“What news? You forgot that I don’t have a working radio in that truck of mine. I never got around to replacing that portable transistor one I screwed up by leaving the batteries in it I was using when the main one went out.” Dennis said a bit exasperated but very attentive.
“Oh I am sorry; I did forget you had that problem. You should have carried that one you got in your office.” His mom declared.
“I forgot it, I never even thought about until I got to the edge of town what with loading up and remembering all the rest of the stuff I was hauling with me. What did you hear? They finally tell us who did this?” Dennis said starting to get dark eyed and evil looking.
“The United States has declared war on Iran and undertaken a nuclear retaliatory strike. But that’s not all, China, Russia, France, The UK, Japan and Israel all had attacks and they are pointing fingers at North Korea and Egypt as well as Al Qaeda as having something to do with it.” His Mom said emotionally.
“Oh my God! That is some serious bad news. Mom we need to realize the world has just gone to hell in a hand basket.” Dennis concluded and reached for her hand to hold to reassure who he didn’t know.
“What happens to us now Dennis? I am scared.” Mom said with tears welling up in her eyes.
“I don’t really know Mom. It scares me to think about it. We will get by somehow; I have tried to plan for us for so long now.” Dennis said getting distraught and teary eyed himself.
“Sometimes I could have done better if I worked harder, but this is all I have and what we got to work with.” Dennis said hating to explain further while berating himself over past decisions he could have assuredly spent more time on.
