by Heather Graham

Lauren hadn’t had to go to the hospital; she hadn’t been hit so hard. She would have been finished off once Gary had finished with Avalon.

There were so many reports to give.

And then somehow, they were back in the house.

  They showered. Long. And together.

And it was with water dripping around them, steam in the air, that they talked. They’d only known one another a week, but they both knew they couldn’t part. Avalon was confident that she could find work, whether it was acting or web design, anywhere. She’d follow Fin to DC, or anywhere else.

It was a long time before they rose that morning.

But in the afternoon, they took a drive. In Mississippi they went out to the Grimsby house.

They visited briefly with Robert Fryer, and then they went out to walk the grounds.

And they found General Grimsby, his son-in-law and Grimsby’s beautiful daughter.

They told them that they had been instrumental in solving the crime. If they hadn’t known about the trail, if the forensic team hadn’t found the medallion, they’d have never gotten to Houma and talked to the band... It was thanks to them they’d finally caught the killers.

For Avalon, it was a first. She watched the three loving family members hug and celebrate... And then, with the sun filtering through the trees, there was a flash of light...

And then nothing lingered except the feel of their love.

When they were gone, Fin turned to Avalon. “Beautiful.”

  “It was.”

  “And you, too, of course.”

  “Ah, flattery!”

He took her into his arms. “I was just thinking of the feeling. I love you...that deeply. That fiercely.”

And she smiled and assured him, “Into eternity.”

They lingered a moment for a truly tender kiss.

Then they turned. They had to get back to New Orleans. There were things to do. Friends to check on in the hospital.

  And more planning, of course.

Because life was beautiful, and they knew to be thankful for the lives that stretched out before them.
