— epilogue: adding to arya’s prayer —
“Joffrey. Cersei. Walder Frey. Meryn Trant. Tywin Lannister. The Red Woman. Beric Dondarrion. Thoros of Myr. Ilyn Payne. The Mountain. The Hound.”
—Arya Stark
* * *
Arya’s nightly ritual includes reciting a list of names of people that she plans to find and kill. During my interviews, I asked each person, not who they thought would successfully secure the crown (or, let’s be honest, survive) in Game of Thrones, but who, for themselves or their character, should be added to the list and become marked for death.
* * *
MAISIE WILLIAMS (ARYA STARK): Melisandre. Some of the other characters are almost admirable, even in their evil twisted ways—but I can see nothing redeeming in her character! Whatever she says her motivations are—I’m not buying it.
ROSE LESLIE (YGRITTE): It’s got to be Littlefinger. He’s the one who scares me the most. He’s more terrifying than Joffrey, who is just an evil little kid. He’s so clever and manipulative, and truly terrible.
CHARLES DANCE (TYWIN LANNISTER): Littlefinger. He has to go—he’s so oily. He’s like a gas that you can’t see or touch, but it gets into your respiratory system and you don’t know anything about it until it’s too late. He’s such a wonderfully Machiavellian character. I wouldn’t want to see him survive too long.
SIBEL KEKILLI (SHAE): Walder Frey. I hate him for killing everyone at the Red Wedding. I have a list! Kill him, kill him, that one’s got to go . . . I could go on. Roose Bolton is awful, and Shae wouldn’t be too happy that Littlefinger has Sansa now—he’s really, really dangerous. Sorry, Lena, I love you, but Cersei is the monster of it all for me.
DIANA RIGG (OLENNA TYRELL): No matter what they are doing, I’d rather keep everyone alive! I rather like the dynamics as they are.
ISAAC HEMPSTEAD-WRIGHT (BRAN STARK): I don’t trust Melisandre, but I’m not sure I’d want her dead—maybe just imprisoned somewhere in a dungeon. Ramsay Snow, the torture boy, for me I think.
JACOB ANDERSON (GREY WORM): I really wanted Joffrey to die, but I think I’m going to miss how much I loved hating him, that evil little bastard. But you know who should really die? Roose Bolton.
IAN MCELHINNEY (BARRISTAN SELMY): It would be an aberration, to put it mildly, if Cersei were to make it in the end, but I expect we’ll be stuck with her for a while.
PEDRO PASCAL (OBERYN MARTELL): As Oberyn, it’s delightful that Tywin goes down this season. As an audience member, I was thrilled to be able to watch Joffrey die, and then I met Jack [Gleeson] and he is the antithesis of his character. I sort of love Joffrey now, the character he’s portraying, the man he truly is.
LENA HEADEY (CERSEI LANNISTER): As Cersei, probably Margaery and Tyrion in equal measure. As me? Well, I was very happy when Craster was murdered, but I’m going to have to go with Stannis.
MICHAEL MCELHATTON (ROOSE BOLTON): I’m sort of at a loss now that Tywin’s gone, though I’m glad for Roose. But I’m going to have to go with Joffrey for my own self.
NATHALIE EMMANUEL (MISSANDEI): Cersei needs to get her comeuppance—even after everything with Joffrey, I feel like she’s owed some justice, definitely.
RICHARD DORMER (BERIC DONDARRION): Joffrey was a monster, but getting Catelyn killed? Walder Frey is just pure evil.
SOPHIE TURNER (SANSA STARK): As a character, I think that Daenerys is such a strong player in the game, she has to die for someone else to be able to come forward. As much as I love watching her, I think she’s the biggest threat.
EMILIA CLARKE (DAENERYS TARGARYEN): I know I don’t want Littlefinger on the throne, but Aidan Gillen is so good and his storyline is so interesting I don’t want him dead.
NIKOLAJ COSTER-WALDAU (JAIME LANNISTER): I would like to see the dragons killed. They are weapons of mass destruction. We can’t have that. Horrible, horrible, evil machines of death. I have a feeling they’ll probably make it, though.
PETER DINKLAGE (TYRION LANNISTER): We’ve lost some winners in that category this season. I’m going to have to go with Hot Pie, never trusted that kid. Roose Bolton will get his somehow, but you’ve got to watch out for Hot Pie.
