“What did you make recently?” Heather asked, and then added on a nastier note, “I certainly don’t want that burnt shit you served me last time.”

Evie rolled her eyes. It killed her to be nice to Heather. “I just made some mocha java… sound good?” she asked nicely.

Heather scrunched up her face in distaste. “No, that doesn’t sound good.”

“Okay.” Evie bit back a sigh.

“Do you have any hazelnut made?”

Evie turned around and looked. The pot was empty. “No, sorry,” she said, turning back around.

“Good, I’ll take some Hazelnut then,” Heather said, adding a smirk.

“Oh we want some too, we want some too,” the twins said in unison, excitedly.

“Okie dokie, coming right up,” Evie wiped her hands on her apron and walked over to the back wall. The heavy wooden ladder made a loud screeching sound as she dragged it to the opposite end so she could grab the last bag of hazelnut off the top shelf. Grabbing the rung she climbed up the ladder, making a mental note to order some more. She could feel Heather’s eyes boring into her back the entire time. She teetered at the top, her hand on the bag.

“Oh, you know what, is there any iced tea made?” Heather called from below.

Evie held onto the ladder and looked over at the machine—dry as a bone. Shit. “Nah, sorry, I haven’t had a chance to make any more yet.”

  “I’ll take that instead.”

“Oh, us too, us too,” Addison and Brianna Kincaid both added.

Good lord. Evie felt like she was in a cave with all the echoing going on. Just because they were twins didn’t mean they had to say everything twice, in plural. “Got it,” she said and grabbed the coffee off the shelf and began to climb back down the ladder. She set the bag on the counter and went to start the tea. Once she had that set to brewing, she turned back around. Big surprise, Heather was glaring right at her. Evie chewed on the inside of her cheek to stop from saying anything.

“You know what,” she said, her expression indecisive, tapping the counter. I think I’ll have the hazelnut after all. I am feeling a bit chilled all of a sudden.” Heather rubbed her thin arms for effect.

“How did I know that was coming?” Evie mumbled.

  “What?”

“Sure. Not a problem,” Evie forced out nicely.

“Oh, us too, us too,” Brianna and Addison echoed.

  Evie’s shoulders tensed.

The door opened, the bell trilling once again.

Hanna rushed in, a blur of bright blue hair and dark purple glossed lips, her hair pulled in a top knot. Her t-shirt was knotted in the back, hugging her boobs, making Mulder all stretched out.

Evie’s shoulders relaxed a bit. At least she wasn’t wearing her antennas.

“Sorry I’m late, Evie. Aaron and I got a little carried away in the car and we lost track of time.” She smiled wickedly, rushing past, raising her brows, and making her Crawford stud twinkle above her lip. Hanna grabbed her apron and tied it on.

“Is Scully, I mean Aaron coming?” Evie asked.

“Not now, but he was,” Hanna barked out a loud obnoxious laugh.

  “Oh, gross, Hanna.”

“I know right. You fall for that all the time. You’re so funny Evie. And yes, he is coming in. He’s parking the car,” she said as she shoved her purse under the counter.

Aaron/Scully didn’t actually work for Evie, as in, she didn’t pay him, but he liked to be near Hanna, so he stayed while she worked and helped out if it got too busy for her to handle. He was a great guy really and totally into Hanna.

“Ahem, excuse me,” Heather called out loudly.

Oh, shit! Evie had completely forgotten about Heather. She turned around slowly, dreading the ass kissing she was going to have to do so Heather wouldn’t make a scene.

“Oh my gawd Heather, you look so good!” Hanna rushed out, jumping in front of the counter.

Evie let out a huge sigh… saved once again. She owed Hanna big time.
