They had shared their entire histories with each other. His heart panged, but it wasn’t north or any other direction like hers. It panged in front of him. It panged to her. He saw her as a friend, a companion. It was strange to him at first because they had only met, physically, a day before, but he felt as if they had been side-by-side their entire lives.

He covered her finger with his own and danced along the surface of the water with her. He began to hum as well, only lagging behind her tune by a second to match her song. He didn't have an issue adding music to his voice since his whole language was melodic. With his other hand, he caressed up and down her arm in a slow but tender rhythm.

Goosebumps formed in the wake of his strong, but gentle hand. Jennifer’s heart raced and her legs trembled. Her friend, her companion had saved her life, not once but twice. She knew every facet of him, and he knew her. She wanted to know more of him. She wanted to get to know his body, and she wanted him to get to know hers. She briefly stopped humming.

"You know me from my memories, but I want you to know more," she said before humming again. He thought he understood, but he confirmed his suspicions when she spun around toward him. She knelt in front of him now, her knees digging into the mud.

Her shirt, drenched in the healing water of the pool, clung to her body. He looked down to where the infection had been, and saw that the only remnant of the wound was a scar and the hole in her shirt. He reached for it, to touch the former wound. Before he could feel it, she intercepted his hand and locked her fingers between his. He brought his hand to her face and brushed against it. She brought his hand to her lips and tenderly kissed it.

With his free hand, he brushed the hair blocking her face. They smiled at each other. This is what they wanted, they were like two lovers who had been separated their whole lives but finally reunited. At this moment, there was no war. There was no world outside of this cave. Only they existed in this perfect moment of time.

He started to shift to the man from Charlie team. She would want to be with a human. He understood, of course, but he couldn’t help but feel a sort of sadness. He would do what he needed for her. Before he could advance in the transformation her face hardened.

"No, I want the real you." She said.

He stopped and quickly returned to his true form.

"Perfect." Her smile beamed at him.

He felt relieved that she wanted the true him. He plunged his hand into the water and dug deep into the soil. She tilted her head confused at first. He removed a handful of yellow and purple glittering clay that overflowed his hand. He unwove his other hand from hers and dipped his finger into the clay. With just a little bit of it on his finger, he tapped her nose, leaving a soft color on her fair skin.

She opened her mouth in gleeful shock at the playful gesture. She dipped her finger in the clay and returned the favor. With another finger full of clay, he drew a pattern over his chest. He nodded to her. She knew what he meant. She removed a little lump of clay from his hand and drew along his firm chest. She started with shapes at first but then moved on to ornate patterns along his body. His torso wasn't the only canvas. He encouraged her to draw on his arms and even a bit more on his head. After she had drawn on his upper body, he guided her hand to an excursion of his upper thighs. After she finished, she dipped her hands into the water to clean her hands.

She slid her shirt over her head and cast it to, exposing her bare torso to him. She opened herself up to him. He dipped his finger in the clay and prepared himself. He started at the base of her neck. He drew a straight line down the center of her chest. He continued down past her stomach to her waist. He dabbed his finger back into the clay and drew upon her body again. He drew ornate patterns along her chest, emphasizing her breasts. He then moved along to explore every part of her torso. She failed to stifle a moan as he was drawing.

Before he could dab his finger in the clay again, to start drawing on her arms, she grabbed his hand. As he opened his mouth to speak, she pressed his hand against her chest. He felt her heart pounding. She guided his hand down slowly down her body. Where he stopped at her waist, she had no qualms about pushing his hand down into her underwear between her thighs. She bit her lip as she moved his fingers for him. She rolled her eyes back as his fingers entered and explored her.

Minutes passed. He removed his hand from her and leaned into her. She felt his warm breath against her face. He leaned forward even more. Only centimeters separated their lips. He tipped her back to have her float, like when he had placed her in the pool for the first time. He planted his lips on hers. She tasted so sweet. She didn't hesitate to return the action. He parted his lips away from her, but her mouth followed his longingly as he pulled away. He moved down and kissed the base of her neck where the drawings started.

She closed her eyes. She felt his tongue travel down and around each of her breasts in a swirling pattern that ended on the nipple. As he reached each nipple, his tongue swirled, and he devoted more attention to them. In his own rhythm, he guided his tongue down her sternum and down to her stomach. He started to kiss her again as he passed the stomach down the waist. She enjoyed the weight of his tongue coursing along her body. He gently tugged and pulled her underwear down her legs. Once he finished removing them, he threw them backwards, he thought towards where her suit was, but he didn't care where they landed. He kissed her pelvic bone over and over. He looked at her for approval to continue.

She opened her legs, exposing herself to him. He wolfishly accepted and pressed his mouth into her. She felt his tongue nudge, poke, and swirl in mind shattering pattern. She moaned loudly, echoing through the chamber as the minutes passed. Her legs tightened in approval around his head along with her hips bucking at the pleasure. She removed his head and corrected her position. She tackled him on his back and threw her arms around him. She deeply kissed him repeatedly. When she did part her lips, she looked at him longingly.

"How do we-" Before she could finish her sentence, she felt his member poke against her. She didn't even hear it form from his body. She straddled over him and pressed her weight against him. She grasped it in her hands and guided it in, as he penetrated deep inside her. She rotated her hips up and down. She brought herself too high, and it accidentally slipped out. She chuckled at him as she helped guide it back in again. Once it was safe and – mostly – secure. She bounced up and down. She stared intensely into his eyes as she bounced. They both moaned in sync as she continued to work. He caressed his hands up and down her back. She gasped as his hands firmly grasped her rear. She bounced up and down even faster as his hands drove her wild.

He stopped her briefly. With him still inside her, he lurched forward onto his knees and with his grasp still firmly holding her, he stood. She wrapped her legs around his back as he pushed her against one of the many pillars of the cave room. Whether it was sweat or the water itself, the light of the water glistened off of them both. She dug her fingers into his back as he thrust back and forth. Her mind raced with all the exotic thoughts of what he could do to her.

Each thrust deep inside her made her gasp audibly and let loose a shattering moan. Each moan and pleasured cry threw him more in an animalistic rave, making him thrust harder and hold her tight to him. He wanted to mold their bodies together. He grunted and groaned as he shut his eyes. She moved her hips along with him. He leaned his face toward her again and pressed his lips against hers. Her arms released from his back and crawled up the pillar as he continued to thrust into her. He parted their lips. A strand of saliva bridged the gap between their mouths.

He grabbed her away from the pillar, and waded through the water to the opposite side. He pushed her against another pillar and continued to ravish her. She didn't know how long he could go, but she felt herself reaching her limit. His thrusts quickened as a loud moan burst from him. He wouldn't last long either. She felt herself reach peak to ecstasy and wrapped her arms around him tightly as her body quivered.

  "Tulari!" She screamed loudly
. Even though she felt body tightening as she passed her limit, he continued to thrust for another few moments.

With the final thrust, he yelled, fully pressing her body into his. She felt a burst of heat erupt inside her and felt some whatever had erupted inside of her flow out of her body into the water below. They both breathed heavily as they calmed down. Their lips met again in sweet ecstasy. He cradled her against his strong body as he turned and pressed his back against the pillar.

As he slid down, lowering them both into the pool, they could only smile at each other. She pressed her head and one of her hands against his heaving chest as he let out his exhausted breaths.

The future could wait. As a tiny blip in the vast history of the universe, sitting in that small cave chamber together, no matter how fleeting the moment, they were happy.

  Epilogue

The twin suns shone upon the golden fields where Tulari's father had passed. Tulari set the last log onto the funeral pyre he had constructed out of trees from the jungle. His father would have wanted it that way. He stared at his father's corpse on the grand construction of logs. Tulari had wrapped his father's body in the giant leaves of the jungle with his walking stick to his side for lack of better materials.

Tulari held four unlit torches in his hands, two in each. He would never have imagined he would have be the one to do this, and not alone. But in truth, he wasn't alone. He had Jennifer – a human – now. Though it was the hand of a human that slew his father, he didn't resent her whole species for that. Through her, he knew that there were good humans out there. They just needed to see. They needed to know they didn't have to fight the Nulani. He approached the pile of wood. He set the torches down above his father's head, one on each of his sides where the wrist met the arm, and one at his feet.

He walked back to Jennifer. She still wore her tarnished suit. She would have to wait until they made it to Tulari's city and, hopefully, there she could get new clothes made. Despite his being the murderer who had started both of their journeys, they buried Darian in the jungle. They stood in silence for many minutes, letting the delicate breeze brush against them.

“One torch for each of the children to light,” Tulari finally said with sorrow in his voice. “One torch for the directions of the wind on which his ashes will spread and become one with the land.” He felt a lump grow in his throat. Tears welled in the corners of his eyes.

“These torches,” his voice cracked. “These torches will act as a beacon of light for the darkness ahead. This beacon will be a symbol; a symbol of hope.” He knelt down toward the log pile. She placed a charred dog tag labeled, “Theodore Raynor” on the pile next to the walking stick before she knelt down with him.

“Will you follow me down this path, even though it means many of your humans might die?” he asked somberly.

“Many don’t know the truth and nobility of your people. I will make them see,” she said. She knelt down beside him, weaving her hand into his. “We will make them see. I will follow you wherever you go." She smiled at him.

“A new future will come to pass. We stand on this plain as friends, as my father wished, but now our mission is for both of our species to walk this world the same way. We will stand together.” He turned his face toward her.

She smiled as she leaned in and kissed him.

  Chapter One – The Taken

Baston put his clothes in his locker and straightened his uniform. He hoped the night would go by quickly and that he would be able to get home in time for a nap. He was going to have the day off, and all he could think about was sleeping. He’d worked for ten straight nights, and the last few had been busier than usual. He walked outside and into the transport center. When the ships came in, he opened a door for them to load up on the dock. He always wondered what would happen if the door that kept the pressure maintained broke and he was sucked out into space. He didn’t want to be drawn out into space, but for some reason, he always thought about these things.

The cover on the transport hangar was glass, so it allowed him to look up and see the stars while he worked. It was one of the only perks of the job. They certainly didn’t provide that many benefits, and the commute alone took much time out of his day.

The sound of moon crickets was the only noise out in the middle of the night. Those who were lucky enough to work at that ungodly time were the only ones who got the pleasure of hearing them. Baston stood outside on the loading dock and looked up at the stars. One day, he hoped to find a job where all he would do was fly through the sky. As a youth, he’d enjoyed taking the controls of his dad’s ship when his mother wasn’t watching them closely, and imagining he was a great space captain. His father had always encouraged his dreams. His mother had always worried.

The two moons of Sarta were almost in line with one another. It made the one in front look three-dimensional. The small loading dock only gave him enough room to stand next to the ships when they came in. Only one man could fit for the initial unloading. Then, once the pods were dragged onto the main loading area, the rest could help. The unloading process of the cargo was often unpredictable, so it was procedure to have lots of men ready.

“Incoming, Baston.” His best friend and co-worker, Sca, ran up to him, pointing at the ship. Sca was the ladies’ man between the two of them. He had a large scar on his cheek from a bar fight, that women fell in love with. He was also half Lingonian, and his race had a reputation for knowing how to handle a woman’s pleasure. Any time they went somewhere, he accidently-on-purpose let his heritage slip. It was a convenient habit and had the women eating out of his hands.

The two of them worked for a loading company that dealt mostly with human cargo. Titon Universal brought girls in by the shiploads to work for them. Sometimes they came willingly, sometimes they were sold by their families. The willing ones were mostly gold diggers hoping to strike it rich by seducing their masters. From what he’d seen walking around downtown Menopoly, the town he lived in on Sarta, it worked for them more often than not.

All of the girls came from Earth because they had a trade embargo with Sarta. It was one of five. Earth had trade deals with their planet because their own had become overpopulated. In order to preserve their planet, they’d struck a deal. Sarta was rumored throughout the galaxy to be the planet you wanted to work for if you had to go into servitude, because they treated the servants the best. Other planets didn’t have these kind of trade deals. You wouldn’t catch a Lingonian woman, for example, working for anyone but herself.

“I see them,” Baston replied, tearing his eyes away from the moon to look at the small cargo ship pulling a very large transport pod. There would be about twenty women inside with whatever they were allowed to bring. He braided his long hair away from his face. In some cases, the women in transport fought during offloading. When they did, they weren’t above pulling hair. It hurt like hell and he wasn’t about to give them the upper hand. He tugged at it to make sure it was secure.

Baston directed the ship in as it backed the cargo pod up onto the loading dock. He went around to the driver to give him a ticket for the transport.

“Got a couple feisty ones in this load,” the driver said with a large grin. He was missing one of his front teeth, which made him look a bit silly.

“We’ll keep that in mind,” Baston replied with a curt nod.

The way the system worked, they inspected the cargo and the companies were paid later when they sent in their tickets. Occasionally, he had to argue with someone new to it all, but most of the time, the transporters were understanding. Baston tore off the ticket and took some information from the driver.

Once he was done, he unhitched the pod and let the driver take off before moving it. Titon Universal owned the pods the transporters used. It made it easy for the transporters to get a
new pod from one of their locations to bring the next round of cargo. Pulling the pod back slowly on the conveyor belt meant to help him, he turned it around so the men could unload.

He heard Sca opening the heavy metal door of the pod to look inside. He saw another ship approaching in the distance and made a mental note to check the log once this one was complete. They shouldn’t have another cargo ship in for at least a few more hours. He wondered if they were early.

“Where are all the men?” Baston asked, looking for the rest of the workers.

  “Lunch break?” Sca said.

“It’s 1 AM, Sca,” Baston answered.

“Dinner break, then. I’ll grab, you scan,” Sca said with an eyebrow wiggle. He was always willing to do the dirty work, meaning grab up the women so they could be checked in.

Baston nodded and the two headed into the pod. Thin metal walls separated the women. Sca walked into the first little room and pulled the woman from the ground. She was a small thing with blonde hair woven into braids. She shrieked and cowered away. She looked like a terrified puppy as he walked up to her and directed her face toward his.

“I’m not going to hurt you.” He grabbed her arm and took the scanner from his back pocket scanning her bracelet. She refused to meet his gaze, her body still trembling like a leaf.

Sca sat the girl back down and they moved on to the next one. Most of the women from Earth feared him because of his glowing skin. He glowed like a firefly at all times. It was because he was part Lingonian, his mother being from Lingo and years of interspecies breeding between the aliens from Lingo and people from Earth. Women from Earth had only seen people from their own planet, and they most certainly did not glow.
