfast Tea.

Goldfish Cheddar Crackers, Whole Grain, in the giant box.

A Dakine Eve backpack, a TLS Mother Lode Weekender Convertible Junior travel backpack from eBags, and an Amazon Basics attaché that I messily decorated with fabric paint.

  Thanks!
