Onyx and Starr 2 Page 2

by Lady Lissa

My body is still tingling from the lovemaking Onyx and I just shared. It’s something about the way he touches me that always seems to send my heart into a rapid, beating frenzy. I can honestly say that I have never felt this way with any other boy I dated before. He’s not only my boyfriend and my lover but he’s my best friend in the whole world. Onyx and I have been friends for so long that it just seemed like the best thing for us to take it one step further. When I think about Onyx and making love to him or just spending time with him, my body quivers. I know that is a sure sign that he is definitely the man I love. I am definitely in love with him.

I make it inside the house and prepare to do my homework. Since we only have a week left of school, our teachers have been giving us less work to do. I smile as I think about school coming to a close. Next school year, I will be a junior. I am looking at my graduation ring on my right ring finger and Onyx’s graduation ring on my index finger and it makes me smile. The two of us have been through a lot over the years, but these past couple of months have been the best ever.

When Onyx first let his feelings for me be known, I was very skeptical about taking our friendship to that level. The two of us had been friends for way too long to let a relationship come between us, so I was very afraid of that next step. What if we tried it and it didn’t work out? How would we get our friendship back to where it used to be? I was so afraid that would be our downfall and come to find out, I had nothing to worry about. A relationship with Onyx is the best thing because he knows what I like, what I dislike, what makes me happy, how to cheer me up when I’m sad, he just knows everything there is to know about me and I know the same about him.

I would be lying if I said that his news about Mandy being pregnant didn’t rattle me a little. Of course that news had me on edge; at first. I know that Onyx would never lie to me and the fact that he told me the same day she told him, let’s me know he takes our relationship serious and that he’s not trying to hide anything from me.

“Hey honey,” my mom greets me when I walk in.

“Hey ma, how was your day?”

“It was good. How about you?”

“It was alright. One more week left of school,” I say excitedly.

“I know you’re happy about summer break,” she says smiling.

“Yea, but you know what I’m not too happy about?”

  “What?” she asks.

“Onyx leaving for college in the fall. We just started this relationship thing and I love him ma. How am I supposed to be without him? Like, he’s been my best friend and right next door to me since forever,” I say.

“Honey, I know that it’s gonna be hard for you to be without him while he’s away at school, but he will still be visiting on weekends. And the time will go by fast for you. You’re going into your senior year and you’re going to have so many activities; homecoming, spring fest, spring break, senior ditch day, just a whole bunch of things to occupy your mind,” she says trying to encourage me.

“I know mom but it won’t be the same without Onyx. I was looking forward to his graduation but now, not so much,” I say sadly.

“Have you mentioned your concerns to him?” she asks.

“They’re not really concerns mom. I just don’t want him to go,” I say.

“Honey, Onyx’s basketball talents are going to take him far. You may as well get used to him being away,” she says.

What the hell is she talking about? Onyx isn’t going anywhere but college, so what does she mean I need to get used to him being away?

“Ma, what are you talking about?”

“I mean, what if he gets drafted into the NBA? What if he goes pro; are you prepared for that?” she asks.

“I’m not sure because we haven’t really discussed him going pro. I don’t think he would pick up and leave me behind though,” I say.

Don’t get me wrong, I would be very happy if Onyx was chosen by one of the NBA teams. I know how hard he worked to get to where he is. I mean, how many athletes can say they received a full four year scholarship? How many athletes can say they had university coaches checking them out since their sophomore year? How many athletes can say that a famous former basketball player actually heard about them and came to see them play? When we saw him in the bleachers that night, we almost fell out. And after the game was over, he came over and introduced himself to Onyx and told him how much he was impressed with his performance.

I am very proud of Onyx. I haven’t lost my touch with basketball and still play for the team, but I haven’t had the luck he’s had. No famous professional basketball player came to see me. University coaches haven’t been scouting me since tenth grade. I do think that a coach or two may come to see me during my senior year and I hope that I will be lucky enough to get a scholarship. But if I don’t get an athletic scholarship, I am making sure that I will get an academic scholarship. My grades have been straight A’s with the exception of a couple of B’s in my sophomore year. I study extremely hard because I love getting good grades.

“I won’t say that he will pick up and leave you behind, but do you think if he gets offered a spot on a professional team, he’s going to turn it down?”

My mom is really beginning to piss me off. While I know she’s only telling me this because she cares about me, I don’t want to hear that right now. I don’t want to hear anything that has to do with Onyx leaving me. We just found this relationship and I’m not ready to let it go.

“Mom, I don’t know what he’s going to do, but sitting her discussing something that may never happen is a waste of time. He is here with me for the summer and that’s all I care to think about,” I say.

“Okay, I’ll just leave it alone.”

Finally, she agrees to stop speaking about my man in such a manner that makes me nervous and uncomfortable. My phone begins to ring and I look down at the caller ID. I don’t recognize the number but decide to answer the call anyway.

  “Hello,” I answer.

“Hey bitch! Did Onyx tell you that we having a baby?” Mandy asks into the phone.

Ugh! This bitch has lost her fucking mind calling me like this. I don’t want to alarm my mom or put my business out like this, so I leave the room. I head upstairs to my room and close the door.

“Why the fuck are you calling me?” I ask through clenched teeth. Oohh, I so despise this girl. She makes my blood boil just thinking of her and now that she’s on my phone, she really pisses me off.

“I just wanted to know if you broke up with my baby daddy yet?” she asks. Her voice sounds so confident, almost as if she knows Onyx is hers already.

“Broke up with your baby daddy? I’m not dating your baby’s daddy. My boyfriend is Onyx and we are still together. None of your little tactics that you’re taking to break us up are going to work,” I say with a small laugh.

“ONYX IS MY BABY’S DADDY! And you would want to break up with him because I am having this baby. He won’t have time for your ass once the baby comes, so you need to stop fooling yourself into thinking that the two of you can make it,” she says.

“You know what? For someone who is so confident that my man is going to leave me, you are really delusional. First of all, he already said the kid is not his and I believe him. Second, you need to find your real baby’s daddy and leave Onyx alone. What is it going to take for you to understand that he doesn’t want to be with you?” I don’t really want to talk to her but she needs to know that I’m not going anywhere. I won’t walk away from my man because this crazy bitch claims to be pregnant by him. I will admit that I was a little nervous when Onyx first mentioned this to me, but now I know better. This basic bitch is only trying to break us up.

“HE’S MY BABY’S DADDY AND YOU BETTER LEAVE HIM THE HELL ALONE OR ELSE!” she is screaming in the phone like a mad woman. I wonder how Onyx tolerated her the length of time they dated and messed around. She is crazy as fuck.

“Whatever. I think you need some professional help; like for real. Anyone that is going to try and tr
ap a man who don’t want her is crazy and needs some help,” I say.

“FUCK YOU BITCH! YOU AIN’T SHIT!”

“Okay cuckoo, fuck you too!” I say as I end the call. Man, this girl is crazy as hell.

I need to call Onyx and tell him about this phone all. I’m not scared of her or anything, but he needs to know how crazy this chick is.

“Hey baby,” he answers on the first ring.

“Babe, that chick is crazy as hell,” I say.

  “What happened?”

“She called my phone,” I say.

“Why did you answer her baby? You know she wasn’t calling to say hi or nothing like that,” he says.

“I didn’t know who was calling me,” I tell him.

  “What did she want?”

“She wanted to make sure that you and I were broken up since you’re her baby’s daddy and all,” I say.

“Man, that chick is crazy as fuck yo. I ain’t her fuckin’ baby daddy,” he says and I can tell he’s aggravated.

“Well I let her know that we have no intentions on breaking up and that I don’t believe her lies about you being her baby’s daddy,” I tell him.

“Thanks babe,” he says, which causes me to blush. I love it when he calls me babe, baby and my favorite, bae. It makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside when he uses terms of endearment towards me.

  “For what?” I ask him.

“For believing in me and sticking up for me.”

“Awww, that’s so sweet! You don’t need to thank me bae. I know what kind of man you are and I also know that with all the plans you have for your future, you would never get tied down to that crazy bitch,” I say.

“You got that right. My future is bright and the only women I see in it are you, my mom and my grandmothers. Y’all are the only women in my life that count,” he says.

“I love you too bae. Let me get off this phone and go back downstairs before my mom sends out the search party. I’m sure she’s wondering where I went,” I say.

“Okay, see you in the morning. I love you,” he says.

“I love you too,” I say before I end the call.

I head back downstairs to meet my mom.

  “Everything okay baby?” she asks.

  “Yea, it’s cool mom.”

“Are you sure? I didn’t mean to ear hustle, but your conversation upstairs seemed pretty heated,” she says, looking concerned.

  “No, it’s cool. It’s nothing I can’t handle,” I tell her.

“Okay. Just know that I’m here if you need to talk about anything,” she says.

  “Thanks mom,” I say.

“I’m gonna run upstairs and do my homework. Please call me when dinner is ready. I’m starving,” I say as I head upstairs.

I work on my homework for the next twenty minutes, thankful that my teachers didn’t give more than that. With only one week left of this school year, I just wish they would do away with all homework. I feel that we have done enough homework for the school year. If we aren’t passing, a couple of more days of homework is not going to make a difference.

The next morning, I wake up bright and early for my last tests of the school year. I text Onyx when I’m ready and he messages me back to meet him outside. I race down the stairs, anxious to see my man. I exit the house and head over to his house. He always drives his dad’s car to school but today, there is a beautiful black BMW sitting in the driveway with a huge blue bow on it. I am shocked by what I see because I know that car belongs to Onyx. His parents must have gotten it for him for his graduation present. I am so excited for him.

He comes outside and his smile is so huge.

“Can you believe this shit?” he asks, smiling brightly.

“Oh my God! It’s beautiful baby! I’m so happy for you!” I exclaim.

“My parents gave it to me early this morning. I was so surprised. I had no idea they were even thinking about getting me a car,” he says.

“Well it definitely is a beautiful car and you deserve it!” I say as I walk into his arms.

He hugs me tight and gives me a soft kiss on the lips. I am so happy for him. Onyx works really hard to please his parents and to get good grades. I know that he will go off to college and make them even more proud than they already are.

“So, hop in and I’ll drive you to school,” he says.

He takes the bow off the top and stuffs it in the backseat. He slips in the driver’s seat and starts up the car. The engine purrs to life. The car is an absolute dream; from the slick peanut butter leather seats to the Pioneer radio, compact disc player with a built in navigation system to the Bose speakers. This car has everything to make a person happy. I love it and it ain’t even mine.

As he is driving us towards the school, he is smiling like a proud peacock and I can’t say that I blame him. This car is one that anybody would want and his parents blessed him with it. He is so lucky. I can only hope that my parents will give me a car this nice when I graduate.

“This car is the bomb!” I say to him.

“Yea, it definitely is. I don’t know how my parents knew that I would love this car, but somehow they did know,” he says.

“Anybody in their right mind would love this car. Are you kidding me?”

  “I know right,” he says.

He pulls into the parking lot at the school and he leans over and kisses my lips. The kiss feels so good and it’s so hot.

“Now how am I going to be able to concentrate on school today after a kiss like that?” I ask as we break the kiss.

“You will do just fine. I just felt the need to let you know what you would be missing while you’re at school,” he says.

“It’s cool. I’ll more than make up for what I missed when I get back,” I say, grabbing him by the collar and planting another hot kiss on his lips.

“You better go before I drive off with you and you know you have exams today,” he says.

“I’m going. I love you,” I tell him.

“I love you too bae,” he says.

I slip out of the car and head inside the school after blowing him a kiss. Once inside, I go to my locker to get what I need for my first and second period classes. I head to my English class and get ready for my exam. When class is over, I smile because I know that I aced that test. I also ace my math exam and that makes for a great day. I hit up Onyx to let him know I aced both my tests and see what he’s got going on. His parents are throwing him a huge graduation party tomorrow night so I’m sure he’s out shopping for some new threads.

“Hey babe,” he answers on the second ring.

“Hey yourself. What are you doing?”

“Over here at the mall. I needed some new duds for tomorrow,” he says smiling.

“I knew it! I knew that’s where you were,” I say.

“It’s crazy how well you really do know me,” he says and I can hear him smiling in the background.

“Yea, well I’ve been knowing you long enough. But hey, guess what,” I say.

“Hmmmmm. You aced your exams,” he says.

Damn! It never seems to amaze me how well Onyx knows me and how well I know him. We were definitely meant for each other. You know how they say God has created someone for everyone? Well, he definitely created the two of us for each other and I couldn’t be happier with his choice of a man for me. Onyx is the best boyfriend he could have given me and I am so blessed to have him.

“Yep, both of them,” I answer with pride.

“I knew you would bae. You are so smart,” he says.

“Thanks baby,” I say, beaming with happiness from his compliments.

“Well look let me get back to class and I’ll see you when you come pick me up. I love you,” I coo into the phone.

“I love you too,” he says.

Once we hang up, I feel really good about our relationship. Onyx is definitely the man for me. He’s my one true love.

  CHAPTER THREE

  Mandy

What the hell is it going to
take for Onyx to leave that boring little Starr? Who the fuck does she think she is anyway? I told him that I was pregnant and he still wants nothing to do with me. What does she have that I don’t? We were happy once; very happy. Now, all he has eyes for is Starr’s bitch ass. I wonder what he would do if she wasn’t around anymore. I bet now he would give me the time of day.

I drove by his house this morning and saw the BMW with the huge blue bow on it. I was in total awe because he finally got his own car. Then I had to watch Miss Thing slide her stank ass in the front passenger seat. That boiled my guts because it should have been me riding shotgun with Onyx, not her. I wanted to run up the driveway and snatch her ass out of that front seat. I wanted to beat her ass down before slipping into the seat with Onyx. I was the one who had been with him this whole time. So how does she get to slip in there and act like he’s been her man all this time? I hate that fucking girl.

I followed Onyx to the mall and watch him going from store to store, trying on new clothes for the graduation ceremony, I guess. When he exits Macy’s, I “accidentally” bump into him as I pretend to look down at my cell phone.

  “Pffff,” I hear him sigh.

I look up into an exasperated Onyx. He’s breathing as if I’m so disgusting or something.

  “Oh hey,” I say.

He doesn’t say anything as he tries to go around me.

“Aren’t you going to say anything?” I ask.

  “Say what?” he asks.

“Something, anything. You can ask about the baby, about me. You can ask how we’re doing,” I say.

I mean, it wasn’t that long ago that he cared about me and now he walks around like he doesn’t give a fuck about me. How can he just throw his feelings for me away like that?

“Mandy please, you and I both know that you aren’t pregnant. I used a condom every single time we had sex so if you are pregnant, it ain’t mine,” he says.

Oh my God! What is it going to take for him to believe that I’m pregnant and he’s the dad? This is a way for us to get back together and instead of being happy about us having a baby, he’s acting as if I never told him I was pregnant.
