“It’s over,” he said into a watch identical to Wyatt’s own.

“Then they’re safe,” a familiar voice answered.

  “Only time will tell.”

  CHAPTER FORTY-SEVEN

“Justice prevails over transgression when she comes to the end of the race.”

  —Hesoid

  Six months later…

The fall of Bass’s empire had been swift and fierce. Now the last step drew upon them.

“She cannot testify and she will not testify!” he stated matter-of-factly to Oliver as Raine shifted in the plush seat, never quite able to find a comfortable spot lately.

  “But—”

“I don’t give a rat’s ass about the completion of this case; you better find another way!” he spat.

  “Honey—”

“No!” he roared. “I am not compromising your safety for anyone or anything!”

“Vince is dead,” Oliver stated flatly before throwing down some pictures. “One of my agents assured me that the job was well-done and he sent pictures to prove it,” he assured.

“And Salvatore?” he questioned and Raine shifted uncomfortably.

“I affirm once again that Salvatore is not a threat—”

“You make it sound as if he hadn’t been one to begin with!”

“Stop being a tough cookie,” she muttered, elbowing him. He flinched slightly and she hastened to apologize for there was where one of his new scars laid.

“My answer is final,” he stated as he watched the Caribbean waves crash against the edge of his yacht.

“Well, mine is yes,” she answered as her eyes followed Gabby in the onboard swimming pool. “I’ll do anything to take that monster of a man off the streets.

“Are you going to defy everything I say our whole marriage?” he grumbled as he lifted the beer to his lips and the warm sun bounced off his shiny ring.

“Probably,” she laughed. “And you’re going to love me every second of it,” she said saucily.

“That I will,” he answered grudgingly. “That I will; even with three stubborn kids to keep me on my toes”

  THE END

“The future is worth it. All the pain. All the tears. The future is worth the fight.”
