Down & Dirty Page 25

by Ashley Johnson

He slips the most beautiful ring I have seen on my hand. It’s a simple one carat diamond on a gold band and I instantly recognize it. This ring belonged to my mother. I thought she was buried wearing this ring.

“Oh my god, how did you get this?” I ask through the tears that are beginning to stream down my cheeks.

“Well when I asked your father for permission to marry you he told me that your mom would have wanted you to have it, so I had it cleaned and nothing else because I knew you would want to keep it in the exact same condition she did,” he grins as he lifts my hand and places a kiss on my ring finger.

“You asked my dad for permission to marry me?”

Nixon has the nerve to look offended at my question.

“Of course I asked your dad’s permission. I’m a gentleman after all,” he tells me and then gives me that panty dropping smirk of his.

“Yeah right,” I mumble under my breath.

Nixon just laughs then picks me up and kisses the life out of me on the finish line.

That’s when I realize my dad was right. This is my once in a lifetime love.

  Acknowledgements

This book was quite a challenge for me because, along with kids in and out of school and hubby traveling, I had to gain a vast knowledge of the motocross world. It is an extreme sport and the men and women that do this for a living, or even for fun, are pure badasses!! Thanks for all the inspiration on this book.

I would like to thank my husband for pushing me to work on my book when I would rather sit around and read someone else’s words and for just being an all around stud muffin. Love you, babe.

My two little monsters who crack me up like nothing else. You are the sun in my sky and my stars at night.

To my wonderful, fantabulous betas- Lisa, Rachael, Jenna, Valentina, Meagan, April, and my mom. You ladies have helped me beyond belief! You gave me fresh perspectives on my story and filled in spots that I missed. You are lovely and I can’t thank you enough.

And last, but certainly not least, thank you… the reader. Thank you for taking a chance on this book written by an unknown house wife with a dirty mind and a few hours to herself each day. I write in hopes that someone will fall in love with the voices in my head as much as I have.

Please feel free to leave feedback. Whether you loved this book or it wasn’t your cup of tea, it helps me as an author to hear what you think.
