Devious Minds

“Really?” Savannah asked, hopping up and down with excitement.
“Yup! And we’re going to see the Eiffel Tower, and Notre-Dame, and a bunch of museums. Then we’re going shopping. I need some new clothes, and I promised you a new outfit for your birthday. Oh... and we can’t forget the perfume, or the chocolate! You won’t believe how great it is. There’s so much to do, and I can’t wait to show you!”
“Yes!” she said, throwing her arms around me for another hug. “Let’s go!”
I introduced everyone to Louis and he opened the car doors. While he put the luggage in the trunk, the kids climbed into the back seat. Chris knew one of us needed to sit in the front seat, but he didn’t want to let go of me yet.
“The executive suite?” he asked, thinking I must have done something pretty amazing to warrant that.
“Yeah. I had to forgo the medal to remain anonymous, but the trade-off was worth it, don’t you think?”
“Shelby.” He pulled me into his arms, knowing my story would probably scare him to death, but for now, he’d be grateful that I was still alive, and still his. “I love you.”
“I love you, too. I’m so glad you’re here.” My eyes filled with tears again, but I gave him a kiss and brushed them away. “Come on. I can’t wait to show you Paris.”
We got in the car, and my heart swelled with joy. The last few days had been some of the scariest of my life, but somehow, it had all worked out. Now with my family all together, things couldn’t be better, and I knew that whatever happened in the future, I would always be grateful for Paris.
