Thank you for picking up The Holiday! I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.
I’ve been to France on holiday more than any other country and had been thinking about setting a story there for a while. My family and I stayed in the village of Autignac, north of Beziers, a few years ago and it remains one of my favourite summer holidays – so it was an obvious choice when it came to thinking about locations for my third book.
I had an idea in my head about four women who have been best friends since their teens and have shared everything together, good and bad. The kind of friendship that you think will last a lifetime. What could possibly happen in their lives to break that bond? Why would one of them choose to betray the friendship? Would it be for love? Money? Revenge? Or something else? That was the core of the idea that became The Holiday.
My next psychological thriller follows a man fighting to protect his family – after a new arrival threatens to tear it apart. James is delighted to meet his daughter’s boyfriend for the first time. 22-year-old Abbie is head-over-heels in love with her new man. And guess what, Dad? We’re engaged! Smart, successful and handsome, Ryan appears to be the perfect future son-in-law.
There’s just one problem.
There’s something off about Ryan. Something hidden in the shadows behind his eyes. And it seems that only James can see it.
Terrified that his daughter is being drawn in by a psychopath, James sets out to uncover her fiancé’s dark past – while keeping his own concealed. But no one believes him. And the more he digs, the more he alienates her and the rest of the family who are convinced that Ryan is ‘the one’.
James knows different. For reasons of his own, he knows a monster when he sees one . . .
