“Let’s go see your new brothers, Daddy!” Audrey squealed, bouncing in the back seat as if they were starting a grand adventure. Her excitement broke the poignant and solemn moment, and they all smiled.
“Alright, pumpkin. Here we go. But just remember – they’re all a little weird – except for me, of course. And I’m by far the most powerful one, okay?” he teased.
“Oh, I know, Daddy! I already checked out all of their colors!”
He looked at her, a little startled. “Okaaay. Um…is there anything else you can do that I don’t know about, honey?”
Audrey looked down, an innocent smile on her face. She didn’t answer and Aiden decided to leave it for now. They had all had a stressful day and he was anxious to get them to his father’s place where they could settle into their new home – at least temporarily.
He really had no idea what was going to happen next in this war with Oculus, but he knew that they would never be free unless they dealt with this threat. His brothers either. And apparently, they all had women that they were trying to build futures with too.
And thinking about Audrey now, he had a feeling that all of his brothers’ kids would be even be even more powerful than they were…if Audrey was any indication. He rolled his eyes heavenward, Damn, what were they going to do with a bunch of superpowered little brats running around, making all their lives…interesting. He had a feeling that him and his brothers were going to get pretty close in the future – even if just for mutual support regarding their children. Now that Oculus knew about Audrey, they’d likely double their efforts to get at any children the Conway boys had.
At least they were together again. It felt kind of good to have a family that was united – one that was working together to keep everyone safe - instead of the opposite. They would protect their kids, and make sure they grew up knowing how to defend themselves, and how to handle their powers - whatever they turned out to be.
Aiden smiled inside, enjoying the thought of that future immensely.
