Maybe she should have held some of it back, but as his lips and tongue caressed her skin she knew he could handle it.
Chehon slid free from her body and she tried to repress the shiver of longing and the weird emptiness his separation had caused. Damn. Why had she gone there? She should have known better than to think she could walk away from this without pain. She lifted her chin as she watched him work on the last section of the cell. She wouldn’t let him see her cry. He didn’t deserve that. Guilt was never a tool she’d use against a man. After all he hadn’t made any promises. He’d only said he didn’t want her calling someone else with him there. Hell, it may have been more about his manly pride. But Chehon had mentioned thinking about her. His earlier erotic words had her closing her eyes on a moan. Maybe it was more than pride. But she wouldn’t push. When they left this job she would play it cool and casual.
Breeze opened her eyes as he finished off the last bar. He turned toward her, his hair waving out in the water around his head. In the low light she could see his wonderful smile. When Chehon held out his hand to her she didn’t refuse. Kicking her legs, she made her way to him and the ascended in each other’s arms, leaving a deeply sleeping beast behind in the depths.
Their heads broke through the top of the water and the spell that controlled their breathing dissipated. She sucked in deep gulps of air as if she’d been starved. Even though her body had been fine under the water, she never could wait to breathe the real stuff again.
The sun rode low on the horizon in vivid pinks and blues. Sea gulls soared in through the sky releasing their cries into the quiet morning. She released her hold on Chehon and started swimming for the shore. He kept pace beside her. As she trudged through the surf and onto the beach she was halted by a hand on her shoulder. She closed her eyes for a moment, not wanting to make this complicated. A fortifying breath entered her lungs and she turned, ready to brush the whole thing off if necessary. She wasn’t ready for the look of seriousness on his handsome face. Deep-blue eyes stared down into hers and she felt as if she couldn’t move. Her breaths became shallow as she waited for him to speak.
“Come home with me.”
Still not a promise of any sort, and the way her heart fluttered she had a feeling that would be a majorly bad idea. “Chehon, I—”
He kissed her hard and fierce. The whys died on her lips as she drank from his. Why did he have to make this so hard?
He pulled back. “Come home with me. I want to sleep with you in my arms.”
Her gaze dropped to his chest and she watched as the water drops rolled down his toned skin. “It’s not that easy. You know I have a few men I depend on for the job and—”
“What if you could have one man?”
Her gaze snapped back up to his. “What do you mean?”
He wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her to him. “I mean that I want to be the only name on that list.”
She couldn’t stop the smile that spread across her lips. “Well…the task can be pretty daunting. I mean, you might have to perform several times a night.”
He laughed a deep rich sound as he ground his pelvis against hers. She felt his erection proud and stiff against her lower belly.
“Breeze. I think I’m up for it.”
