Alexander laid on top of Laura’s body and began to kiss her once again. She could feel the weight of his chest pushing on her breasts and his hardness against her thigh. His hand traveled down her trembling body, and he cupped her hips, and then placed his fingers between her thighs. The roughness of his hands made her hips buck and she moaned loudly. He rubbed her gently, yet firmly, and it felt as if her entire body was going to explode.

Both of them were taking heaving breaths, forcing most of their bodies against the other. She then felt his hand move, and suddenly his bulging length was moving into her.

Laura gasped loudly, and Alexander stopped moving. “Are you all right?” he asked quietly.

She nodded, and said with a breathy whisper, “Please, do it.”

He said, “You feel so good,” and pushed himself further into her slowly, as she felt the entire length of him enter her body. The pain that had initially made her gasp was soon replaced by a feeling of delight unlike anything she had experienced before. Each time he moved in and out of her, the feeling increased until she almost couldn’t stand it. With one more thrust of his hips into her, she felt an explosion of passion for him, which shook her entire body. She cried out in ecstasy, as he moaned loudly. He trembled a brief moment, and then collapsed on top of her.

They both lay there gasping for breath. She caressed his back with her fingers, and he rubbed her hips. “You are amazing,” he whispered in her ear.

Laura turned her head toward his and kissed him.

  Epilogue

The heat of the summer was intense. Laura and Emily were walking hand in hand down the dusty road toward the brewery.

“You should hold onto your hat, Emily,” Laura said to her lovingly. “The wind is beginning to pick up. It looks like rain.”

Emily adjusted her hat with her free hand, and then looked up at Laura. “Just because you are my sister-in-law and the Duchess of Farnworth, it doesn’t mean that you can tell me what to do.”

Laura was first shocked, but then she saw the mischievous smile on Emily’s face and laughed. “I would do no such thing, Emily.”

The pair continued to walk toward the brewery, and as they got closer, Laura’s nerves began to get the best of her. She knew she had to tell Alexander and didn’t know if this was the right time or place, but she still wasn’t used to the rules a Duchess was supposed to follow.

So much had changed in her life. She had married the love of her life, Alexander, and together, they had given her parents more land and staff to grow their farm. Alexander had also used his connections and resources to finally solve her brother’s murder. It had been a group of men associated with James Howe, the man who had tried to push Alexander and Bernard out of business.

As they got to front of the brewery, she thought of these changes, and knew that there was another big change on the horizon. She noticed that her hands were shaking slightly, but the time had come to tell him.

Alexander was sitting in his office. He had a smile on his face, as he usually did since marrying Laura, and he couldn’t wait to see her again. Though he had to deal with the loss of his best friend, he gained a beautiful wife, and he was looking with fondness into their future.

  “Your Grace?”

A footman was standing by his open office door. “The Duchess of Farnworth and Lady Emily are here to see you.”

“Splendid!” said Alexander with excitement. “Please send them in.”

The footman walked out and was quickly replaced by Emily and Laura. Alexander greeted his wife and sister, and then said, “What a wonderful surprise to see two beautiful ladies in my office.”

Both Emily and Laura smiled and blushed. “We came to surprise you, Brother!” Emily said. “Though, I don’t know what the surprise is,” she exclaimed with a giggle.

Laura looked down at Emily and beamed. How I love her smile.

“Emily is right,” said Laura. “She doesn’t know about the surprise, but there is a surprise for you.”

Alexander looked at his wife. “What is the surprise, dear? You can’t tell a man that there is a surprise and then make him wait.”

Laura took a deep breath and he could tell that she was nervous. He turned toward Emily and said, “Emily, I just remembered something. Uncle Bernard is in his office right now, and he just told me this morning that he would love to see you. Why don’t we have two surprises today?”

Emily jumped at the chance to see Bernard. It was hard for her to understand what had happened with Graham, but Bernard had stepped into the main-uncle role with pride.

Now, with Emily out of the room, he would be able to speak with his wife in private. “What is it, my love?” he asked, taking her shaking hands into his own.

Laura looked at him with a coy smile and swallowed hard. “My dear husband, I wanted to be sure before I told you, so I spoke with Mrs. Cooke this morning. She has confirmed my suspicions. You are going to be a father.”

Alexander gasped in shock, and then the shock turned into excitement. He gently placed his hands on his wife’s midsection and leaned in to kiss her stomach. He stood, looked at his loving wife, and said “You have made me the happiest man in the world, and I vow to give you and our child an unbelievably amazing life.”

He then leaned in to pull her into his arms, and kissed her gently, and looked in her eyes, imagining their future life together with excitement.
