Wed, Read & Dead Page 24

by V. M. Burns

The cake was as delicious as it was beautiful.

Lexi and Angelo were perfect angels and looked great in their fancy clothes. I got misty-eyed thinking about how much I would miss them when they left. Their aunt and uncle, Jerri and Ryan Cachero, would be arriving early next week and their grandparents would be here soon afterward. I couldn’t believe how quickly I got attached.

I looked around the room, amazed at my new extended family. From Harold and Mom to Nana Jo and the girls to Dawson, Jillian, Emma, and now Lexi and Angelo, my life was full of friendship and love. The clock struck midnight and we all raised a glass in salute.

This year, I said, with a full heart, “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.”
