  “Nothing.” Alicia caressed his neck. “Thank you, but you can’t fight someone because of their words. Remember that saying, ‘sticks and stones can break my bones…’”

  “But words can’t do me harm,” Perry finished. “I love you, Alicia and I won’t allow horny men disrespecting you in any way.”

  “You love me…” she whispered.

  “Yes.” He wrapped his arms around her. “I know we’re too young, but—”

  “No buts.” Alicia got up on her tiptoes. “I don’t think I knew what love was until you showed me. I know we’re young and dumb at times.” She cackled. “Who knows, we might not make it another year, even a month, but right now we’re together and I want to enjoy every single moment with you before we go off to college.”

  He smiled. “Good. I’m the second boy you ever loved.”

  Her eyebrow rose. “Second? I didn’t love Patrick.”

  He found her facial expression amusing. “Your dad.”

  “Oh!” She smacked him on the chest.

  “We will make it.” He lifted her hand to his mouth and he gave her a feather-kiss. Perry wasn’t really sure if they were forever, but he damned sure wanted to achieve eternity. “Let’s go.”

  “I’m going to take a shower, and you need to take one to calm yourself down. That guy didn’t bother me, because I’m with you. No matter what anyone says, they can’t come between us.”

  Perry lovingly watched his girlfriend. She made him see things differently. Alicia had a system: if he received a bad grade on a test because he hadn’t studied, she would punish him by staying away for three days. He’d called her bluff once and didn’t hear from her for over a week. Ever since then he’d study his ass off for each freaking test. He even paid attention in class now. “Meet you in fifteen minutes. I have a surprise for you.”

  “See you.” She walked away toward the womens’ lockers.

  ~~~
  They lay in the back of his aunt’s pickup truck, looking up at the stars. Perry had parked beside a lake in the middle of nowhere about an hour away. The moon shone on the water, making an amazing picture. Alicia was securely in his arms, her legs resting on his.
  “This is nice.” She turned to the side gazing at him, and then moved up a bit.
  He’d placed a thick blanket on the bed of the truck, and arranged a picnic-like atmosphere. He’d done what he’d set out to do, impress Alicia. He even had her favorite songs playing in the background.
  “Peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.” She smiled. “My favorite.”
  He chuckled. “It was the easiest thing to prepare.” Perry kissed her nose. He started rapping along with LL Cool J to “I Need Love”.
  “I’m ready,” she whispered in his ear, making him shiver.
  Perry gazed back at her. “You’re ready to go home already?” He glanced at the watch on his wrist. “Your curfew is at eleven.”
  Alicia got up on her elbows. “Perry, I’m ready to have sex.”
  He was shocked. Had he heard her correctly? She was ready to give herself to him. Perry wasn’t sure if he was ready for that step. He wasn’t a virgin, but Alicia was and he wasn’t taking that lightly. She deserved her first time to be special. “We can wait.”
  “I don’t want to wait. I’m eighteen and can make my own choices.” She began kissing his neck, and in seconds he was aroused. “I know you want me…”
  He ran his hand down from the arch of her back to her ass. “I do, but you said you wanted to wait.”
  “Patrick wasn’t the one.” Her hands trailed down his chest to his dick. “I didn’t feel like I do for you. My mom took me to the doctor’s, and I’m on birth control.”
  “Your mom knows you want to have sex?” he asked, surprised, because Mrs. Noreen was no joke. The two of them couldn’t even touch when he was at her house.
  “No!” Alicia giggled. “My periods are irregular, and that happened to work to my advantage.”
  Perry swallowed. “Once we do this, there’s no turning back. I don’t want you to regret it. What if we break up?”
  “Then we break up.” She eyed him. “I want this with you… Why are you denying this?” Alicia cupped his dick, making it jerk. “I know I’m inexperienced, but you can teach me. I want you to lead me in this new chapter of my life.”
  “Mami.” Perry nibbled on her lower lip. “Are you sure?”
  She smiled, leaning up. “Yes, I’m sure.”
  “Nobody” by Keith Sweat was playing in the background. Without saying another word, Alicia slowly began undressing in front of him and then laid back down on the blanket. Perry swallowed hard. Her full breasts were perfect. He ogled her entire body, from her eyes to her brown nipples, her flat belly, leading down to her soft pubic hairs. Perry settled in between her thighs, kissing her passionately on her luscious lips. Her natural perfume was intoxicating as his cock grew harder. He caressed her legs up to the side of her ass. By the way her body trembled underneath his, Perry could tell she was nervous.
  “Mami…are you sure?”
  She sat up, unbuckling his belt and started fumbling with his pants, and finally, Alicia freed his cock. Perry rapidly pulled off his T-shirt and jeans. Alicia circled her fingers around his manhood, stroking him up and down in her soft hands.
  “It feels so hard.” Alicia squeezed his base, and then stared at his dick, making it throb. “It’s big.”
  He kissed her neck, making her grip on his dick tighter. Perry took her hands in his. “Tonight is all about you, Alicia,” he said, bowing his head to her chest. Sucking on her full breasts, one by one, he twirled his tongue around her areola, making her moan. He laid her on her back and teased his finger down her stomach to her pussy. His fingers danced across her clit, making her hips move with the motion. Perry kissed her inner thigh, smelling her heated essence. Knowing that he would be the first person to make love to her made his manhood drip with pre-cum. Alicia was already wet before he’d even started his sensual assault on the delectable diamond in between her legs.
  Alicia’s chest heaved rapidly as she watched him taste her for the first time. She gasped and her beautiful brown eyes closed as he wrapped his lips around her clit, he assumed due to the ecstasy he was causing her. His fingers continued their slow assault on her pussy as she squeezed his hands in between her thighs. Perry placed her legs over his shoulders for better access to her pearl. Her hips rose off the truck bed as he slid his tongue from the bottom of her pussy all the way to her nub, driving her crazy. Her eyes rolled back in her head and she gripped his hair, making him pause for a few seconds before she released her grip.
  “Sorry…”
  Perry smiled, playing with her clit with the tip of his tongue.
  “Oh Perry…that feels…” Alicia moaned and then hit her head on the truck. Her fingers now had a death grip on his hair again, but he wasn’t going to stop until he made her scream in ecstasy. Alicia screamed into the open air as she rode her orgasm, while he savored her natural juices.
  She touched her breast, trying to breathe normally. “Oh my God, Perry! What was that?”
  He chuckled. “It’s called an orgasm.”
  “I know I’ve never experienced anything like that,” Alicia exhaled. “That felt out of this world.” She gazed at him. Perry crawled up her body, about to kiss her when she placed her hand on his chest, pushing him slightly away. “Ew…you want me to taste myself?”
  “You taste delicious.” He smiled wiping her juices from his chin, and leaned down. Perry devoured her lips, letting her taste her own sweet essence. She hungrily kissed him back, tasting every inch of his mouth, and then she rolled them over.
  “That was different,” Alicia grinded on his dick, rubbing her natural lubricant against him. She took his dick in her hand and eased up, placing the tip at her opening and slowly tried to lower herself. Alicia’s eyes opened wide at the invasion her body had never experienced before.
  “We don’t have to do this, babe,” he said between gr
itted teeth, knowing that he was dying to push up into her warm cavern, but her wants came first.
  Alicia continued taking him in until she met with resistance.
  Perry gripped her hips. “Mami, this is going to hurt.” He let her set her own tempo. When she was ready she would let him know.
  She nodded her head and he pushed up in a rapid motion, making her gasp loudly in pain as he pierced her hymen. Alicia’s eyes widened, and then a tear ran down her face. At that moment, all he could see was anguish instead of pleasure. Alicia rested her head on his collarbone, taking short breaths. The wetness of her tears on his neck made his heart sink.
  “Are you okay?” Perry asked as she laid motionless on his chest. Her breast pressed against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her back, and kissed the side of her neck. “If it’s too much,” he whispered, still inside of her, “we can stop…”
  Alicia pressed her lips to his neck, and shook her head. She slowly began to move up and down his manhood, taking as much as she could, and then he started to hear her moan his name in his ear. The sensation was causing his balls to tingle with excitement. He needed to give her another orgasm. Making love to Alicia was everything he’d dreamed of and more. He loved this girl. She leaned back up, pressing her hands on his chest and gazing back at him. She threw her head back in pleasure instead of pain. Perry began to gently thrust up at her rhythm. Her expression was so exotic as her breasts swayed to their lovemaking. His balls tightened; his orgasm was near. He placed his finger on her clit and started rubbing it in a circular motion, and Alicia started riding him faster. Suddenly she stopped mid-stroke, and moaned loudly into the air.
  “I’m coming too…” Perry’s whole body tensed as he came harder than he’d ever come before. He pounded the truck with his foot. Alicia was the first girl he’d had unprotected sex with. His aunt had always made sure he had condoms, but Alicia was different: she was his girl.
  “I love you…”
  “Yo te amo, papi.” Alicia smiled, lying next to him as they tried to come down from the high.
  He draped the other blanket around them. “I was worried I hurt you.”
  “That’s part of life. It hurt really bad for a few minutes, but it was better than I had imagined.” She traced his nipple.
  “You might bleed,” Perry said, concerned.
  “I know.” She closed her eyes. “Can we stay like this for a while?”
  He kissed her forehead. “As long as you want.”
  “I don’t want this night to end.” Alicia placed her head on his forearm.
  Perry chuckled. “I don’t want it to end, either, but your parents will kill me if they wake up and their little girl isn’t there. I want us to live to graduate high school.”
  Alicia giggled. “Technically, we’re adults.”
  “When we move out of our parents’ houses in a few months,” he brushed her hair with his fingers, “I will give you the world.”
  Alicia fell asleep in his arms as he dreamed about the future, which included a good job to support his family and Alicia and a couple of kids.
  After graduating high school, they immediately moved in together, upsetting their parents—but they didn’t care, because they were together. At that age, they’d assumed they knew everything there was to being an adult. Alicia continued working at McDonald’s and went to the community college down the road from their studio apartment. Perry did what he thought was right and skipped college for a year, working six-days a week at the garage, allowing Alicia to attend college as a full-time student and not worry about bills. After they added rent and the monthly utilities and their beat-up car and gas, money was tight. He was grateful for her financial aid checks, but from time to time, he would get in the ring for some extra cash.
  Four years later, they still lived in the same apartment with the same old jobs. Life wasn’t turning out how they’d dreamed it would be. He still hadn’t gone to college and Alicia hadn’t graduated because she was now a part-time student, but she never once complained about living under poor conditions, because they were happy just being in each other’s presence. However, lately, she’d been acting strange around him.
  They were lying on the twin-sized bed, watching TV.
  “I’m pregnant,” Alicia said softly.
  Perry instantly sat up. “Are you sure?” He turned, giving her his undivided attention.
  She twisted to the side, opened the nightstand, and took out a bunch of white sticks. “I took three to make sure.” She held them up. “What are we going to do?”
  “What do you mean?” Perry grabbed the sticks, not knowing what he was supposed to be looking at.
  “Two lines means I’m pregnant, one line means I’m not pregnant.” Alicia slipped out of the bed. “We’re not ready for a baby.”
  Perry stared at her, dumbfounded. “My parents weren’t ready for me, either,” he said, placing the tests on the nightstand. “We love each other, Alicia, and we’ll love our baby that much more.”
  She leaned against the wall with tears in her eyes. “I thought you would suggest us getting an abortion?”
  “Why the hell would you think that?” Perry moved off the bed to stand in front of her. “I knew this could be a possibility. I mean, we weren’t using protection. You don’t want the baby?” he, asked feeling a bit hurt.
  Tears ran down her cheeks. “I’m still working at freaking McDonald’s and you’re busting your ass at that stupid garage. When will we have time to raise a baby?” she cried. “We’ve been living in this shithole going on five years and I haven’t even finished my degree.”
  Perry wrapped his arms around her, and hugged her tight. “Do you want to get an abortion?” His heart sank as he waited for her answer. “I’ll support you, but I know we can make this work, Alicia.” He decided that he would have them out of the apartment by the end of the month, no matter what he had to do.
  She shook her head. “I want our baby, but…”
  “There’s no buts, baby,” he whispered in her ear. “I promise you will have everything you dreamt of.”
  Her hands circled around his waist. “We can do this…”
  Perry chuckled and leaned back, and then cupped her face, wiping her tears away. “Yes, mami, we can do this. We’re going to be parents!” He would never turn his back on his baby, like his parents had. “Maybe we should get married?”
  “No.” Alicia placed her hands over his. “We’re not ready. I don’t want to marry you because I’m pregnant.”
  “I understand.” Perry felt disappointed but got where she was coming from. “I promise to always be here for you…”
  Her lips curled up into a smile. “I love you, papi…I will always be by your side…”
  Present day
  Marco watched him. “I remember Milan coming back home when Alicia gave birth to Mia. You’d moved into a two-bedroom apartment in her mom’s neighborhood right before Mia was born. How did you pull that off?”
  Perry glanced at his friend and chuckled. “You ask a lot of questions.”
  “That’s why we’re here, to talk it out, right?”
  “I picked up a few fights here and there, across town.” Perry cracked his neck. Being in the ring had been a safe haven for him. It started out as something he didn’t want to do because his aunt said he had to, and through the years, it became his escape. Not exactly a good therapeutic practice, but it worked for him.
  “And Alicia didn’t notice?”
  “She was a little too busy being pregnant, working, and going to school.” Perry answered. “I came home bruised up from time to time. I would be sore, but I played it off. I told her a few white lies here and there about it happening at work. I’m sure she didn’t believe me, but she never questioned me. I stopped fighting altogether after she had the baby. I was getting too old for that shit.” He laughed.
  “Why didn’t you guys get married?”
  “The time wasn’t right.”
Perry started playing with his fingers.
  “By this point you were together five years, with a baby,” Marco intoned, staring at him. “Alicia never mentioned marriage?”
  “I asked her.” Perry didn’t want to talk about that subject. “She always said we didn’t need a piece of paper to love each other.” Alicia was the only woman he ever wanted to be married to. And after eight years together, when he’d finally been about to propose, with a ring and everything, all hell broke loose.
  “Regardless, you two were very happy.”
  “We were until she decided to take that fucking job away from home.” Perry combed his fingers through his hair. “That was our downfall: we failed to communicate how we felt to each other. We let our anger get the best of us and we talked too soon instead of thinking beforehand. I was moving up in the company I worked for… damn, I was making good money to provide for the both of us and our baby, like my father neglected to do, and she accepts a job at McDonald’s corporate office, fucking miles away.” Perry couldn’t help but chuckle. “And she still works at that place.”
  “There’s a difference. She’s the boss now.” Marco crossed his legs. “Going back to when she accepted that job miles away…couldn’t you guys work it out?” Marco asked.
  “We both made stupid decisions,” Perry said. “I called her selfish, that she was only thinking of herself when she made the decision to leave me, and she said she was doing it for us. At the end of the night, my things were thrown out on the front lawn of the apartment complex. She didn’t think twice as she threw me out and told me we were over. I picked up my shit and drove over to Miko’s house.”
  “You didn’t fight for her?”
  “No, I didn’t, not at that moment, but then later I did. I was angry with her. She’d promised to always be by my side, and when it wasn’t convenient for her anymore, she just up and left me.”
  “Like your parents?”
  Perry didn’t answer. “Instead, Lorie was in my ear every day, telling me that Alicia made a mistake leaving me. She boosted my bruised ego, making me feel better as a man. I didn’t see it, but she was playing on my emotions. A few months after Alicia left with Mia, I went out with the guys at work. They left and Lorie popped up out of nowhere, and we drank the night away. She started putting things in my head about Alicia.”
