For Whom He Fights Page 12

“No one told me I was supposed to have an aphrodisiac!” Andronaisa hissed.

“If you knew, would you have accepted it?”

  “No!”

“Exactly. This is why they are never told they were given one.”

Now Andronaisa understood. When Kurt told her that while they were not having sex in front of everyone, but it would be hard being around them knowing what was going to happen...now she understood.

THE CEREMONY WENT OFF without a hitch, except for a few teasing touches from Kurt and Andronaisa feeling like she wanted to rip her dress off because she felt so hot. Everything else went fine, and the two were bonded. Afterwards, Malia dragged her away from Kurt and forced a plate of food into her hands.

“Eat. You’re going to need your strength.”

  “I’m not hungry. I just...”

“Believe me, I know. But you need your strength for what’s about to come.”

  “The chase?”

Malia smiled. “Yes, but more than that,” she said, urging Andronaisa to eat.

Andronaisa frowned over a forkful of food. “What’s after the chase? Well, I mean, I know about the sex but...”

“Kurt’s in a rut.” Dina offered as she walked by.

  “A rut?”

Malia nodded. “Yes. You’ve heard of when omegas go into heat, right? Well alphas go through something a little similar called a rut.”

The fork paused halfway to Andronaisa’s mouth. “Oh...”

Malia nodded. “Yes. This is usually why they wait to do the claiming then. But Kurt was just a little too eager. However, he may re-mark your claiming bite so be prepared. Finish your food.”

“This was the reason Rosa gave-”

  “You the aphrodisiac, yes.”

Andronaisa got quiet as she ate her food, taking all of what was said to her, in. She wondered if Kurt knew about the aphrodisiac his mother gave her. She was pretty sure he did. That’s why Rosa explained that they never tell the female or whoever that they were given it. But she wondered if all mating ceremonies happened when the alpha was in a rut, or was it just by coincidence that Kurt’s came during theirs. Suddenly, her plate was taken away.

“When you hear Kurt roar, run. Follow the path through the trees and do not, I repeat, DO NOT stray off that path,” Malia explained.

Andronaisa barely had time to acknowledge her when she heard Kurt’s roar.

  “Run!” Malia gently pushed her.

Andronaisa ran. She noticed how people seemed to just make room for her as she ran through the woods. What was she doing? Running. Why was she running, though? What was the point? Wasn’t Kurt just going to catch her, anyway? Wasn’t that the whole point? For him to catch her and make love to her. She looked behind her, but she didn’t see Kurt. She stopped. Maybe she should wait for him. But then she realized this was a game. A game of cat and mouse. And then she ran faster. She wasn’t going to make it easy for Kurt to catch her. Not if she could help it. At one point, she felt claws on her and part of her dress fell away, but she didn’t see anything. Still, she ran. Again, she felt claws, and another part of her dress was ripped off, leaving her breasts exposed. Per Malia’s instructions, she had worn no underclothing.

By the time she reached the end of the path which led her to a clearing surrounded by trees, Andronaisa’s dress had been completely torn to shreds, leaving her bare and exposed. Every instinct told her to find something to cover herself with, but she didn't. There was a roar, and Kurt appeared in front of her. He was in his in-between stage as he stalked toward her.

THE NEXT MORNING, ANDRONAISA groaned at the pain in her lower back. She finally understood what a rut was. Not that she had been complaining last night. But this morning, her body hated her. She frowned as she sat up. She was no longer in the clearing. She was in a warm bed, but where was Kurt?

“It's about time you woke up. I was starting to worry.” Kurt walked into the room with a bowl.

“What happened? How long was I out?”

Kurt sat on the bed and handed her the bowl of soup. “Well, it's going on three in the afternoon.”

“Oh, my gosh! Kurt! I was supposed to meet with clients today!” Andronaisa started to get up, but he stopped her.

“Easy. I already called your clients and rescheduled. You needed the rest. How are you feeling, by the way?”

“Like I got run over by a mack truck. You wore me out.”

Kurt chuckled but didn’t look sorry. He shifted onto the bed and pulled Andronaisa against him. George had been right. He was finally and truly happy. He knew that the road up ahead would not be all sunshine and rainbows, but he was ready to tackle whatever came next with his mate.

“So what happens now?” Andronaisa asked as she ate the soup.

“Our life together,” was the simple answer that Kurt offered.

Andronaisa smiled. She could handle that.
