There was a long stretch of silence. Ava already knew the decision that needed to be made. She didn’t have to like it but hopefully it wouldn’t be for long. The sooner Wade was caught, the better.
“It’s not your job,” Logan said finally. “You don’t even have anything to do with this. The Marshal service goes after fugitives.”
“As of this morning, we’ve all been deputized,” Seth said. “One of Evan’s former colleagues is heading up the search and they could use all the help they can get. We’re acting as the B team. That includes you, too. They’re well aware that no one knows Wade Bryson’s criminal habits better than you do.”
A lump had built up in Ava’s throat as she stared at this group of men she’d trust with her life. Strong, determined, honest, and stubborn as hell. They wouldn’t give up until Wade had been found. They wouldn’t let anything happen to her family. Her husband knew it, too.
“I’ll give you one week,” Logan growled. “And if you don’t have him then I’ll go get him my damn self. One fucking week. That’s it.”
Tanner nodded. “One week. Hopefully it won’t take any longer.”
“Dare and I can help the kids pack,” Griffin offered. “We need to get on the road.”
Logan groaned and rolled his eyes. “Christ, we’re not going in that motorhome again, are we? How old is that thing?”
Tanner finally smiled. “That motor home has been sold. We rented one in the name of Evan’s publishing company. Damn thing is nicer than my first house, so don’t bitch and moan. Now go pack. Griffin’s right. We do need to get you on the road. The sooner you’re out of any area that Wade might look for you, the better.”
Ava felt safe with this group. No bad guys were going to get away from these determined men. When they worked together something…special happened. If anybody could keep them safe while at the same time finding a fugitive, it was these guys.
She’d tell the kids they were going on an adventure.
But wait…what about the dog?
“Um…I get why you are all here. But what’s he here for?”
Seth let the dog move closer to Ava. She wasn’t afraid of dogs or anything but she was rightfully wary as to whether they were friendly.
“It’s a her, actually,” Seth said with a grin, ruffling the dog’s fur. “Her name is Molly. She trained to be a police dog but didn’t quite make it. She’s very well trained though, and will make an excellent line of protection for your family. Go ahead. Pet her. You’re going to be her new mommy.”
Ava shot Logan a dirty look. “Well, at least I don’t have to give birth to this one. Are you sure you didn’t cook this up with your friends just to get a dog?”
Raising out a tentative hand, she stroked Molly’s silky fur and was rewarded by the canine eagerly snuggling against her hip and looking up at her with deep worshipful brown eyes.
It can’t be all bad if someone looks at me like that. Being adored is nice.
“Are you ready?” Reed asked, his gaze darting between Ava and Logan. “We really do need to hurry. We have a long drive ahead of us.”
That was the giant question. Was she ready? Being married to Logan Wright was never boring that was for sure.
“I’m ready. Let’s do this.”
I hope you enjoyed revisiting Logan and Ava! There’s much more to come in the autumn of 2018. Thank you for reading Justice Divided!
