The Lies (Luck of the Irish Book 2) Page 5

by Tracy Lorraine

She’s shocked to hear that I’d almost left Ireland the previous weekend, and her delight that I’m still here is just another thing that shows I made the right decision.

“So I’ll pick you up about six-thirty on Monday night then?” Cara asks when we’re about to part ways. When I mentioned my need for some exercise, Cara told me about a Zumba class she attends and invited me along. I haven’t danced since I was a kid and Cara and I went to classes together; I’m excited to get back to it.

“I’ll be ready,” I agree, thinking I need to get myself some appropriate workout clothes over the weekend. Just thinking about the weekend gets butterflies fluttering in my belly. I cannot wait for my sleepover with Blake. We’ve been texting constantly since our date the other night. I love it because with each message, I feel like I’m getting to know him that little bit better, even if we are just talking about what he’s been up to at work.

He sent me a video last night of the freshly plastered walls in the bakery. Jason just had the kitchen area to finish, and once it’s dry we can start decorating. I’m so excited to get some colour on the walls and the furniture I’ve ordered in.

After leaving Cara, I head back to Aunt Addy’s to put the finishing touches to an orange and chocolate birthday cake that’s being collected by one of her friends later. This evening, Aunt Addy is taking me to see Macbeth, the play that she’s been making all the costumes for. I’m looking forward to seeing her masterpieces in action, as well as spending some time with her.

Before I know it, I’m stood looking out Aunt Addy’s living room window, waiting for Blake to come and get me.

“You remind me of Kayleigh waiting for the ice cream man to come,” Aunt Addy says fondly behind me. “My mother was such a soft touch with her and she knew as soon as she heard that damn music it was her lucky day.”

“I miss her,” I admit. I don’t think I will ever forgive myself for not staying in touch properly when we moved away. We grew up like sisters and then I left and that was it.

“Me too,” Aunt Addy agrees sadly. “Oh, he’s here,” she points out, pulling us both from our morose thoughts.

A zing of excitement goes through me and I stand and watch as Blake gets out of his van and walks this way. When he looks up to the house he sees me stood at the window and his face lights up. He’s in his work clothes—those incredible ripped jeans he was wearing when I first met him, and a dirty McCarthy’s t-shirt—showing he’s clearly been busy all day.

Aunt Addy and Blake have a little catch up in the hallway while I gather my stuff.

“You’re only staying the night, you know,” Blake comments when he comes in to grab my bags.

“I know, but you haven’t told me what we’re doing so I didn’t know what to pack.”

“Fair enough,” he mutters as he grabs everything in one hand before reaching for mine with the other.

“Hey,” he says, giving me a quick kiss to the lips.

  “Hey, yourself,” I whisper back.

He then leans forward so his lips are brushing my ear, “It’s been too long since I’ve been inside you,” he breathes, sending goosebumps racing down my neck and across my body.

“Okay, you two, get out of here,” Aunt Addy says, obviously sensing the tension between us. “Have fun and don’t do anything I wouldn’t do!”

“We’ll try, have a good evening,” Blake responds as he begins pulling me from the house.

My bags get thrown in the back of his van and the old part of me that’s still lingering wants to chastise him because of the cost of those Luis Vuitton cases, but the new me soon appears and shrugs it off. They’re just bags; no one here cares if they’re this season, last season, or from Primark.

Blake wastes no time in having the engine running and pulling off the drive. I give a quick wave to Aunt Addy, who’s stood at the front door watching us with a smile on her face, before she disappears as we turn the corner.

“Where are we going?” I ask when Blake doesn’t take the turning I was expecting.

  “Just a quick pit stop.”

He continues to drive up the coast a little before pulling off onto a barely there road. We drive down the track, tree branches scratching down the side of the van until we come to a stop in front of the most amazing view of the bay beyond.

“Wow, how did we never find this as kids?” I ask, but it’s more to myself than Blake so when he responds it makes me jump a little.

“It’s private property. I did some work in the house over there for an old couple a few years ago, but they’ve since both died and the house is falling into rack and ruin,” he says, pointing past me.

I follow his finger to see the most incredible house. I can’t even begin to imagine what it must be like waking up to this view every day.

  “What a waste,” I mutter.

“I’m going to buy it one day,” Blake states.

  “Is it for sale?”

“No, it’s been handed down to their waste of space only child, but it will go up for sale eventually. When he emerges from whatever hole he’s lost himself in and realises he’s sat on a fortune, I’m sure he won’t be able to sell it quick enough.”

“Who’s the son?” I ask, thinking I may remember him.

“No idea. I’ve never seen him and they hadn’t for almost twenty years. They were such a lovely couple, they didn’t deserve him as a son from what I’ve heard.”

“So what exactly are we doing here?” I ask. He can’t have just brought me here to look at an old house he one day wants to own.

“Sinead won’t be picked up until six and I can’t wait that long,” he admits, his voice getting deeper with each word.

“Can’t wait for what?” I ask as innocently as possible.

“You,” he says, before leaning over the centre console and roughly grabbing onto my hair so he can slam our lips together. He kisses me until we’re both breathless before peppering kisses along my jaw line and nibbling on my ear lobe. “Suck me,” he whispers.

“What?” I ask, thinking I misheard his quiet whisper.

“Suck. Me,” he repeats as he sits back in his seat and begins undoing his jeans. In seconds, he has his cock in his hand. The tip glistens in the afternoon sun, making it look even more tempting. My mouth waters for another taste of him as I feel myself getting wet from just the idea of what we’re about to do.

I shift myself in my seat to get into a somewhat comfortable position before leaning over and lowering my mouth to him. I lick at the tip and his entire body flinches. The engine revs where his leg stiffens and I smile to myself. I don’t think I’ll ever get used to the effect I seem to have on him. He’s putty in my hands right now. I never had this before. Edward told me he enjoyed it but his body didn’t show me like Blake’s does.

I slide all the way down his cock until he’s hitting the back of my throat. He mutters my name along with other intelligible words above me as he guides my head with his hand in my hair.

“Add…gonna…come…” He stutters out a warning but I continue, taking him as deep as I dare. “Uh fuck, fuck, fuck,” he chants, seconds before his cock twitches and I get my first taste of his release. I continue sucking him slowly until he’s finished and starting to soften in my mouth. I give the tip a lick to make sure he’s clean before sitting back up. My muscles pull in my back and I can’t feel my right leg but one look at Blake’s face and I know it was worth it. He looks satisfied and sleepy.

I give him a couple of seconds to come back to himself before waiting for him to do something. Getting him off out in the open like this has me so fucking turned on it’s not even funny. My heart’s racing and my clit’s pounding as I sit and wait, the anticipation of what he’s going to do slowly driving me insane.

“Right, let’s go. Sinead will be wondering where we are.”

  “WHAT?”

“I told her I was picking you up and coming straight back.”

  “But…Blake…I need—”

  “O
h, I know exactly what you need, baker girl. It’s written all over your face. Your pupils are dilated, your breathing is hitched, your pulse is racing, your nipples are hard, and I don’t need to check to know you’re fucking drenched right now.”

My mouth drops open at the same time my hands come up to cover my boobs.

“Hey, I was enjoying that,” Blake complains as he starts reversing the van out the way we came.

I remove my hands and look down, seeing that with the long sleeved t-shirt I’m wearing my arousal is more than obvious.

  “Damn you,” I sulk.

“Oh, princess, it’ll be so worth the wait.”

“Fucking better be,” I mutter as I cross my arms and pout to myself, frustrated and excited at the same time.

“We’re home,” Blake calls up the stairs when we get back to his house. I’ve no idea why he bothers, because there’s no way she’ll hear him over the booming voices of Little Mix currently coming from her bedroom.

Blake must agree because he walks off towards the kitchen, shaking his head. “I thought we could order takeout once she’s been picked up,” he shouts over his shoulder. “But until then,” he continues when I catch him up to see him pulling a bottle of wine out of the fridge, “we’ll make a start on this.”

  “Sounds good to me.”

Blake pours me a glass and we both sit ourselves down in his living room with Little Mix filling our ears.

“DAD, have you seen my purple top?” Sinead shouts as she comes running down the stairs.

“No I…What the hell? You are not going out looking like that, Sinead,” Blake warns, making me look over the back of the sofa to see what’s going on.

My eyes run over Sinead I can see why Blake has an issue. She has on a pair of hot pants, her top is way too see through to not have a vest underneath, and her face is plastered in make up—and I mean plastered. She’s orange with panda eyes.

  “Dad, don’t be ridiculous.”

“I’m not. You need to go and sort that mess out right now,” Blake says harshly.

I watch as they stare each other out before Sinead’s chin starts to wobble.

“Sinead,” Blake warns and her response is to run out of the room, leaving the sounds of her sobs behind.

“Shite,” he mutters, running his hands though his hair. “I didn’t mean to sound harsh but what the fuck was that? She’s my baby girl, she shouldn’t look like that.” He looks totally defeated as he necks the rest of his wine and falls back on to the sofa. I feel for him because watching your daughter become a woman must be hard for every father.

“I’ll go and sort her out,” I say, getting up.

“You don’t have to. I’ll go an apologise and try to help her.”

“No offense, but I don’t think you’re going to be much help right now.”

Blake lets out a huge breath. “I fucking hate this. I try so hard to be what she needs but the older she gets, the harder it is to be a mother and a father.”

“You’re doing an incredible job, Blake. Don’t be so hard on yourself.”

I walk out the room, wondering what the hell I’ve just offered to do. I have no idea where to even start with what I’m about to have to deal with.

I almost turn around and give up before I’ve started when I knock on Sinead’s door and get told to go away, but I square my shoulders and try again. I will not be beaten by an twelve-year-old with terrible make up.

“Sinead, it’s me. Can I come in?”

I hear some movement inside but there’s no answer.

  “Please, Sinead.”

Eventually, I hear light footsteps getting closer to the door before it slowly opens and her tear-stained face peeks through the gap. I can only presume she wanted to see if I was alone, because as soon as she sees it’s just me, she opens it wider to allow me in.

“Your dad didn’t mean what he just said, Sinead, you just took him by surprise. I know it’s hard but you’ll always be his little girl, and sometimes dads don’t like to see their girls growing up.”

“He didn’t need to be so mean about it,” she sniffles.

“No, he didn’t, and he knows he was wrong.” I sit myself on her bed next to her and open my own make up bag that I brought with me. “Here,” I say, handing her a cleansing wipe to remove the make up still left on her face.

“Have you ever had any make up lessons?”

  “No.”

“How about I give you some pointers I’ve picked up over the years?”

  “Okay.”

“I remember one night when your mum and I were about eight. My mum had fallen asleep on the sofa so we snuck into her bedroom and took her make up, and it wasn’t cheap make up—my mum has a thing for designer labels so it was all expensive stuff. Anyway, we went to town with it. Bright colourful eyes, rosy cheeks and red lips. We thought we looked amazing but my mum freaked out when she came in to check on us after waking up. I’d never seen her go quite so crazy, and all over a little bit of make up. Your nan was called to pick your mum up because she was so mad and I think I was grounded for about a month. I’m pretty sure she’s never forgiven me for it,” I say with a laugh. I had no idea back then how much her collection of designer make up cost but I can only imagine how long she’d saved to be able to buy it now.

“Tell me more about my mum,” Sinead says as I start work on her eye shadow. So I do; I chat about our childhood together and Sinead soaks up every word.

“You’re just like her, you know?”

“Everyone says that but I always presume they just say it to make me feel better. I’m sure most of those people never really knew her.”

“Well, it’s true. I knew your mum probably better than anyone. She was practically my sister and you, madam, are the spitting image of her. You’ve got her beauty and her kind nature.”

“Thank you,” she says, a little teary eyed.

“Shit—crap,” I say in panic, trying to cover up my slip of a swear word.

“It’s okay, I’m at secondary school now, I’ve heard worse.”

“Sorry,” I mutter. “I’ve never really had much to do with kids,” I admit.

“You’re doing a great job,” Sinead says, making my heart swell.

“Thank you,” I whisper. Now I’m the one fighting my emotions.

“Sinead, your lift’s here,” Blake shouts up the stairs, reminding me what we’re doing.

“I’m picking you a new outfit,” I announce as I pull open Sinead’s wardrobe and riffle through the contents.

I eventually pull out a pair of black skinny jeans and a silver glittery top that still has the price tag on. When I hold it out for her to see, she screws up her face, showing me her feelings about it.

“Nan bought that, it’s not really me, it’s a bit simple.”

“Sometimes, Sinead, less is more. Now try it on so I can see, at least.” I let myself out of the room so she can change.

“I don’t know,” she complains, letting me know she’s ready.

“It’s stunning, Sinead. Have you looked in the mirror?”

She shakes her head and walks over to her full-length mirror. “Oh my God,” she gasps. “I do look just like my mum.” She turns to me with tears in her eyes. “I love it, thank you.”

“You’re welcome, sweetheart. Now go knock ‘em dead. The boys won’t know what’s hit them.” She looks at me with the same face as when I brought up boys before—still not interested then! I laugh to myself as she grabs her packed bags and I follow her downstairs after depositing my make up bag in Blake’s room.

Whoever’s picking her up must have knocked because I can hear voices. When I get halfway down the stairs, I feel something I don’t think I’ve ever really experienced before. Jealousy. There’s a stunning woman stood just inside Blake’s hallway with her hand gently placed on his arm while she laughs at whatever it was he just said.

“Dad?” Sinead says, trying to get his attention and thankfully putting a stop to the touching.

I stand behind Sinead and watch as he turns around. His eyes instantly widen before they start to tear up as he runs them over his daughter. Sinead was right a few minutes ago—she does look like Kayleigh, so I can only imagine what’s going through Blake’s head right now.

“Oh Sinead, you look gorgeous,” he says, his Irish accent gone, after attempting to cough down his emotion.

“Addison helped. Do you really like it?”

“I love it, Lil’ bit,” he reassures, sounding a little more together.

I take the opportunity to walk up to Blake and snuggle into his side. I know it’s childish but the look on the woman’s face is priceless as her eyes flick between the two of us.

“Have you got everything you need?”

  “Yes, I think so.”

“Did you get the present from the kitchen?”

“Yes,” Sinead responds, sounding bored of her dad’s fussing.”

“Good girl. Have a good night then, and I’ll see you tomorrow,” he says as she starts to make her way to the door, past the annoying woman. When I look over her shoulder I see two other girls already wedged in the back of her tiny car.

“I’ll drop her back before lunch tomorrow,” the woman says. “And if you change your mind about that drink—”

“I’m good, thanks,” Blake says, cutting her off. “Thanks for having Sinead. Any problems, call me.” With that, the woman has one last look at both of us, turns on her heal and heads to her car to help Sinead try to squeeze her stuff in.

“Wow, could she be any more blatant?” I ask as Blake shuts the door.

  “Jealous?”

“Um…” As I think of how to answer that question, he pushes me so my back’s against the wall and cages my head in with his arms. “It was just inappropriate in front of Sinead.”

“That was nothing,” he says as he traces the shell of my ear with his tongue. “She was trying even before her husband left her.”

“Tramp,” I mutter just as Blake sucks on the sensitive bit of skin below my ear.

“I’m not interested in her—or any of them.”
